It's always a pleasant experience dealing with everyone from the reception staff to the technicians. We had an issue with our furnace twice in 2 weeks and both times Kyle got to our house right away and was informative, helpful and fixed our issue quickly! Deliveries are always on time and I like the convenience of the online bill pay platform.

Will be looking elsewhere. Canceled my services due to high pricing and poor customer service. I was told the competitions pricing (which was in some cases well over a dollar cheaper per gallon) were “Time Warner” prices. I believe this was alluding to the practice of offering an honest rate until
A loyal customer is earned, before jacking the rates up. This is the exact experience I feel I was provided with John Ray and Sons.

The mechanics who performed yearly services were exceptional. If only the Sales/customer interfacing were as knowledgeable and considerate on how to treat your customer base, this would be a reputable company to do business with.

We have been using John Ray & Sons since 2019 for our home heating oil and resigned the contract for 2023. The past two deliveries we have received from them have been about $1.50 more per gallon than other companies within the area. We would get home heating oil from another company but John Ray charges $400 to terminate the contract. We understand there is a convenience charge for the automatic delieveries but to be charged $1.50 more per gallon is not right. When we call to question why their price is so much higher than the other companies they cannot provide any answer other than "that is what we charge". It seems they are price gouging our deliveries to make up for when our last contracted ceiling price was lower than what the going rate was for other costumers. Once our current contract expires, we will not be using John Ray anymore and would also advise others to go elsewhere. The one positive note I would say about John Ray is that there service technicians are friendly and have always been nice to work with.

Update (4/25/2023)
John Ray has not corrected the problem. They put a band aid over it by refunding our contract cost but have not resolved the main issue. They continue to price gouge. Unfortunately due to our contract with John Ray, they have delivered oil for the third time at a price $1.50 more per gallon than other local companies. Once our current contract expires, we will not be using John Ray anymore and would also advise others to go elsewhere.

Update (5/2/2023)
John Ray has still not corrected the problem and I feel they have no intentions of addressing the issue. After the latest gouging I called them on 4/25/2023 to address the issue. I was put on hold multiple times and passed around to different departments. The call ended with them telling me that the person I need to talk to is out of the office and will call me back...It has been a week and still no call back. DO NOT USE JOHN RAY!

John Ray might be the most awful company I have ever dealt with. My story is way too long to fit in this review. Aside from being one of the highest priced in the business, their customer service is the worst. Stay far away from them or convert to gas if you’re able to.

Great customer service. Sales rep Mike Cohen is very helpful and friendly, always returns calls...pleasure to deal with

Do NOT get your fuel from this company. If I could give zero stars I would. I will never recommend this company to anyone.
I am going to be completely transparent in this review so people can be made aware of the scam that this company is. My husband and I switched to John Ray when we bought our home in March 2021. We were persuaded by the benefit of cap pricing with automatic refills so we signed up for a one year contract. Our "cap" price was $2.69/gallon, or close to that. Fast forward to 2022, when it was time to renew our contract. We called customer service and said we would like to renew. We were told someone would reach out to us to confirm. They never did. We assumed that the message we left with customer service was relayed that we would like to keep our contract going and keep our cap price where it was. We then got a bill in October of 2022 for $1,200 (almost $6.00) a gallon. We called and were told that our new cap was $5.85 and that is why our bill was so high. When asked why our cap almost doubled, we were told "because we did not renew our contract right away, we were placed on a variable price." Then, when they decided to lock our contract in, it was for the new high price. Convenient for them. Fast forward again to December 2022, hit with another bill of $900 ($5.88/gallon). Now, if we were told our new cap was $5.85, why are we being charged $5.88? We called again. We were told our cap was $6.02 so we were not overcharged. We asked for a call from the pricing department and never received a call back. Our last attempt to contact the pricing department was this week (week of January 9th, 2023) and we were told that our cap was $5.88. We were told again that the pricing department would reach out to us to resolve this. We finally got a call back this morning (1/13/23) after my husband left an honest review of our experience. None of our questions concerning the changes in price were addressed, and we were told that we should get on the monthly payment plan so we don't have to pay a large bill. There was no resolution, no explanation as to why our "cap" mysteriously keeps changing every time we call, and now we basically are stuck with paying a $400 cancellation fee. The price for oil from a competitor along with the cancellation fee is the same as if we continue to get oil from John Ray until our contract runs out, so as much as we don't want to eat $400, we will be spending the same amount of money regardless.

Again, I will never recommend this company to anyone. Stay away from them by all means.

Update: 1/16/23 we were delivered another $900 order at $5.93/gallon. During our last conversation on the phone, we were told the next delivery would be the last week of january. Knowing that we would be unable to call on the weekend, they delivered a week early on a Monday. They absolutely knew we wanted to cancel and decided to come dump fuel on us before we got the chance. What an absolute joke.

Oil prices are to high!! I have a ceiling contract of 6.12. First delivery I was billed at 6.09. Looking in the area of Columbia county I found prices at $4.84, 4.61. First fuel is selling it at $3.29 for a minimum of 100 gallons cash. When I called I was given a credit on my next fill while being told we do our own thing on pricing.

Recently signed up with John Ray & Sons. Had appointment for a furnace cleaning and tune up but said furnace was making all kinds of noise and was worrisome as to how it would handle another cold snap, so they sent someone immediately and found a couple parts needed replacing. The young man was very friendly knowledgeable and explained things as he worked. Props to Kyle S. For a job well done

My family and I switched to John Ray & Sons after an extremely stressful experience with our last provider. John Ray & Sons has been a great company who keeps us well informed and has gone above and beyond our greatest expectations in its delivery of services to our home. In these uncertain times, I am comforted to know that we have finally found an honest company that makes meeting its customers needs its number one priority!
