    Thank you for the maintenance check up today.. I do have a question though.. Jonas was extremely polite and seemed to be thorough.. however I did take a few photos of the outdoor unit after he finished up.. do you typically take grate covers and the blower unit off and clean the inside of the condenser unit?

    Our roof-mounted AC went out on a Tuesday. Another company said they’d have a guy out on Sunday morning for a very reasonable price. Sunday morning arrives and the rep from the other guys comes out… and doesn’t have any way to get onto our roof. Nor does he appear to care.

    So we called Moncrief. They had a tech out on a Sunday, within 3-4 hours, with a ladder, who was able to fix the issue on-site no problem.

    I should have shared this earlier. Robby was everything you would want in having a tech in your home. From his huge house protecting shoes, to his answering all of our questions, it was a more than 5 star experience. Not to mention the fact that our house has not felt this cool in many a hot season.     We really appreciated the 3 men who installed out new HVAC system. They came on time, worked well together, answered our question, listened to our concerns and cleaned up after themselves. The installation went smoothly and they showed us how to work the new thermostat before they left. We are very satisfied with their work and the new system.

    Similar to another reviewer, I found Moncrief to be predatory in their practices. The issues I experienced were as follows:

    1. The tech recommended an AC float switch be installed. I already had one installed and pointed that out to him. In addition to wanting to install something I already had, they wanted to charge over $400 to install it when the going range is $180-$300

    2. They charged $417 to install a single pole 24v contactor. This is a part that costs ~$30 and was installed in less than 10 minutes. When I asked the tech the price of the part, he said he didn't know (which I find hard to believe). When I told him my normal AC guy said that $417 was extremely high, he got defensive and said he could just leave without fixing it. He tried to justify the exorbitant cost as a convenience cost since it was Sunday and because he was a professional. This didn't make sense since they also charge a $119 fee to diagnose the issue and then $60 on top of that as a convenience fee since it was a weekend.

    3. I was charged $68 for a 15 minute cleaning which I approved, but that puts their hourly rate at $272/hour for labor!

    4. The first solution the tech came up with didn't fix the unit. He said it needed another part. When I asked him what happens if I didn't need the first part after all, he said he would remove the part, but still charge me the labor to uninstall it!

    On a brighter note the tech was thorough in his work.

    In the end I had to spend over $900 to get my unit running. My normal AC guy who was out of town said after hearing my story that it probably only needed a $30 part plus installation. To be fair my normal guy didn't look at the unit, so he's just guessing. But here's what I do know, I was over charged on parts I needed and was encouraged to buy a solution to prevent leaking water when I already had one.

    I would recommend that folks look for a local, small, one-person operation who is bonded and insured to repair their HVAC systems as opposed to a company like Moncrief. Smaller shops survive on fair, honest work. Also make sure that whoever you choose is willing to break down the labor and part costs so that you can be sure you know what you're paying for.

    Martin was the tech at my place today. His customer service is stellar, his product knowledge, excellent. He made me aware and explained, clearly, all work that needed done and why. If you had zillion star ratings, he would be so deserving!

    I can't say enough about this company's professionalism. Always on time...quick and personal response from real people..not computers. Communication is superb. You get a photo id of service personnel on your phone before they arrive and can track them all thr way to your house. Service personnel are clean, neat and respectful. We had an ac replaced and the workers were soquiet we hardly knew they were there. The covered the floors and their shoes. They were very efficient too..showing up right on time and wrapping up about 3 and a half hours later. Except for the nice cool air there was no trace they had been here. We've used Moncrief for more than 30 years and are never disappointed.
