On March 1, 2023 I had no hot water. My plumber came over to check the hot water heater and found I had no propane. I have never run out of propane in the past. When I called, I was told by the delivery manager they topped off my tanks with a minimal amount of gas. Then, just a few weeks later I lost 200 gallons of gas. The propane manager was a real jerk and kept yelling at me that I must have used the gas. I finally spoke to the location manager who admitted the valve must not have been closed tight and the gas leaked out. They came out the same day and filled the tanks and I had to pay for 195 gallons of gas. There was no offer to help me pay for the gas since it wasn't my fault or any offer to give me a credit on my account. I had to pay for two full tanks of gas that were lost due to their error. To this point, I hadn't had any problem with them and am not happy with the way I was treated by the propane manager. I felt horrible and so unappreciated as a customer. I have stayed with them and hope this will not happen again. If it does, I will definitely be changing companies. The customer service was horrible and degrading!

If you are on auto delivery, they are like the tooth fairy, your tank is full and you have a receipt on your door. That’s the only way you know they have been there. Unlike other companies, you have to beg them to get them to fill it.

Edit May 3, 2023: Do NOT believe the response from Petro to my review. They have never reached out to me and nothing has happened to address my issues. It’s inconceivable they would respond with such dishonesty.

Hired Petro in August 2020 to replace my existing HVAC system. When I signed the contract, I didn’t realize they used subcontractors instead of their own installers. The subcontractor who did my installation did a very poor initial installation, and constantly complained while he was on the job site about how little he was getting paid for the job. He proceeded to cut several corners, up to, and including wiring my unit incorrectly from the outset. It took three separate trips for Petro service technicians to figure out my problem over the next six months. Fast forward to this winter and my TWO YEAR OLD heat pump was cycling on and off nonstop. Hired another service company to come out and troubleshoot the system, and it had already lost significant amounts of Freon, causing the unit to run incessantly. After spending $1000 on this recent service call with another company, I would NOT recommend Petro for any work in the future. A two year old system shouldn’t continue to cause problems and cost me money. FYI, my old system was 19 years old and never had a single problem. I decided to replace that system to be proactive and possibly save some energy costs. I regret my decision to use Petro.

I have been a Petro customer for over 20 years. When my 40+ year old oil furnace could no longer be fixed, I knew it needed to be replaced. I called Petro and was assigned Mark Londer. He was very nice and gave me a reasonable estimate with discounts for being a loyal customer. I liked Mark because he was available at all times even during the weekend for any questions. The guys who installed it had a good attitude, were professional and able to do it all in one day. I have not had any problems with the new furnace. Thanks for the great service Petro and Mark.

I spoke with Donn Lynas and he was able to get me set up with auto delivery service and a system service plan for my home. I was able to lock in a low price for a full year. Donn even gave me a follow up phone call to let me know that everything went through since I was in a rush and my oil was on the way! VERY DISAPPOINTED with Petro! - False Sales Pitch

Petro is not an honest oil servicing company, from our bad experience. I'm honestly shocked to see that overall they had 4+ ratings. We engaged in services last year when we moved into our new home. We've never used heating oil to heat up our home so we had several questions about how everything works. We spoke with John who initially seemed honest and competent in his explanation about engaging in a new contract. As first time heating oil users, we were skeptical about services, initially, as we never received any detailed information in writing about how the service worked, besides back and forth questions answered via email.

We later discovered John gave us false information about the contract as they promised we would get a fixed price monthly, then after they filled the tank, they would adjust the monthly amount based on the oil we utilized. However, Petro never followed up with us and we continued to pay the monthly rate for several months until we, all of a sudden, got a bill for over $1,500. We found out we had to pay the bill immediately before we can get another refill.

John NEVER explained this to us initially. Customer service was great up until we had questions about billing and false advertising. We wrote a letter to complain, as directed, but no one from management ever got back to us. Instead, on a daily bases, different customer service representatives called us, not having any previous records of what had already been discussed. VERY DISORGANIZED! This shows they don't keep records of what is discussed during calls. It has been very frustrating explaining the same issue over and over again.

I will commend one customer service rep who was finally able to clarify how everything works. He admitted various customers complaining that they were unaware regarding the oil servicing "end of year" bill at the end of the season. If we were informed of this in the beginning, we would've been able to make an informed decision before signing into a contract as Petro appears to be way too expensive for heating oil.

I hope this helps someone. We are currently working on paying off our bill and exploring other heating oil providers.

Extremely scammy and salesman like. Got roped into things I did not understand. A constant delivery of oil without my knowledge is expensive. I cant be on a payment plan until my $1100 bill is paid to $0. We were out of oil so decided to use the cheapest company because we were desperate. It was not worth it. I’m cancelling (and incurring a fee since I’m breaking contract) and going to use a local service that will deliver when I need them to.
