I’m not one to leave a negative review on Google, but in this case I have to. I had Princeton Air install a Mitsubishi HyperHeat the week before Memorial Day. It’s a ducted, two zone system and cost just under $23k. The salesman (Colin) was awesome and still is, and I appreciate his time. However, this system has caused me nothing but headaches and cost me lots of time. I’ve gone as far as calling the finance company (Wells Fargo) to stop payment to PA, I’ve since cancelled that stop payment.

Since the install was “completed” I’ve had a number of techs come out 11 or 12 times to troubleshoot numerous issues. The night they finished, the system didn’t even turn on. They sent a tech on Saturday (Memorial Day Weekend) who refused to do anything other than hookup his gauges and say the charge looked fine. The second visit, they came out and charged the system. It worked for about an hour after they left, then it threw a code for low/no charge. The third visit they traced the line sets and found one of the bends was flattened, they replaced the line set and the system worked.

Now we come to the next issue that has been ongoing all summer, humidity. My upstairs has had a relative humidity of 60% to 90%, never getting below 60%. This is way too high, besides being uncomfortable it also poses health risks. My ceilings have all gotten wet around the supplies due to the wet air that is coming out and I’ve had to hold off on painting the interior of my home until the system works properly.

After 6 more visits, including the duct work contractor who is extremely knowledgeable, they finally sent out somebody other than just a technician after I bullied them into it. By this time it was the 11th visit. After sitting on the phone with Mitsubishi tech support, they came to realize that the system is only meant to take less than 1 pint per hour of humidity out of the air, right on the spec sheet it shows that my air handler only removes .8 pint per hour. I had mentioned during the sales call that an inline dehumidifier might be needed, but PA said it’s not. Shocker, it’s needed.

Now to today. The duct work installer came back out to add another return and another supply to my office. PA failed to recognize that I have more than one computer plus network equipment in my office and that they generate a lot of heat. It would be great if I could use the AC upstairs, but the power switch was accidentally bumped and now the system won’t turn back on. I’ve been waiting almost two hours for a call back and haven’t heard a thing.

Oh, and two more things. The installer never hooked up the cut off switch for the drain over flow, so if it doesn’t drain properly it’ll just soak my ceilings. The other thing is they never even mentioned adding emergency heating. With a heat pump as a primary source of heat, that should be a no-brainer, especially in the Northeast.

Tl;dr, Princeton Air has really botched my install. I can not recommend them to anybody. Customer service has been excellent, but I have no faith in their technical staff.

Update: one year later and my outdoor unit looks like the leaning tower of Pisa. Great job!

The technician thoroughly diagnosed the problem and explained the cost of repair. He was very understanding when I asked to defer the repair until I was able to determine if my protection plan with the gas company would cover the repairs at lower cost

Professional, straightforward, responsive - I consulted with them for replacement of HVAC/ water heater replacement. Definitely the folks I want to hire! They took the time to educate me rather than sell me something that may not serve my best interest.
