15 year old unit stopped working. Berkeley came out to my 70 yo mother-in-laws and recommended downsizing her 2.5 ton unit to a 2 ton. She didn't know any better and went with their advice. Since the new unit was installed it has never properly cooled her house. Alan Risher from Berkley refuses to acknowledge there is a problem and accept any blame. Her old unit cooled the house just fine until the day it quit running. I would recommend everyone stay away from this company, as they do not stand behind their work & will not admit they made a mistake and correct the issue. All we want is for them to put the same size unit in that was originally in the house. We have offered to pay the difference between the 2 & 2.5 ton unit, but again we were turned away or ignored.

Wanted to leave a review on the excellent service we received from Berkeley Heating and Air. The installers: Adam Jaco and Donald Winn did an extremely professional job. I am the type of person that does not like repair people to be in my house because I am usually uncomfortable. Adam and Donald did not make me feel uncomfortable at all. They conducted business in a very thorough and professional way. My grandson was here and asked them a million questions concerning the job they were doing - not once did Adam or Donald seem to be bothered by him! They conducted their business under what I feel like are extreme conditions - extreme heat in the attic and extremely hot outdoors. They never complained and conducted their business with very minimal break times. Adam and Donald were extremely hard working! We are definitely customers that will recommend Berkeley Heating and Air to other people because of the wonderful service Adam and Donald provided.

I want to start off saying this is the first time I have ever given a negative review on anything but the level of disgust I have with my recent experience with this company, and especially the call I received today from them, has motivated me to write a review.

I scheduled my yearly AC preventative maintenance check for 17 July 2020 (Friday) with Berkeley Heating and Air. The tech came out ( nice fella) on time and got to work. While in the attic I discussed with him lack of cooling on the second floor, he checked the system and stated two flap motors in my ductwork were not working and had to be replaced as no air was able to enter the upstairs vents. The tech told me he would have to turn in the paperwork to get an exact price and arrange the date of repair. Again, this is Friday.

I called Berkeley Heating and Air on 20 July 2020 (Monday) to inquire about getting this work done. The employee that answered the phone told me the tech had not made in in yet and they did not have the paperwork, they would call me when they did; never got a call. Again, this is Monday.
I called Berkeley Heating and Air on 21 July 2020 (Tuesday). I was told the exact same thing as Monday; never got a call. Again, this is Tuesday. I’m no Einstein, but do you think maybe you could call the tech and get the damn paperwork so you can help your customer? Apparently no one at this company is capable of thinking beyond their role.

I called Berkeley Heating and Air on 22 July 2020 (Wednesday) and was finally told they had the paperwork. The earliest date they had available was 28 July 2020 to do the repair. I told them to go ahead and schedule it. I asked what was the model number of the flap motor, the employee did not immediately have that info but did get back with me later.

After getting off the phone with Berkeley Heating and Air, I called another company to see if I could get this done sooner. I will not name the company but I told them the whole story, gave them the motor number and they stated a tech would be at my house by 9am 23 July 2020 (Thursday). Incredible, they could schedule a tech the very next day for Joe Nobody but Berkeley Heating and Air could not for a ten year customer.

The new company’s tech arrived earlier than expected but I got a text and email advising he was in route (another difference between the two companies). The technician arrived, got straight to the attic. Within moments, the technician came downstairs and stated the two motors were not the problem and, even if they were, would not have worked as they were the wrong type. He told me what the problem was, explained in great detail and advised me he would have to get back to the shop to arrange for the parts and schedule the repair. I got a call back within the hour, told the cost and we scheduled the repair for 27 July 2020 (Monday) as they had to order my parts. I called Berkeley Heating and Air, advised them of their technician’s error and to cancel my appointment and yearly maintenance agreement with them.

The new company’s tech came out 0830 on 27 July 2020 (Monday) and was done with the repair by 0930. He explained everything he did the system was working perfectly. This company did in just a couple of days and did it right, what Berkeley Heating and Air would’ve taken a couple of weeks and gotten it wrong as explained earlier.

I got a call today from Berkeley Heating and Air in regards to them want to see what they did wrong to lose a decade long customer. I told the employee everything above and that over the years there were similar problems with their technicians doing poor work or making things worse. If your asking why I stuck with them for so long, it’s because I had purchased a new unit and warranty from them a decade ago. I also told the employee that I wanted a partial refund as I only used one yearly inspection out of the two I paid for. She said I’ve already used the two and no refund. This is a lie. I will never use this company again and advise that you don’t either. My opinion they are a rip-off.

The level of customer service was extremely poor. Weekend service to service a repair they had very recently made entailed an answering service and one technician who stated on Friday evening he could do nothing until the office opened on Monday and had no access to a manager for advice.

To be fair, Robert Meade stated in a phone call that he is on call 24/7. However, I want to emphatically state I explicitly asked the technician who he would call if he got sick or rolled his truck over the weekend and he said no one. He was on his own all weekend.

When a new technician arrived Monday, there were additional problems diagnosed with additional charges. I questioned the technician about this and asked that he speak with Mr. Meade about the legitimacy of how the original repair was presented and get back with me. He seemed very sincere in his promise to do so, but I never heard a word. Suspicious at this point and after five days, we called another company. The part checked out fine. The unit is fine we saved $1,070 with that phone call.

This may be an isolated incident. My family has use this company many times with satisfaction over the years. However, we strongly suggest second quotes and proceeding with caution, as we were also told we were overcharged for the initial work, as well.

My Mom was very Happy with the work that was provided to replace her whole HVAC unit. The Technicians were very nice and Polite and installed the unit in 1 day which was very helpful due to Very frigid Cold temperatures outside.
