We've had Bend Heating & Sheet Metal techs out a few of times to look at our old heat pump. One tech came twice for two different problems and never actually fixed the problems but did charge a service fee. At least the second tech came for free and fixed it by adding refrigerant which the first tech wouldn't even check because, "Each time you attach gauges, a little leaks out." The second tech agreed that my described symptoms pointed towards low refrigerant.

Unfortunately, weeks later, we discovered that our 10-year-old historically problematic system was still leaking. We decided to replace it since we had so many problems. Steve of the Radiant Heat Division recommended a system that seems like it shall serve us very well. I should note that his written quote was 142% of the original verbal quote that he gave us. Eric, who installed the system, does nice work. However, he is very busy and it took five months from our initial contact to a system that heats after a lot of no-shows.

Since then there were a few problems that had to be worked out. It was really difficult to get Steve to reply to emails over the course of two+ months. One of the problems I ended up fixing myself after several hours of research and consulting an online HVAC forum. Finally, after the third email, Eric came out to make changes and the system seems to work like expected.

I rarely never write reviews however I had a really bad experience with them. They were almost double the cost of Mt. View heating and cooling. I had a brand new Mini-split installed and I just needed a technician to come out vacuum the lines and fill with 3.31lbs of 410a. Mt View quoted me $250 to have it done and after emailing back and fourth because I was invoiced a different amount than what was discussed via emails, they lowered it to $456.

Good
- my system works
- Dinitia, who I had contacted was helpful with the email correspondence
Bad
-far more expensive than the competitors
-the technician billed for an extra hour
-his line set had leaks and had to borrow my own personal hoses from my vacuum pump (I was charged for the time it took him to figure that out "over an hour at $72 an hour")
-took 2 days to complete a job that he said should only take a couple of hours.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I spoke with Cal about my furnace. He scheduled for Monday but didn't show up. When I called a couple of days later he sent someone out and told me they would call me with what they found.

Again, no call.

I called again (a couple of times before I reached Cal) and he explained some issues and said he would have his guy call me with options.

Guess what? Again, no call. When I called the last time, his excuse was,

"Sorry, my guys been hunting."

WTH? Professional?

Huge waste of my time!!!!!!!!

I hired Bend Heating to install Daikin ductless heat pumps with Ecobee WiFi Thermostats in our 4 plex in Bend. Each apartment needed it's own heating/cooling control however they spec'd out and installed a system that does not allow each unit to heat or cool depending on what is being called for. The system either operates with all units heating or all units cooling. We had no idea this was the case until after the installation.

This is a big problem as during the spring and fall when days are warm but nights are cold tenants cannot make their living space comfortable unless we change all the setting from heat to cool or vice versa.

The first problem and probably the biggest is that the system is not designed for our application as it does not provide the desired comfort for each of the 4 apartments independently. Secondly, no one at Bend Heating had any experience with installing, setting up or programming the Ecobee thermostats. I had to do that myself and the technicians who service the system were clueless as to how to access the thermostats and interpret the reports. Thirdly, they took much longer to install the system than what was planned and pulled key personnel off the job to wok on other projects while lesser qualified personnel finished up. When I explained these shortcomings to Scott Zettle, the owner, and asked for the system to be fixed he has simply ignored the situation and 3 years later has not done anything to attempt to correct the problems or suggest a solution.

At the time, they were not qualified to design and install my system with the specified equipment and have done nothing to correct the problems. Maybe they have learned some things and know what they are doing 3 years later but I did not expect to pay for on the job training and be stuck with a system that does not function as it should in our application. For that reason I will not hire them again until this situation is resolved. Thus the 1 star rating.

Update:
Now that they understand and have learned the equipment, their service department did an outstanding job with our last annual maintenance. So 5 stars to the service department.

Our HVAC system failed in our 10 yr old house. Bend Heating tried to revive it to no avail. We decided on the Carrier due to its superb energy efficient heating ratings. Customer Service at Bend Heating was 'out of bounds'!!

The service tech knew exactly what the problem was with our Carrier A/C unit. He had the necessary parts and had our house cooling within minutes. I will always use Bend Heating for all of our HVAC repairs.

I contacted Bend heating a couple weeks ago about getting a heat pump put in our house, today they are installing it.

Great service with professional installation.

Thanks for the new heating system.

Jesse repaired our heat pump, the AC was not working in our recent heat. Diagnosed the trouble and repaired it within 2 days. Cost of $300 compared to $1300 previously quoted to replace what had been diagnosed as a failed compressor. Kept in contact with me along the way. Would use them again. Thank you Jesse
