Sunset installed our HVAC system at the end of 2014. They have been the only company to service our HVAC. Recently our AC stopped working. After a diagnostic visit, we were informed that our compressor was “badly failing” and the best option would be to replace our entire HVAC. Which started at $13,000.
Luckily, we decided to get a second opinion. The compressor wasn’t even the issue and is working fine. After a single day visit, another company was able to fix our AC after a few hours for only $2,000. Huge difference.
Also, Sunset knew we had a Lennox system, and they failed to mention when setting up our diagnostic visit, that they no longer service Lennox products. Had we known this, we would have never set up and paid $129 for a diagnostic visit with Sunset. We feel deceived by a company we have used on more than one occasion.
A few weeks ago, our furnace went out and the team at Sunset was incredible. Rich Valdez, an Install Field Manager, came in on his day off to check what was going on. He was thorough and honest with us about what he could do to try and get this 20+ year old system going and also, the likelihood we are now playing a game of what's next. He knew we just bought the house and were trying to work with our warranty company and he was super invested in trying to help us get this taken care of. He also checked out the ducts while he was here and talked about this being something that might help with efficiency and also overall health & safety as it was clear this had not been done for some time. He got the furnace working, showed me what he did and how to self-check if it went out again based on what he found. The furnace worked for a few days then went out again. In the meantime, we were getting the runaround from our warranty company which made it all more challenging. Rich came back out at no extra charge, tried to find another solution and then we had an honest conversation about what we needed to do versus wanted to do to find the best plan moving forward. He got his team ready to install a new system next day and helped us find a "kick the vending machine" type fix that seemed to work for a few hours at a time to get us through the night. He was very thorough in his plan walk through with my husband and I and gave us a bundling discount with doing the duct work as well. He also had his team install a vent and ducts to heat a room in the basement we converted to my office at no extra charge as a means of helping us a bit in the process of the work and payment. Every person that came was incredibly kind and professional and made sure to take the time to walk us through everything they did and what we needed to know. During the duct cleaning, there was some damage that happened to one of the vents and some drywall which was unseen by the tech on hand due to moving boxes in his way at the time. I emailed Rich and by the next AM he already had someone assigned (who called me that afternoon) to get the repair completed.
Thus far, everyone I have worked with at Sunset has been incredible but I sincerely want to shout out Rich in the process as he has literally been in contact with us every step of the way and has been incredible at making sure the decisions we make our best for us and align with our budget and plan as well as have made sure to update and correct and issues (i.e. sheet rock damage) immediately.
He even took the time when he was here to check the other furnace (interesting house design) and our 2 water heaters to help us talk through the options to moving to a tankless heating system and checked out the 35 year old AC unit and gave me a tutorial on what I can do to clean and maintain until it goes out/what we can do if and when it does.
I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of HVAC work and will be using them for all things heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical moving forward.
Shavon did my intro analysis on-site, and was very knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and patient with all my questions about cleaning, servicing, and eventually replacing my Daikin heat pump setup. I look forward to working with Shavon and Sunset when it's time for a major repair (and looking forward to a day when auto spell can let me spell Shavon's name!!!) Eduardo did the service, and is an expert with heat pumps (particularly Daikin), very knowledgeable, skilled and friendly. It was a pleasure having him work on my HVAC. He was super detail oriented, and the fan blows stronger, quieter, and cooler after the service work. I feel like i got a lot of value for my dollar. Sunset is highly recommended, from start to finish.

I was without heat for a week and after waiting for part Eduardo A came to my house and repaired the system. He checked the system before installing the part and then continued to work on it until it was working.He found a hose that seemed to be an issue and immediately replaced it. He also checked the thermostat.and the vents to make sure it was okay. He also answered any questions I asked. He is a very courteous and pleasant man.
Allen deftly and accurately isolated the cause for our furnace not running. It was the Condensate Pump. He had a replacement pump in the van and got it installed in the same visit. He took time to explain his troubleshooting approach. Our furnace is back running and I gained some knowledge in the process.
