Get a second opinion.

I was having an issue with a very minor leak from one of the pipes under my hot water heater and called to have someone repair the leak. Was not informed that the initial cost was for someone to come out and just take a look and that I would then have to make a second appointment to get the repair done. Worth noting that the cost from the initial visit is not applied to your repair bill, though I did get this credited when they went back and listened to the recording of my call and verified that I was not told this was not a repair call.

The service person came in, took the cover off the hot water heater, and told me I needed a new one and they'd be happy to sell me one for $5,000. This smelled fishy to me, like taking your car in for new tires and being told you need a new head gasket. I had them do the repairs on the leaking pipe since that was my original problem and moved on.

I called a second company to come and check on the hot water heater because the info I got here felt wrong to me... the water in the shower and kitchen was definitely not as hot as it once was, but a new hot water heater seemed like a stretch. With the second company, there was no truck charge, and within 5-10 minutes, the tech had diagnosed the problem as a leaking shower faucet cartridge back-washing cold water into the hot line. He also serviced the hot water heater right then rather than forcing me to make a second appointment, and said everything looked great and there wasn't anything wrong with the unit. Over the weekend, I stopped at Home Depot and spent about $40 on new parts for the shower. Took about 30 minutes or so to replace the cartridge on my own. The hot water in the kitchen and the shower both work great now.

These guys may work well for some people, and they offer a wide range of services, but if what they are telling you feels wrong, don't trust it. Call and get a second or even third opinion if need be. I know times are tight, but if I had paid them $5,000 for a new hot water heater, it wouldn't have fixed anything because they never correctly diagnosed the issue to begin with, and I guarantee they would have been happy to charge me more to keep fishing for answers. I saved over $4,900 not using them. Additionally, the second company told me if they needed to replace my hot water heater with something similar, it would have been $2500 max, $3500 if I wanted a top of the line super efficient model.

I'll give them two stars because they showed up on time and the guy that did the pipe repair did the job as expected. But I won't be calling again...

Great firm from the owner to the office coordination team to the system installers to our annual service tech Randall. Randall originally bailed us out during the winter when our old furnace boiler wasn't working, then suggested we review a new system, the owner came out, did the estimate and we went for it; the install team did all as speced, within the quote. this was about four years ago and we've had Randall back every year for the annual maintenance to keep this furnace in top shape. Recommended company for old furnace maintenance, new installs and annual checkups.

Robben & Sons is absolutely terrific. We set a clear deadline at the beginning of the project and despite complications, they delivered on time. Our job was complicated but they identified creative solutions and did so with great attitudes. 100% of the employees were kind and helpful and bent over backwards to fix a problem that emerged. Oh, they were also reasonably-priced. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Robben & Sons has the everything I needed in getting my central AC systems tuned up and updated for the coming summer months.
