Shady commission techs that give honest HVAC guys a bad reputation.
Misdiagnosed an elderly Sun City customers not even 10 year old unit and told them it needed $7k of work, better to replace it for almost 18k. For a 3 ton package unit? You could buy 2 units from a reputable company for that price. Luckily the customer got the salesman vibe from the "tech", and got a second opinion.
Owner was told a reversing valve was failing among other things. Kind of hard to diagnose a bad valve if the unit is almost out of refrigerant. Took about 5 minutes to find the leak and repair it. Customer was back up and heating for a fifth of what they quoted.
Here's a tip for management, if you're honest, have fair prices, and treat your customers as if you knew them personally, you will make plenty of money to stay in business. Screwing people just paints all of us in a bad light.
