Cool Zone Air Conditioning & Heating

We had 5 units installed by Cool Zone in Aug 2019. During the initial install one of the units shut down before they were even done installing all of the other units. A different unit goes down the next day. A few days later, the first unit that shut down already, shut down again! One day later, ANOTHER different one goes down completely. Every unit they installed broke down at least once within the first few months. Some multiple times. Many excuses were provided and if it were just one of the units I understand however it is NOT normal for 5 out of 5 units to break down.

We had a service check last week from Cool Zone. The tech said 4 of the units were fine but 1 unit had a leak and would need to be fixed. I asked him to give me a ballpark estimate of cost and he said it would be appx $185 for the leak search and $180 per pound of refrigerant. He said the total cost could be appx $1,800-$2,000 and that's if the leak is NOT in the coil. I asked about the warranty and he said that if the coil was bad, it would be covered under the warranty however the service and labor would not be. I said asked how much the service cost would be if a new coil was needed and he said $2-3,000 on top. I asked him, so you're telling me this could be a $5,000 problem on new units that were just installed less than three years ago? He said, yes. This is ON TOP of the $250 for each air filter they wanted to charge me to replace. $250 x 5 = $1,250 to change air filters! Full disclosure: the filters we use are $100 each but to charge $150 extra per unit or an 150% upcharge is egregious. After all of these potential costs/fees I did NOT feel comfortable with the tech at all so I told him I didn’t want to do anything.

I called Cool Zone to discuss my disappointment with how the service call went. The office manager was polite and apologized and they would send a new tech out the next week and try to locate the leak and change the filters for us. They offered to waive the next service call fee in order to inspect the leak AND install the new filters. I decided that I didn't feel comfortable how this all occurred and emailed her that I wasn't comfortable putting in new filters until they found the problem with the leak. Basically, I didn’t want to pay them $1,250 for filters if I still felt they were trying to take advantage of me. After I informed them that I wanted to figure out the leak first, she emailed me back and said that she does not think they are a good fit for our AC needs. So it seems that if I’m not willing to open up my wallet and pay them whatever they want without questions they don’t want to help?

I had a tech from Arizona Dukes of Air (ADOA) come over today and he stated that there is NOT a leak! Everything was running pretty well on the unit that supposedly had a leak except for a few install issues that were found. The unit was missing screws on the air handler panel and the unit also had large gaps between the air handler and the filter cabinet causing the unit to continuously suck in hot attic air. The tech diagnosed and made the fixes within an hour and the total cost was less than $150. Much better than the $2k-6k it could have cost me with Cool Zone.

FYI: Maintenance Package: Cool Zone’s platinum package is $600 for the first unit annually and $420 for each additional unit annually. Our 5 units would have cost $2,280 annually/ ADOA charged me $1,434 total for the entire THREE YEARS of maintenance with their best package! Three years of service with Cool Zone would have cost me $6,840 assuming their fees don’t increase. That’s over $5,000 extra or almost 5 times more expensive than ADOA.

In conclusion, we have been very disappointed with Cool Zone and cannot recommend them due to the install issues, costs/fees, and their techs (at least one of them) seemingly caring more about driving up costs for their customers than actually taking care of them. I recommend you interview other companies to compare so you are able to make an informed decision. I wish we would have.

Great customer service, honest and very professional. From the first phone call speaking with Danette, who recommended for us to receive at least 3 estimates for a new unit. She sent me quotes for different Carrier units that I was interested in. Then sent me another estimate for an additional unit the next day. Their pricing was in the middle. Dave came out to look at our current unit a few days later and went over their estimates. He is very friendly and personable, took his time answering all my questions, explaining everything they do and comparing the other 2 quotes that I received. I felt very comfortable to choose them because of the customer service. It took a few weeks to get all the parts in stock. New unit was installed 5/27/21 by installation crew of 3 nice guys: Tyler, Brandon, Byron. Danette checked in the next day to see how everything was working with our new ac unit. Dave came back a week later to do the final walk thru and make sure everything was working properly and make any adjustments. We did not have to pay for the unit until the walk thru was completed. How many other companies would do that? None. Very happy that we choose Cool Zone. Thank you!

Cool Zone came out the same day our Heat Pump went down. They fixed the problem quickly. Dakota was great! He explained the entire process. We would highly recommend Cool Zone!

Great work, great price and they were here quickly. A bit of a challenge locating the needed motor that met the requirements for the specs of the system. However Cool Zone's team found the needed part and we were back up and running the next afternoon. Cool Zone is the ONLY company we've used for the past few years for both our home and a rental that we have - we know we can count on them.

I am definitely not a person who likes to leave their opinion out there on the internet, but in this case I feel compelled to tell everyone how outstanding this company is. Cool Zone earned my trust right off the bat. I knew I had a 10+ year old unit, so when the technician, Dakota, came out to do maintenance on the unit, I expected the worst. Instead Dakota was honest and told me the unit was in working order, but at some point we may want to think about the fact that it is past its end of useful life. I was full on expecting a sales pitch about how I needed to replace the unit immediately and instead I got the truth.

I went ahead and asked for a quote which I received promptly from Danette and Dave who run the company like a well oiled machine. I have been in the Real Estate business in Arizona for 20+ years, so I am fully aware of the pricing on AC units. The quote I received was right on the mark for what the pricing should be on a AC unit of this size for an installation on a 2 story home, so I moved forward.

Install day came and went off without a single issue. Byron, Brandon and Tylor all did incredible jobs despite the fact that the temperature that day was well in the hundreds. The install was perfect and was even completed in less time than I was quoted.

In all, I cannot recommend this company any more highly. They are competent, honest, resourceful, trustworthy and friendly.

Cool Zone recently replaced our ancient rooftop unit and I couldn't be more pleased with the process from written quotes to the final walk through.

After much research, I narrowed my vendor selection to 3 top tier companies and requested written quotes. All obliged but Danette at Cool Zone went the extra mile to provide multiple detailed quotes for the 2 brands I was interested in at different price/feature levels. A follow up inspection and measurements from Dave confirmed the quotes.

Removal of the old unit reveled a somewhat unorthodox prior installation requiring some time consuming onsite installation adjustments requiring some additional personal to assist (thank you Tylor, Brandon, and Byron - all very professional and pleasant). At every step, everything was noted and explained in detail.

I was pleasantly surprised the additional time and effort required, as well as replacing some interior components not included in the quote did not alter the quoted price. Byron commented (I think it was him) working for Cool Zone was very satisfying as the owner's directive was always to make sure the job was done right and to ensure the customer was pleased with the installation and operation of the unit. I certainly felt that was true in my case.

The final walk through, several days after completion, to review the manufacturer and Cool Zone warranty details included some additional welcome surprises regarding additional Cool Zone warranty features.

So yes, I would recommend them.

My service person, Dakota, was hard working, answered all of my questions, and made sure my air conditioner was ready for the heat of the Arizona summer. Cool Zone Air consistently performs quality work and is very professional.

These guys were outstanding! They got to us quickly with a quote and with a replacement of our air conditioner. I would recommend them to anyone who needs repairs, servicing, or complete replacement. Their quotes were very reasonable, and they installed a Carrier system. Carrier was just rated as one of the best reliable units on this month's Consumer Reports. The installers were wonderful too. They cleaned up their job site immediately, and helped us fix problems the last a/c people left. I would feel very comfortable being alone with these guys during an install or service. Dave gave us a fast free quote, and even let us borrow a standing a/c unit over the weekend so we could get our install on Monday. There were two “punch list” issues after the install, and Dave took care of them quickly and at no charge. I believe other companies would have told us to get lost after the install was complete. They also offer service on the unit free for a period of time. Five Star Service!!!

Cool Zone Air Conditioning & Heating really took great care of my family and we can now look forward to a cool summer.
