I came home from work and my heater wasn't working. I called and left a message on the answering service and I received a call back in less than 5 minutes from Mr. Steward himself. He told me that Jeff was coming out to fix the heater and would be here shortly. Jeff B. arrived in about a half an hour and had the heater back up and running within an hour. Many years ago when we had our old heater it decided to stop working on Christmas Day. We were expecting a crowd for dinner and had to get it up and running. We called them and they were here within an hour and had it fixed up for us so we can have our Christmas dinner. W. B. Steward is always professional and prompt. They are the best around!!

    W. B. Steward and Son is a great family business with rich values that go back 65 years, yet provides quality service for the changing environments. Don Steward Jr. treats all of his customers like they are family, making sure their needs are met and addressed efficiently and effectively. His takes the time to educate all of his employees so that no matter who services your home, they are sure to be an expert in the field. W. B. Steward and Son and Don Steward Jr. are definitely the most reliable HVAC company in the area, and more trustworthy than a large commercial brand. They take pride in helping their customers as best as they can!

I purchased my home in the end of November this year, and within a week of moving in began having issuing with the HVAC system. After an initial repair, the old system functioned until it was time for the 90 plus degree summer days and now the AC starting acting up. As usual, I called WB Steward as my family has been doing business with them since the 1960's. Jeff responded and diagnosed the issue, which would have been a costly repair on a system with many issues (I should note, WB Steward had nothing to do with the installation of the old system) other than the current issue. Jeff suggested making an appointment to have a quote on a complete new system. I was apprehensive at first about this due to the fact that I hadn't owned my home for a year and really did not have the funds for this, never the less I followed Jeff's advise and contacted Don who came out a few days later. Upon arrival, Don, who I have known for years, quickly began explaining to me the many issues with my current system, especially the improper duct work presently in the house. At this point, I was really apprehensive due to the expense and did not know what I would do. Don continued through the house, thoroughly explaining the issues, and how WB Steward and their team of installers could correct them and give me a pun HVAC system that I would not only be completely satisfied with, but would also save me money due to its efficiency. At this point,I was sold, but still worried about the funds. That's when Don explained and assisted me with financing which covered most of the job. A few days later, I had a written proposal and gave a deposit for the work to start.

Throughout the install, Don and his employees were prompt, courteous, trustworthy, efficient, and overall hard workers. They completed the job in a timely matter, almost within the planned time, however, the only reason it took longer is they went above and beyond what we actually planned to make the new system even better. At the end of the work days, the crew made sure my house was clean and even with half the HVAC system torn out/installed, they made sure my house was still livable. Upon completion, I could not be happier with the new system. It works flawlessly, both heating and cooling my home with extreme ease! I now have top of the line equipment, that I am confident will be in this house longer than I am. As a huge bonus, the new system is so quiet, you can not even tell it is on. Don is still following up after the fact, making sure I am satisfied and being sure that they do not have to make any adjustments. I am beyond satisfied with WB Stewards work and would recommend them to anyone. They may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Remember, the "the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten"

The customer service from the owner is poor in my opinion. We had significant annoyance during the project. There is a very lengthy diatribe I’ve written about property damage, but I will post it separately. Don vehemently stood by his new employee is the bottom line. Trust was damaged.

Don Steward is a good salesman. He pointed out flaws in the workmanship of others and proposed improvements. His confidence was reassuring. The workmanship of the new ductwork for our first floor central air system in my opinion is average. Don’t expect custom sheet metal. It’ll be foam duct board and some tape. We have hot spots in summer and cold spots in winter. We were instructed to stop using our WiFi thermostats we purchased from W.B. Steward since they “must not be communicating properly.” We spent over $30,000.

So ... recently, I smelled natural gas (Mercaptan mixing chemical if we are getting technical). I called PSEG and they came out right away and confirmed that the 4th furnace burner was leaking .25% gas. The furnace was issued a “red tag violation” meaning it can’t be operated. The young man said that the “furnace is so clean it looks new” and to call the company who did the work on it.

So, I thought to myself that the things from the past really weren’t worth holding a grudge over and sometimes unfortunate problems arise in big projects. I called Don. He sent my call to voicemail ... and texted back quickly, sending out someone the next day. PSEG had assured us it would be “an easy fix.” The worker was very polite. I was happy to have a “slam dunk” for this company so I’d feel better about the previous lackluster experience. The employee reported that he “couldn’t reproduce the smell.” Umm ... okay whatever ... just need you to measure the leakage with a gas detector meter and then fix accordingly. He also notified us he had a cold. Definitely needs to lean on an effective gas detector in that case for sure. He explained some confusing things about “increasing pressure in the line”—which he wrote on the invoice. Hold up!???! You increased pressure for a gas leak? I thought about calling a second opinion, but I waited until Tuesday for PSEG to inspect the work. I was hoping that maybe the gas line pressure increase worked. Needless to say, the PSEG employee red flagged the unit again. I told him that the company who did the work didn’t know how to fix it. He said it’s easy and that it’s not the specific burner but the furnace gas valve. I asked if he could tell the HVAC contractor and he said, of course. Call was sent to voicemail and the owner later texted with me about the problem. I asked PSEG if they could recommend anyone and the worker said that he could do the valve replacement if I wanted. Why yes! No sales pressure and I was definitely grateful. I filled Don in on all of the details and the fix that happened. He said he would look into why they didn’t get the reading PSEG did (140 ppm).

So, what happened with that credit card info I left with the secretary? I was charged $169—FOR WORK THAT DIDN’T FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!! No call to apologize, no acknowledgement of that I shouldn’t pay a repair fee for something that wasn’t appropriate, and in my opinion perhaps dangerous. I politely asked a couple of days ago what he planned on doing and that it was his call. As it certainly is. It’s not about the money—it’s the principle, but also ironic that $169 became nails in the coffin of a lackluster experience from a $30,000+ project. Now, I didn’t write a review before because I thought that with the warranty I might be stuck with them. I really wanted the gas leak repair to be a “corrective experience” that we would all part ways feeling good about. Now, I KNOW I can’t in good conscience use W.B. Steward ... not because of mistakes, but because of lack of honesty, accountability, humility and customer service.

Don's employees installed our heater and central a/c unit 9 years ago. The units have worked flawlessly, up until last night, when our central a/c unit stopped working. I called at 8:30 PM, left a message, and Don called me right back! He said someone would be out in the morning. Sure enough, someone was here a little after 10 AM and quickly fixed the problem. Mind you, we are in the middle of a lengthy July heat wave! It was nearly 100 degrees yesterday. And this was the kind of amazing service we got. I cannot say enough good things about W.B. Steward & Son.

They care about the customer and solving problems, not making money. I Highly recommend this company !!
I Called for an air conditioning replacement quote as it was the only solution to another problem my previous service company could come up with. I explained the situation to Don and after looking at my system and running a test he was able to give me multiple solutions. He Looked at things the other company didn't even bother to. (things that are supposed to be automatic with a tune up).
