Strongly recommend you find a different company. This story is from 2019-2020, but I still feel strongly about it.

When we were under contract on a new house, our inspector told us we should have the AC system evaluated and a “manual j” calculation done to see if the HVAC was properly sized. On the advice of our realtor, we engaged Chowning to do this inspection and load calculation. They told us the system was fine. We moved in in October and it was clear immediately that the system wasn’t cooling the whole house so we asked Chowning for the calculation they did and for any advice they had. That’s when they told us that despite us asking specifically for it and providing our home inspector’s notes which said specifically to perform a load calculation, they didn’t actually do a load calculation or any investigation – They just noted whether the unit needed to be cleaned.

Their failure to do the simple load calculation we asked for cost us real opportunity to negotiate about the HVAC or determine whether we needed to continue the home buying search. After they told us they hadn’t actually done the inspection we needed and paid for, I asked them to help us figure out a solution and hopefully share in some of the cost – they never called me back. I called them multiple times, left multiple messages, and never got a response. We had a family medical emergency around that time so I stopped pushing them, but it was clear that they weren’t interested in making things right.

Ultimately, the following summer (2020), we had multiple reputable companies do the inspection and calculation we had hired Chowning to do and all of them came to the same conclusion: Based on the load calculation, we needed a new HVAC system for our upstairs. If Chowning had done the simple calculation when we paid them to do it, we would have known that in time to ask the sellers to help share the cost, which ended up being nearly $11,000.

The bottom line is: Chowning was hired to do a load calculation, didn’t do it, said everything was fine, and then refused to call us back or make it right when it became clear that their failure to do the calculation was meaningful. It cost us $11,000. Find another company.

I don't really do reviews. However, the experience I got from Chowning warrants one. Their assessment tech was on time and in and out within 15 minutes, confidently answering any question I had. When they prepared a quote, there wasn't a bottom line. They gave me three install options with modifications to each option to fit my budget. Their technicians arrived on time and were very professional. The ascetic of the install were absolutely beautiful (I went from non energy efficient to high energy efficient). Their prices, my God Their prices! I did about 5 quotes, for high energy efficient they came in at half the cost of anyone I called out. Their quote for high energy was also cheaper than the cheapest quote I got for "normal efficency". I can't recommend this company enough!

Excellent service!! Highly recommend if you need AC/HVAC assistance. Technician came out and repaired our AC unit within a few minutes. Very thorough and great service.

Chowning Heating and Cooling a professional company that is reliable and reasonable. I highly recommend them, honest company to work with. I recently remodeled my home and they took care of venting my bathroom fans to my exterior instead of my attic space. I highly recommend homeowners of older homes do before running into mold issues from too much moisture in your attic space. They also installed a new gas line and vented my new range hood to the exterior and did an awesome job! I have a maintenance agreement where they maintain my units. If there is ever an issue they are always quick to get you up and running so your never hot in the summer or cold in the winter. Very professional friendly staff. They do their best to accommodate your work schedule when making appointments. Definitely a five star company!

Informed me my A/C unit was no good. So 5 days later still waiting for the new unit quote from them. So i bought a new unit from what easily seems like a much more reliable company . CHOWNING company was a waste of time as far as I'm concerned.

HVAC quit heating with forecast lows predicted to be zero. Called Chowning Heating and Cooling and they worked me in right away. The serviceman Scott was very professional and diagnosed the problem and repaired it in an expeditious manner. He tested it and let it cycle a few times to confirm it was fixed not rushing to get to his next call. I highly recommend using this company.

My furnace bearings seized up and the blower stopped working...this happened on a Friday night when I got home from having my baby daughter 3 days prior...Scott, who was absolutely wonderful, was able to walk me through by phone how to temporarily manually restart the furnace...at midnight as well!! He stayed in contact with me over the weekend until his co-worker, Chuck, was able to make it out on Monday and get it fixed. Chuck drove out of his way to get the last blower in the area to get this fixed for my family and I. I will absolutely use Chowning for all HVAC issues. Scott and Chuck are absolutely awesome...

Found a huge pool of water under our HVAC unit early in the morning, due to sleet storms they were unable to slot us in the same day but prompt service the next. Turns out it wasn't anything to do with the furnace or whole home humidifier, but the water heater. Tech was professional, friendly and knowledgeable and gave us newbie home buyers the information we needed, and the peace of mind that we didn't have an expensive repair on our hands! I have always had good experiences with this company. We bought our house in 2019 and they have been the only company we have used. Prices are reasonable and technicians and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Justin and Damon came out and were very respectful and professional. They answered all the questions I had and helped work with me on how and where I wanted piping and lines ran. I would recommend Chowning to anyone, there motto "Better service at a Better price" has rang true for me so far. The office people were also very helpful with getting me set up. Just had the heating and cooling system installed yesterday so far I have received a 5 star service.
