We hired John Ray to install ductless air conditioning in our house. Was told it would take a day and a half. Instead of supplying qualified John Ray installers, as promised, they subbed the job out to some plumber from Vermont. He spent 8 evenings in our house, working on his own, banging away till after 10pm. We are contractors - if we wanted to do it ourselves, we would have. But we decided to pay big bucks to a real company to do the job. Instead we got some dude who had to read manuals and google instructions. My husband ended up putting in several hours to help him finish the job. We received hollow apologies when we complained. No offer of a discount.

John Ray & Sons started my service as an emergency delivery and has been perfect since. The customer service is amazing! 5 stars isn't enough honestly.

Yesterday I got home to find that the house was at 54 degrees. Even though it was late, they sent someone out and it turned out to be someone who has worked on my finicky boiler more than once. Austin remembered me and the system I have. He found a temporary fix to to keep the heat on overnight and came back early this morning with a more permanent fix. He found a way to rewire part of the system and saved me from needing to buy a $500 replacement part! Between the emergency call and his return visit, it only cost $290. Austin is absolutely amazing and I strongly recommend both him and John Ray and Sons.

No real issues thus far. Delivery has always been timely. They made a mistake and gave me more oil than I asked for. Then, sent me a bill for me to pay the extra amount. I was not happy. Called to discuss and they had already changed it to a zero balance and honored their mistake. Pleasantly surprised.

We just got hooked up for propane with John Ray and Sons. The technician was very friendly and very efficient. A few hours after they left I still smelled propane. I live in Vermont and the office is in Troy, Ny. I called them back at 4pm and Jim, the tech, came right back to the house and remedied the problem. My pilot had gone out on my gas stove and Jim helped me get the pilot adjusted and relit. Very friendly, fast and efficient. Would recommend John Ray and Sons to anyone looking 4 profane or fuel oil

Today had John Ray install new propane service. They installed check lines, and started all equipment. Tech were great. As of right now all good.

We have a fuel oil boiler system that failed on Thursday afternoon (11-20-20), and have a supply (propane and fuel oil) and service contract with John Ray & Sons - we realized it was late fall, an upcoming holiday weekend, and the likelihood of other customers with similar emergency issues to be pronounced.
After the initial service request, we received a 7:19am Saturday morning call from Mr. Zbigniew Szymanski who committed to a site visit later that afternoon to discuss options on boiler size, pricing and access. Later that morning, and unanticipated, was a call from the John Ray & Sons General Manager (Mr. Eric Pope) who not only explained the process and the long history of John Ray, but committed to having a service team from the lower Hudson Valley to replace the boiler early Monday morning.
On Monday morning (11.23.20) Bob (from Connecticut) and Jake (Mr. Popes's son) arrived @ 8:00am after a three (3) hour drive - eight (8) hours later we had heat, the area was left exceptionally clean and the old boiler removed. More remarkable was the visit from Mr. Pope, who spent time from his conflicted and complicated day to visit and have a conversation with me and my wife.
It is an understatement to compliment the team at John Ray & Sons for the quality of professionalism, the courtesies extended, the technical skills exhibited, the fairness in pricing, the ethos of the organization and character in this endeavor which was beyond exceptional --- especially in today's corporate environment, often steeped in arrogance driven and focused on profits and not the customer.
On behalf of my wife and four dogs - thank you Mr. Pope, and the John Ray & Sons family, with best wishes for a safe and enjoyable holiday. Dr. and Mrs. C.H. Brearey

Very dissatisfied! Please help us!
After 5 months, we finally have the Generac we ordered in August 2020. It was installed on January 21---but it's non functional since the Install doesn't meet code on its placement outside the house, and thus a line from the propane tank to the unit could not be completed!
I am at my wits end on the journey to get our Generac functional. This all started in August of 2020 when sales person came to our home to discuss the Generac Installation and cost. We also decided to have a new furnace and tankless hot water system installed also, since we needed to have a propane tank for the Generac, and our oil tank was very old. So, we decided to get a complete conversion to propane. We previously have been with John Ray for Oil.
Anyway, we put down $8000 deposit for all of the installs---Furnace, Hotwater system and Generac. While we weren't happy waiting until October to get the Furnace and Hotwater system installed until mid-October (something we were told in late August when Randy came out to look at the site) we were patient.
I discussed placement to the Propane Tank and Generac back in August with "Z". And where the Genrac would be placed. Also with Randy when he came out in September for a site check. Randy had suggested some crushed stone for placement of the Propane Tank, and maybe some landscape timbers to hold the stone in place.
I went right to work on getting a nice site built for the propane Tank, and the Generac. I removed Rhododendron plants , so make way for the tank and Generac. I hired a person to install landscape timbers--at a cost of around $600-. I put in a load of crushed stone.
Sometime shortly after I constructed the landscape timber/crushed stone pad, "Z" returned to make updated measurements for the furnace system. While he was here, I showed him the landscape timber/stone pad---I wanted to make sure everything was done to John Ray's satisfaction, to have the tank/Generac installed.
"Z" took updated photos of the site
Sometime in late September, one of the nice ladies from JR called and said the Generac wouldn't be available until January. Ok--I'll wait for it.--I understood the manufacturing problems due to Covid.
Once Randy came out, in October, to do the install of the Furnace and other inside systems (he did a fine job) I thought everything was ready to go---aside from waiting for the Generac. While Randy was about to complete his end of the project, JR came out to install the Propane Tank, and do the hook up for Randy's system (Regulator, etc. and line from the tank to the house.
It wasn't until then that I was told that the Generac couldn't be placed right in front of the tank. I think Randy (who by the way I liked) and the fellow from JR discussed it and told me the Generac had to be placed at a site down a ways from the tank.
I told them I'd remove all the Rhodedendrons down along the house in that area they recommended for the updated Generac site, place more crushed stone, and get the area ready for them by the the time the Generac would finally be delivered.
Top make things easier for the electricians who would install the Generac, and knowing winter was coming, I purchased and salted the crushed stone where I was told the Generac had to be placed. I covered the area with tarps, to keep the snow off the site--I tried to be a good partner for the job.
The electrician came out the day before the Install in January---finally, we would have out Generac after waiting since August 2020. he looked it over. They arrived right on time at 8:00 on January 21---and did a nice, neat job with the installation.
Only today, when JR crew arrived did I find out a line from the propane tank to the Generac that was in-place, wired, and ready to go could not be completed because the Generac placement, and set-backs did not meet code.
I'm sure you can understand out frustration--again, we tried to be good partners with JR to get the jobs done. I went way, way way above the norm is readying the site for the jobs---and make it easy for the crews.

I still currently have them but I don't think it is going to last much longer my wife has sent a contract back to them for the fourth time with the lock in price because they keep saying they don't have anything even though we have the conformation paper work from them saying we are set!! Than January 22 I call the office because we hadn't received a delivery since the first one of the winter and our propane tanks were down to 20% and we have a 5 year old and a 1 year old at home and didn't want to run out and the lady looked it up and told me yes you are on auto delivery and that you are schedule for a delivery Monday the 25th okay not a problem. So now it's Sunday the 31st and it's cold and dinner is cooking on the stove which is also propane and it goes out!! So I go out to the tanks and there down around 3-4% so my wife calls and the the on call guy is very nice and he came out at 2 hours later which is no big deal I get that and fills the tanks so my children can be warm!! Now my wife calls today 2-2-16 to make sure we are not being charged a extra fee for an emergency deliver because it's not our fault! And she gets from the very rude lady we don't even have a contract for you or your house!!! Come on people get your act in gear and do your jobs in the office like your suppose to be doing!!! Blue Flame is looking way better at this point I know that! So it might be more money somewhere else but it will be worth it in the end to use somebody else!!!!
So I going to say that on 2-2-16 Nancy whom is the office manager called to rectify the situation in which she was very nice and very apologetic to my wife about the way she was treated by the office help and to the effect of us running out of propane and made sure that all the contracts are correct and also fixed the pricing mistakes that have taken place. Also if there are any further issues to contact her so it can be rectified correctly and efficiently kudos to Nancy and thank you from Josh and Jaime Parent.

We are new customers and we were feeling really nervous reading the reviews below. Our oil tank was almost empty. We did not realize that we had to wait so long to get oil. But, after several phone calls and getting a confirmation date, they came Sat. 1/23/16 and refilled our tank as promised! I do hope in the future that we don't have to go through this panicking mode!
