My furnace froze on one of the coldest days of the year and my house was 45 degrees. I had called another company but they couldn't fit me in for a week. Smart Choice was able to secure a tech for me to come out that afternoon and even better news, they had a promotional discount to offer. It truly was a godsend

Smart Choice IS a smart choice for your heating and AC service!
Family owned and operated, they are honest, reliable and reasonable. Really nice people and they will not pressure you into a sale.

Heat pump was freezing up. Called them on Sunday night. Phone was answered buy a phone answering service at 8pm. They relayed message and smart choice called me the next morning and set up a time for 9am that morning. That was excellent since we had no heat. They are tracking a small freon leak with dye for next 2 weeks. Very professional service, price is a bit steeper then my liking but I have heat!

Smart Choice was our choosing for HVAC work after we looked at their amazing reviews. We had a new air filtration system and a humidifier installed. We were sent a group of courteous professionals who worked hard and expertly to make our home a more pleasant place to live. We are seniors. The new higher humidity in the house helps to alleviate health problems. Not wanting to sound medical, but when indoor humidity drops below 30% during cold months you are apt to have sinus problems and other irritations. The low humidity effects many aspects people do not realize from your wood floors to your houseplants, even brittle hair, and hair loss. Amazing huh…
High humidity can also have effects, but with this new installation it keeps it at the correct level.
After they installed the humidifier and air filters, we have had zero sinus problems. Zero. That alone made it worth the price. We appreciate their hard work and I would recommend them highly.

Top notch! Through and through! We had a new heat pump installed this week. Very detailed walk through and estimate from Dave. Super clean and professional workmanship from the friendly installers, Nick and Mike.
Would highly recommend Smart Choice! Great Job guys! Thanks again

John did wonderful job! He has been my house to check the furnace when our heat was off. He is very honest and professional to find out the heating problem. He also clearly explained how to chang the filter and turned on all the vents. I’d like to recommend him if somebody’s house need the services.

The company came out to do an annual system service on February 2. This is the first time we’ve used them. Less than 3 weeks later, we’ve had no less than FIVE text and/or email requests for a “review” of their service. Here’s my review: The service was perfunctory. I’d asked about a filter replacement. “We don’t supply those or keep them in stock,” said the tech. So I replaced my own filter. “Has anyone told you that this system operates on a virtually no longer available refrigerant (coolant) R22 and is no longer being manufactured? So, if ever there is a leak, the cost to purchase refrigerant from us could be as high as $500 per pound.” Our system takes 8 pounds. He advised that it would be more cost effective to replace the entire system — both furnace and heat pump. The tech also noted that the fan motor might be showing signs of age (high amp draw) and may need replacement at some point. So, the actual service visit was interesting & informative. In my home management budget, I’ve already built in a complete HVAC replacement to occur somewhere around 2025-27 so I was not particularly surprised. At the end of the visit I opted to purchase the company’s COMFORT CLUB membership and paid the extra amount to receive 2 visit this year — thinking the system might need another inspection sooner than later (so, next fall). WHAT HAPPENED NEXT was utterly ridiculous and only served to rapidly turn me off to this business. Within hours of the service visit, I received a request for a “review”. Soon after, another request. I contacted their office and inquired about the practice. I was told they’d take me off their solicitation list. Over the next two weeks I received three more requests for a “review” — but it was the last one that “broke the camel’s back”. It came, ostensibly, from one of their employees — who, it turns out is a tech / shop assistant. But, the email actually came from a list server. BOTTOM LINE. If I like a vendor, I leave reviews, but only after that vendor has established a good history with me. To have a vendor make so many requests for “reviews” feels GRASPING and DESPERATE and is a complete turn off. If, in a year of service, this vendor had fulfilled their agreement, given excellent service, and remained attentive to the needs of the customer, they’d have gotten a sterling review. But now, their repeated requests have resulted in this rather unhappy review. NOTEWORTHY is that when I received this last “review” request, I contacted their office and asked to speak with business owner Jose Ortiz. I asked the staff member to have him schedule a phone meeting to discuss these excessive requests for “reviews”. His response? Nothing. When I called today to follow up and see why no call had been scheduled I was told by staff that Ortiz makes calls at 8AM and then is out in the field. Apparently he does not make phone calls to customers during the day using his cell phone. Looks like we’ll be shopping for another HVAC company for next year’s maintenance and any equipment replacement thereafter. What a shame. How does this happen? How does a small business allow this kind of nonsense to scuttle its business? I’m providing this review at Smart Choice Heating & Cooling’s REPEATED REQUEST and hope they are happy with it. Be careful what you ask (beg) for. UPDATE 02-24-23 I see the owner has responded to my post. Well, that’s nice, I can’t understand why I couldn’t receive the phone call that I requested. I think a lot of this could’ve been sorted out over the phone instead of playing dueling reviews. I have added another star because of the reply.
