I had to have a simple part replaced in my shower handle. The technician broke the cold water valve in the process, and then had to replace the entire shower stem system, running over $1000. One of the worst experiences I’ve had with zero accountability. I will never use this company again.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

I found out after shopping around they “ overcharged” you for almost everything. I decided to cancel the service and requested my refund . I was told the refund was processed on the 02/07, and I waited 10 business , I called them almost everyday to notify them I still didn’t receive it. This usually takes 2-3 business for the money to return back to the card accounting to the bank. They kept saying someone from the Accounting Department will call me back, and guest what?No one ever called back. I had to drive to their corporate office and requested the refund in person. They processed the refund on 02/20 (on that same day ), I was basically lied all this time that the refund has been processed on 02/07. I met with their accountant who was very arrogant and had no humility, and couldn’t even apologize for all these lies.
I also met with their Operations Manager who said
He will offer me a discount to apologize for the long wait , I was like okay !how much do you charge for duck cleaning ?he said about $400 and will call me in hour to schedule an appointment. Guest what ?he never called. A day after I received a call from the help desk, she wanted to set up an appointment for ducks cleaning, and said the Manager offered me a $100 discounts .I asked her how much was the duck cleaning minus the discounts: she said the duck cleaning is $529, and With the discount you will pay $429. Your manager told me that service costs $400, and how comes it’s now $529 ??I told her to tell her manager I don’t need that , they really think I am that stupid.
This company thinks about Money, Money , and Money only . Not a customer oriented business!!!

The Service Technician was very informative of the problems and repairs needed, and estimated the cost of repairs to fix the leaks for approval. He was very professional and did a fantastic job. I am grateful for his time an excellent service. Thank you! Debra Grimm

I had the absolute pleasure of having Victor come to my home to save my day. Victor was knowledgeable and confident about fixing the leak in my house. He was very upfront about what he would have to do to find the issue and about what the cost would be. Victor’s kindness softened the blow of the bad news he had to give and his obvious expertise reassured me that the problem would be solved. I also felt the cost was very fair for the work done and was very clearly the standard charges as the invoice process was completed with ye ole handy dandy iPad. He made sure as little possible collateral damage was done and was tidy the whole way through. He had to cut into two walls to find the issue and it didn’t look like anything happened, besides the holes! I also appreciate how Victor gave me great information on why the problem arose and what to do to prevent further issues. All in all, will be contacting Michael and Son for any future plumbing services that may arise and feel assured that I will get to work with an excellent professional, thanks to Victor.

I requested an appointment for yesterday. They were running late and the gentleman called me very kindly and apologize for them running late. I was fine with that no problem. My problem is when I talk to the lady to make the appointment I told her I needed to have someone check my kitchen ceiling light To make sure it was not an electrical problem with my light fixture. All of the bulbs had been replaced but the light went out completely anyway. 7 weeks ago my building had a large fire. Last year we had a flood from a broken pipe. One of the things that got wet were my walls. I just wanted more assurance the breaker Box was fine as it is only 8 years old. He told me it would be another $30 charge. I opted out and decided to use one of the contractors we have here. He told me that the light fixture was bad. I asked him what would it be to replace a 4 light fluorescent 4' fixture in my kitchen. He proceeded to tell me $430. All I could think of is, I was born, but I wasn't born yesterday. AppalIing! I have lost all respect for their business. Never again. By the way, this was supposed to be a senior rate. I'm 64. Talk about ripping people off. Disgusting. You really need to pay attention to this review as I have had over 25000 people look and respond helpful for my reviews. Shame on you Michael & Sons! I understand everyone has to make a buck. But to blatantly rip me off?

We called Michael & Sons for a kitchen sink issue and got a next-day appointment booked. Our service provider, Jeremiah, was very professional and friendly. He was able to diagnose and fix a major clog without much mess at all. Very happy our sink and disposal are back in working order. Thank you!

My only hope is that Michael's sons don't grow up to see how corrupt their father has become...

Michael & Sons immediately came into my home trying to upsell a larger heating unit before even diagnosing the problem. Then they proceeded to change the service from a maintenance to a diagnostic fee making the service more than agreed upon within minutes of showing up. Their service did not solve the problem. I had to schedule with another company weeks later to resolve the real issue. The other company took time to ensure everything was functioning properly before leaving the property and helped me to realize how much Michael & Sons hosed me during their visit. Would not recommend this company for heating issues unless you want to spend $$$$ unnecessarily.

The Plumber that came out was great. Knew his stuff. Was personable and did a quality job. However, I should have shopped around before agreeing to have them do the repairs. For a 3” drain repair, it cost $2200.00. The materials used in this would be around $60.00 with the standard markups, material should have been no more than $150.00. This means that I pad roughly $500.00 an hour for the work to be completed. I will not be using Michael and Sons again solely for the fact that the prices are outrageous. I know they are saying that you pay for the experience, but that is just theft in my book. I mean $350.00 to set a toilet when it is part of the job?

They cost a bit more than other electrician and plumbing services but you get what you pay for... mostly. I have my work warrantied and there are no hastles if they have to come out twice to re-do a repair if needed.

That said, the knowlege level of their electrical techs seems to vary greatly.

One tech came out to diagnose a dead circuit and recommended that I replace all of the outlets (four) with GFI ones (the type with a built in breaker). Two were outdoors and two were bathrooms so it sort of made sense to me and I know how to install outlets. Well, that's $260 for the diagnosis. Time to go to Lowes and buy some outlets.

But after I replaced the outlets the circuit was still dead. I couldn't even get the outlets to reset. So I called them to report the issue as still unresolved and they sent a different tech out the following morning.

The second tech said you only ever need one GFI outlet per circuit and the rest should be normal. Multiple GFI outlets is redundant idiocy. The master outlet from which the other three obtain their power is the only one that needs a GFI. It protects the whole circuit. Typically this is in the master bathroom, where an overload from attached appliances combined with high moisture create a number of ways for a ground fault to occur.

I wish I had known this. It would have saved me money since 4 GFI outlets costs $80 where regular outlets are about $3 each. I should have spent $29 instead of $80 at Lowes.

So now I have a circuit that is well protected to the point of overkill, making correcting a popped breaker a tricky ordeal should it happen.

Turns out that I hadn't screwed in one of the terminals tight enough on one of the outlets I installed. That kept the other ones from not working too. He turned the screwdriver one and a half turns. Problem fixed. Another $200-ish bill.

So the initial diagnosis of a bad GFI was correct. The advice to replace ALL of the outlets with GFI ones was simply wrong.

I then screwed up the install of one of the outlets. This required a second diagnostic. The fix was easy, but it still cost me $200. It did take the second guy some time to find the one screw I didn't tighten well.

So I do get the reason and price of the second diagnostic.

But in truth, the problem would have cost $20 in parts since only ONE outlet was actually bad. I paid for one diagnostic to figure that out and then another to locate what I didn't quite tighten.

The issue is that the loose terminal was in a bathroom that was NOT the bad outlet from the first diagnostic. The only reason I had to pay for another diagnostic was because I did work I didn't have to do under the poor advice of the first tech.

If by luck I had got the second tech initially, he would have advised me to replace the one bad outlet and I wouldn't have caused the second issue.

The lesson is that with this company you may get a highly competent cost saving tech, or you may get a tech that gives you bad advice even if they correctly diagnose the problem. This could be the difference of $280 versus $540 (what I paid).

Bad advice almost always costs more money.

By the way, add $600 to the outcome if you want to see what I would have paid to have THEM replace four outlets on top of the diagnostic. That's $1140 instead of $400 (if I had them replace the one bad outlet)...

And it isn't that they were trying to scam me. Some of their techs are just not that sharp.

By the way, they advertise a $60 diagnostic. It's actually $260 if they physically touch your house in any way. But that's pretty common for this industry. $60 gets you someone to talk to about the problem.

Their AC and plumbing techs seem to bemore consistently competent than their electrical techs. I've had zero issues using Michael and Sons for that stuff. They did great work and were quite professional.
