While I independently left a review for New England Ductless on the mini split install, we also had Boston Standard work with us the same day.
Kaleb showed up right on time, was very professional, and was proactive to do a walkthrough of the house since he arrived first. I was very impressed by how quickly he got to work, as he probably had pulled up all the tools and equipment within the first 30 minutes. I think the first head unit for the mini splits was installed in the first hour they were there.
Would definitely recommend both companies, and Kaleb specifically.

I noticed that my central air was blowing very little and warmer than usual air from the vents. I panicked thinking it would take weeks to find a technician to come out in June. I called Boston Standard and was pleased to hear they could send someone out in 2 days time (which happened to be a Sunday). Their technician, Josh Cassidy, came to the house and clearly explained the problem the unit was having and even though my unit is extremely old he did not pressure me to replace it. He gave me an honest evaluation and provided both long and short term options. He was pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend calling Boston Standard if you are experiencing any problems with your AC.

We called because our toilet valve started leaking. They were so nice and offered us multiple appointment slots over the next two days. We took the first! 8-12. Bill was here shortly after 8. They text with a reminder and then again when he’s on the way. Sent us a picture of him. We had called about 4 other places and they all said they could come out in about 7-9 days. Nothing definite yet, they’d let us know. That was stressful with running water!
It’s hard because you don’t typically call a plumber unless you need one, now, and they prefer past customers. At least that was the first question they would ask me.
Boston Standard was recommended multiple times on FB for their fast response time and quality of service.
Bill was super friendly and knowledgeable.

A/C unit annual service. Technician Josh was very knowledgeable, thorough and professional while also being personable and friendly. He took time to explain some changes that would help our system run more efficiently and silently and made some recommendations for us to follow up about. He arrived within the time window stated and thoroughly inspected the system, excellent service all round.

Daniel was extremely helpful repairing my AC unit. Went above and beyond to find an access point to a very inconveniently placed unit. Even found a solution to a wiring problem that would’ve left me with a larger issue. He spent hours making sure I had AC and walked me through the process so I could understand what was happening. Had a positive vibe and easy to talk to.
I do think there needs to be better communication by the company bc this was the 6th visit I had to fix the issue. One of the visits was a no-show and I had to reach out to ask if anyone was coming. Only then did they tell me. The workers have always been good. But for paying a monthly fee to be a member I would hope for better operational performance by management.
Giving 5 stars because of Daniel today. Other wise, it’d be lower.

Love Boston Standard. Anthony came by for an annual service of the Air Conditioning/boiler system and he couldn't have been better. Filled us in every step of the way and kept us updated with pictures/detailed notes. He arrived on time and spent the full day with us. Incredibly friendly and professional service - in the Boston area, BSC is the best!

Excellent service so far! I met Kyle for an in home consultation on a new HVAC design for my home. He was prompt and very informative throughout the entire process. He showed attention to detail and was very polite and courteous. Not to pressure other project managers, but it is next level service when he put on shoe covers without me ever having to ask. That shows a major respect for your home and an A+ rating in my book.

James came to my place a week ago to assess the issues I am having with my mini-splits. He was clear about his diagnosis and laid out options for next steps in an organized and helpful way, allowing me to make decisions about how to proceed but also giving me the advice that I needed to make those decisions. Today he made the repairs, and I am good to go for the summer. Communication is always good, clear, descriptive, and he takes the time to be sure I understand what’s going on. Faucet repair is next.

On April 19 the air conditioning units on all 3 floors of our house were inspected/maintained as per our contract. At the time the tech suggested replacing the starter capacitor on the 3rd floor unit. He gave us a proposal and price ($621.90) for the service. We did not question the price at the time. On May 12 we had the starter capacitor replaced, a process that took about 20 minutes. We were charged $621.90. Given the replacement part and the time to replace it, the price seemed excessive so we did some some research. What we found was that the part would cost well under $100 and the labor would not exceed a couple of hundred dollars in Boston. The maximum charge for services elsewhere never exceeded $400.
We understand that Boston Standard up charges both parts and labor and we fully accept that; however, $621.90 is outrageous for a job in Boston that, on the highest end, does not exceed $400.
We called Boston Standard on May 12 and explained our concern. We were told that someone would get back to us. No one did. After waiting a week and receiving two requests for an online (good) review - it was suggested that we call the company directly if we were not pleased - we sent an email explaining our experience and again stating that no one contacted us. We also said that we would be posting a not-so-pleased review if we didn’t hear from them. Again, no response.
It is with much difficulty that we are submitting this review. It is not our intention to ever call out a company without allowing them to respond. In this case we feel we have no choice.
We have no issue with the workmanship or the tech who was thorough, professional and responsive to our needs and questions. Although we have no issue with Boston Standard’s up charging, $621.90 is excessive even by Boston’s highest charges.

I contacted this business for a quote on an a/c replacement. It took longer than promised, required multiple follow up requests on my part, and the quote came in much higher than expected. If you’re looking for a business that will cost more than you want and work slower than you prefer, you found the place.
