We are devastated by Mike’s Heating and Cooling and the service we were provided. Mike’s Heating and Cooling left our family of 5 with NO HEAT in the middle of January and a pandemic. We searched around for heating and cooling company’s for service for our boiler, and found great reviews for this company, and a sweet news article on how they gave an elderly man a brand-new furnace during the frigid winter months. We were looking forward to having a family-owned company service our home and were expecting great service.
This is our first winter in the home. We set up an appointment as the boiler heat wasn’t reaching each room. The technician suggested that we put in a cleaner and flush out the system. Cleaner went in, and we were set to be flushed on 1/12/2021. The technician did mention that a gauge on our boiler might need to be replaced. He gave us a quote of max, $800 for the cleaner, flush and protentional replacement of gauge. When it was time for the system to be flushed, out the technician broke the gauge and was unable to fix it. He worked on it for two hours. The technician came from the basement to let us know that we were going to need a new boiler and it was going to cost around $6500. This is shock to us, as we were expecting $800 bill. My husband spoke with the owner of Mike’s Heating and Cooling and was extremely disappointed in the lack of compassion for the predicament that we are now in, due to the technician breaking the gauge. During the conversation, Mike basically told us “tough luck”, we couldn’t foresee this happening. There wasn’t any compromise or any options for us to choose from to reduce this burden we are in. We understand that issues will happen, but we did have a functioning boiler prior to the technician servicing it.
Now, our family of five has a home with no heat, an unfit workplace and school, and not to mention a warm place to sleep. We are devastatingly disappointed in the lack of ownership and compassion that this company has given us, and the predicament we are now in due to their services. By 11am our boiler was broken, and we were left with 3 space heaters to heat our home because of Mike’s Heating and Cooling’s performance.
UPDATE 1/13/21: my husband had to take off work to fix the mistakes that we were left with. My husband, who has no experience with boilers, was able to correct the gauge issue, fill, drain, flush and bleed the system.
I am at a lost for words with this company as a technician with 13 years experience was unable to fix this problem, and leave us in a freezing house, and my husband with 0 years experience was able to identify the root cause of the issue and get the boiler functioning again, better than it did before.
I am now thinking they were trying take take advantage of us to sell a new boiler.
First off, I understand that these guys need to get paid for their service...Was not told up front of the charge either so the shock of the amount is probably the most upsetting part than the service but $90 for someone to come out for 10 minutes and tell me "not a lot I can do" and estimated $500 for a turbo fan that "might not even work". They've come out before and I wasn't charged for that visit so this came as a big surprise.

I have had Mike's do work and replacements at both of my properties. They are often available next day. I have worked with several of them including Mike Jr, and everytime has been great. 5 stars across the board. Always on time, friendly office staff, all top notch. Keep it up, it's how it should be done.
I have been doing business with Mike's heating and cooling for the last 5 years. I had a home where they replaced the AC, and then replaced the furnace, installed a new thermostat, etc. a couple of years later. I found the company helpful, friendly, and priced right. Unfortunately, something has changed recently.
I recently purchased a new home. The heat/Air checked out fine during the inspection. However, after we had been in the home for 100+ days, and now that we are going into winter, we wanted to have Mike's heating and cooling come out and check further. The installer arrived and opened up the heat exchange to find some coils cracked. This heater passed inspection with no leaking carbon monoxide, but he said it could leak at anytime and needed to be fixed. Luckily the heater exchange coils were under a Bryant warranty for 20 years, and it would only cost labor. He said it would cost around 500 bucks because it was a big job that could take 4 or more hours. He couldn't check the air that day, as the outside temperature was too cool. We also asked him to install some bolts back in the hot water heater pipe. We made an appointment for next week, where he would come out, install the heater exchange coils replacement, tighten up the pipe from the hot water heater, and check the AC.
I took the day off for the work. As scheduled he showed up on time, and went right to work, he replaced and showed me the cracked coils, put the bolts in the pipe, and went out to check the AC which was a little low. It was at 26 and should be in the 15-20 range. He took it to 15. He arrived at 9, and was done at 10:45. I was very happy with his service until the bill came. He wrote me a bill for 500 bucks. I thought, wait, you were here for less then 2 hours, and you are charging me 500 bucks. That is over 250 an hour. This is not a standard price for HVAC. I paid the bill, but called later to the office to talk to the owner and register the complaint of the pricing. I talked to Heather in the office who told me the owner was not available, and would be back Thursday, and she would have him call me. If i did not hear anything by Friday, I should call.
Today I called. I believe the owner answered the phone. I proceeded to tell him about my complaint, but he shuffled me to Heather, who didn't answer the phone, the installer did. I told the installer, like I told Heather, my problem wasn't with the service, my problem was with the price. The installer was very brash with me, even said to me i was making him angry. I asked him if he was a co-owner to which he responded no. I asked when the owner would be back in the office, and he said I could call back Tuesday. This is not all that was said obviously, but like I said, my problem wasn't with the work, or the installer, my problem is the price. No HVAC guy should be making over 250 dollars an hour.
This is an unfortunate circumstance, as I would always recommend this company when people that work for me, or with me ask who do I use. Hopefully the owner will call me back, and we can have a customer focused conversation about the price. With what was done, I believe 300 bucks is a fair price for this work. This is only the first review that will be posted for now, until I hear back from the owner. However, if for some reason the owner will not even have a conversation about the price, or contact me, I will proceed to red flag this company to all my friends, family, and co-workers, and will of course post this review on Home Adviser, Angie's list, Facebook, etc. Hell, I may even tweet about it.
I have utilized Mikes for over 7 years now... I use them for all my heating/cooling/electrical matters/issues... Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had a challenging cold air return from a recent remodel, and it was completed with no issues. My furnace, ac, and humidifier are all running flawlessly. The guys were out recently to install a gas line for my dryer and a line out for the outdoor grill... They work as if it were their home, real artists here... It looks beautiful!!
My father's ac wasn't working so we called them to come out on Saturday and understood he was paying extra for having them come out since it was the weekend. Told us that the thermostat wasn't working so he did a bypass so the unit would work until he could replace the circuit board and would call us back on Monday. Since then (July 4th week) we haven't heard back from Mike or the company. My father has called 2-3 times to check on the status and every time they would reply that the technician isn't in and will call us back the next day. Next excuse was we haven't received anything from the tech. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Mike basically started a job he didn't finish but took the money.
Mike's was able to schedule furnace service next morning. Technician was a little later than expected, but was miscommunicated. Diagnosed issue quickly and was able to have service restored quickly. $89 service/diagnostic fee. $327 total service fee - including $150 replacement part (Amazon price).
I have used Mike's both at my home and business (and they installed a furnace at my mothers house). I've always known them to be fair, on time, professional, and quick to schedule emergency appointments. I would always recommend.
Terrible, unethical company. They took about $1400 from my elderly parents for a hot water heater, just like another reviewer wrote. The other reviewer said it should never cost that much money. He is right. My brother got a far more efficient water heater elsewhere for less than half that amount around the same time. The owner is not being honest with his response to the other reviewer. This business took several thousand dollars from my parents for a furnace....without an air conditioner. My brother tried to act on my parents behalf and this company were repugnant towards him. DO NOT TRUST THE HAPPY RESPONSES. BELIEVE THE UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS.
Very quick and professional service. Mike's Heating & Cooling replaced our dead furnace motor within one day of diagnosis. They even gave us electric heaters so the kidos wouldn't freeze at night.
