1 of two heating units shut down in the late evening (10 pm ) - we made a call to James River in the am and a technician arrived mid day— assessed the issue and discussed costs and repair fee for our approval —. The tech secured parts within one hour, returned with parts and made installation within 45 min then tested the unit for us and shared again the repair info. To our satisfaction we had heat!! Both units are functioning fine !!! Thank you!!!!

After dealing with poor communication from another AC company, it was refreshing to deal with James River Air. They responded to my request for a quote the same day, had excellent follow up communication the next morning and Tyler provided prompt professional service when I moved forward with the repair.

I called for service and the pleasant scheduler told me the next available technician would call me. Within an hour Mike Jones called to tell me he was on his way. He promptly arrived, introduced himself, donned shoe covers and got to work after attentively listening to me describe the problem. He got the system running, diagnosing the problem as a fan pump bearing that was failing. He said it did not need repair, yet, but may likely fail when the AC begins running. He left me a quote to fix it when needed. Mike had to check a lot of components to come up with the diagnosis. I am glad James River sent out a master technician.

We used JRAC 20 years ago to install HVAC in our last home, so when it came time to replace the HVAC in our current home, we chose them again based on our positive experience. Everything went well until installation day. While they were under the house installing an air handler, an employee accidentally broke the pipe that drains our washing machine. The employees initially tried to say the pipe was loose which was frustrating given that it was clearly broken by force, but ultimately once I spoke to a manager, they took ownership and sent contractors to fix it. When I spoke to the manager about what had happened and the disruption it caused (couldn’t do laundry for a week, a hole was cut in an internal wall to access the pipe, we had to repaint, etc), the manager offered us a credit on our account that we could use for future services or air filters and the like. He said it will be on the account, just call to use it. Some months later I called to order air filters and was told there was no credit on my account. I called and asked to speak to a manager several times. Each time I called I was asked for evidence of the credit which I didn’t have (my fault for trusting the manager I’d worked with) and was told someone would call me back. I never received a call nor was this issue resolved. I gave up - it was not worth the hassle. Integrity is a big deal for me when working with a company, and this was a disappointing experience, and the reason I no longer recommend JRAC to others.

The appointment was for an annual maintenance visit to include changing the special filter we requested when we bought the HVAC system from James River. When we told the technician about some renovation work to start the next day, he explained the potential associated impact to a new filter and suggested we wait to replace it until project end. He cleaned the existing filter so it would get us through the construction and offered help if we needed it, when it came time for replacement.

Pros - they have done great work and have been reliable. I got my entire central air system replaced and received a quality system for a reasonable price.
Cons- on two occasions now the men who have serviced my house have inadvertently displayed sexism. I am a woman who owns a home and handles all maintenance concerns for my home. However, on these two occasions my sons dad happened to be over. The first time was when my entire system was replaced and the worker led my sons dad around the entire house explaining everything and said nothing to me. I was very angry because my sons dad has and will have nothing to do with the system. I paid for it, it is my house, I made the call, I answered the door, and I will be the one using it. So after I realized I wasn’t going to be included in the discussion I asked the worker to explain everything to me and noticed he gave me the cliff note version compared to how long he had been talking to my son’s dad. The second time was just recently when I had the maintenance done. Again I called for the appointment, answered the door, led the worker to the system, but when the worker was finished he directed his comments towards my sons dad until he realized I was looking at him and then explained while looking back and forth at both of us but slightly longer in my sons dad direction. I only point this out so that the company can hopefully provide some sort of training to the staff regarding providing updates on the work to the person who scheduled or paid for the work instead of assuming a man is the one who should receive the update. I asked my sons dad if he noticed the sexism when the worker left and my sons dad finished my sentence before I even said it. So I was not being hyper sensitive.
Overall, regardless of the sexism, I can not deny their work or what they provided and so I would still highly recommend them.

James River Air should be your first choice for HVAC, plumbing & electrical work. Technicians are highly trained, polite, prompt and affable. Absolutely no high pressure sale tactics. Significant savings on all work with an HVAC service contract is a plus. Why call anyone else?
