We had a large job done at our house in the spring of 2021. The existing central AC was poorly installed by another company about 14 years before we bought our house. Silver duct work ran down the middle of the hallways in plain sight. We also had a propane boiler and radiator system for heat. We decided to tear out he system and install an AC/heat pump and that Vertex would also run the ducting so that it was hidden in closets and basement. We are pleased with the design and felt that Vertex did a good job with doing what they said they would to hide the system and minimize impact to headroom in the basement.

The only issue we had was with our thermostat. During installation, the point person from Vertex informed us that our existing thermostat, which we had hoped to keep, might not be "smart" enough to handle the variables of a dual heat source (heat pump with boiler back up) and AC. He said that the thermostat they brought would likely not be complex enough to handle it either. We decided to stay with ours and see what happened when cooler weather came.

When cooler weather came the old thermostat was not able to do what we had hoped with the dual heat. At this point communication with Vertex had broken down and it was difficult to find a point person to talk to. The initial service call came on a Friday evening and when more research was needed into a new thermostat and to find one at the shop, the shop was closed. It was several weeks before a controls specialist came out from Vertex, who then proceeded to install and set up a super smart $475 thermostat. The system works now as expected and we are pleased with the end result.

This would be a five star rating if it wasn't for the run around from the third week of October until mid-November when the issue were resolved. Not being an expert, I can't say whether Vertex should have known our existing thermostat would work. But for while in the fall, we were unable to contact anyone higher than the office assistant for answers to our questions or to come up with a plan moving forward to resolve our issues.
