I was looking to replace my old swamp cooler with an AC and replace my old furnace. I contacted a couple of different companies and got very different suggestions. They seemed more interested in pushing me to what they wanted to sell me instead of providing the best options for my home. I found American HVAC and talked with Steve, he provided me with great information and gave me an estimate while we were on the phone. After an on-site walkthrough, he provided me a written estimate which was significantly lower than the others I had received. They did a great job on the installation, were very professional, and installed quality products, they were very easy to work with and the final invoice was as expected no hidden costs. Everything is working great.

Steve came out to give quote on new duct work at our home. He was on time and very professional. He spent a lot of time providing education about what he recommended and why. You can tell he has a lot of experience in the field and is very knowledgeable.

Steve came out quickly after he came highly recommended from another contractor I worked with for a different project. He was accommodating of my schedule and discussed the HVAC system I had and gave me a couple of recommendations for service and a long-term plan that saved me thousands. He was clearly knowledgeable and experienced and that lent towards my confidence and trust in him.

I'll definitely be calling Steve in the future with any HVAC questions or issues I have.

Update 11/2/2021:
I don't usually post follow-ups, but feel it is warranted in this case. We originally purchased our system in 2018, A/C and furnace. Again, Steve did a great job with the install and it looks fantastic. The system is still going strong. I have also seen many systems start to get noisier after a couple of years, but that has not been the case with the system Steve installed. We could not be happier the system, the install, and the price. We would definitely recommend that anyone looking for a new system reach out to Steve and American HVAC. I apologize to Steve for this review being a year late. Steve was fantastic. He gave me a quote by phone and when he arrived the price was still the same. His price was far better than 4 other quotes for the same systems. Steve arrived when promised and completed the install in a professional and timely manner. A year later the system has been working fantastically and my heating and cooling costs have decreased dramatically. I would definitely recommend American for your heating and cooling needs.

I don't know why I got the short end of the stick since they have such good reviews, but they were absolutely terrible to me.

They told me they knew how to install heat pumps. They charged me $8,000 to install a top-of-the-line Rudd system. After a week it wasn't running correctly, and I called and asked them to come figure it out. They came back, tweaked a few things, and then left. Still wasn't working.

I called again and at that point they said it was no longer their problem and refused to come back and make it work. I was shocked. I hadn't Karened out on them or anything, they just weren't willing to come back. I had to call another company who said American did the electrical wiring to the furnace completely wrong, and I had to pay them to fix it because American refused to guarantee their work.

A year and a half later weird noises started, after two more companies came and looked a third company diagnosed that issue, by that time I was getting a low refrigerant warning as well. They determined that there was a leak in the refrigerant line, and that American hadn't taken the right steps to ensure no air got in the line (or something like that) while they were welding something. The broken part was backordered and several months of no Air conditioning (and no heat for months before that, using space heaters and the gas fireplace to keep my house warm in February) later, it finally arrived and the new company went to install it.

They then realized that because that part had not been installed properly, it had broken another expensive part. At that point I had already spent another $6,000 on repairs of the first system. They recommended at that point to throw the whole system out and install a brand new heat pump. Oh, also, American never registered my heat pump with Rudd like they were supposed to, which was why I couldn't get anything done under the warranty - because it wasn't registered the warranty started at the date of manufacture, not installation, and was void. It wouldn't have been if they had done the proper paperwork.

They felt terrible for what this company had done to me, and cut me a break, essentially taking the financial hit for what American did to me. They have offered to fully support me taking American to small claims court, but I just don't have the energy for that kind of negativity.

But it also feels wrong to not at least warn people about my experience.

They may do AC and furnace great, I have no idea. But DO NOT TRUST THEM with a heat pump.

Steve gave me a very fair price for the work, and most importantly, the furnace & A/C were installed professionally. I now have peace of mind knowing the work was done right & that they stand behind their work.

I am very happy I found these guys to fix my problem. I would highly recommend them.

American HVAC is the best! They performed a complete demo and rebuild of my furnace and A/C, including some 1950’s-era challenging ductwork. They performed it during a cold week in January, but lent us some temporary heaters to stay warm during the construction. Their work is top quality. Their service is the absolute best. I look forward to recommending them to any friends who need a similar service.

Steve Short and his associates did a fantastic job! They removed my old furnace, air conditioner, and thermostat and replaced all three with new equipment. They installed a superior filter box and filter that traps more dust and other air-born particles than my old one. They were on time, provided professional services, and the price was more than fair. I would recommend Steve Short to anyone.
