Sunday afternoon I called Cardinal Plumbing because out of the blue my basement started smelling like moldy. For my surprise I got an appointment for Monday at 2pm. On Monday 10/19 Abram Everist arrived in my house prompt at 2pm and I received a text message just a few minutes before he arrived saying that he was on his way. To many a long story short, I will make a list of things he did in one visit.
He tight my house front and back faucet, he Replace the cartridge in a single handle lav faucet 3 emergency shutoff valve bathrooms, but the biggest job was the water heater. We weren’t expecting to replace it but he pointed a few issues on our current one and a smell of gas that got it replaced as well. He cleaned the sun pump were the smell was coming from and after he finished it all the smell was gone. We are very satisfied with his work. Abram is an excellent professional, very clean, friendly and we definitely will recommend him for our friends. Cardinal Plumbing works with excellence and it’s employees proof it. Thank you so much!

I initially called for an estimate on a tankless hot water heater because the location of the hot water heater in my new house limited the size. The technician who performed the estimate told me that the electric tankless heaters are not very efficient, and would be quite expensive due to the electrical work involved. He recommended a larger conventional hot water heater instead. The estimate to remove the current hot water heater, procure, and install a new larger one was just under $3000. Although this was on the higher side of what I expected, I went ahead with the service.

On the day of the service, the team arrived promptly. It was a different technician, but very professional and friendly. Unfortunately, they soon discovered that the hot water heater they had procured would not fit into the space. There were two reasons for this: First, the hot water heater they had was larger in diameter than the one they had discussed installing; second, they had not measured one doorway, which it turned out was too small for both the one they brought, and the one they had discussed to fit through.

The initial response to this wasn't good, but it worked out well. The technician at first indicated that he would have to cut out the door frame for the door in question to fit the new hot water heater. When I asked if they would replace/repair it afterward, he told me that they do not do that, and I would have to hire a carpenter. I got on the phone with the original technician who repeated the same information, so I told him to simply re-install the old hot water heater and cancel my order. He said that I would have to pay for re-installation. I pointed out that this was not appropriate since the reason it couldn't go ahead was that he hadn't performed all the required measurements, but he was adamant. Shortly afterward, I was contacted by his boss who told me that they had identified another hot water heater nearby of the appropriate capacity that would fit, and that if they couldn't get that today, they would re-install the old one at no cost.

The new hot water heater turned out to be slightly too tall for the space, but there was room with a small cut in drywall into a void space under the stairs.

Overall: Marc did an excellent job. He was polite, informative, and helpful. The original tech was great to work with during the estimate, but forgot a crucial measurement and was very defensive about it. The manager, Patrick, was good to work with and made the right call.

I would have been happier if the original estimate had taken all the needed measurements, if the question of which specific hot water heater they were installing hadn't been a moving target, and if they hadn't initially been so eager to pursue "solutions" that would involve significant damage to the area around the hot water heater, which would have been costly to repair. But those issues were resolved, and they showed good persistence in finding a heater that would fit the space and doing a thorough and professional job in the installation.

The final cost was exactly at the estimate. I think that's good, but honestly, I don't know whether the hot water heater they finally did install was more expensive or less expensive than the one they used for making the estimate.

Marc did a great job! He very patiently worked to reseat a Moen single handle shower faucet handle that refused to cooperate. Once he had the faucet fixed he had some concerns about the hot water: checked the heater and circuit breaker but all seemed fine. I appreciated very much the care he took to make sure everything was as it should be. I always use Cardinal Plumbing because their technicians are always experienced, professional and friendly. Not to mention very polite.

Cardinal and our technician, Shawn, were extremely professional and courteous when helping with replacing our old shower with a new one. They walked us through everything that they would need to do and made sure all our questions were answered. It took only two days between us contacting them to coming out to complete our installation. Everything looks great and works perfectly and I cannot recommend them and Shawn enough!
