Called yellow dot as my furnace stopped working. Since they had installed the unit 6 years ago, figured I would give them a call to see what the issue was.

The next day the technicians came out and began their assessment of the issue. After about 15 min a Yellow Dot salesman shows up at my door asking for the technicians. They were still in the crawl space looking at the unit.

About 25 min later they all came back let me know I needed about 5,000 dollars in repairs on the unit which was 6 years old. This included replacing a draft motor assembly. Since they installed the unit they knew it was outside the original warranty. They proposed an option to fix the current or I could purchase a brand new unit at 8-10K that would have a 10 year warranty included.

That's when the sales guy began to pitch a brand new HVAC unit for the downstairs and the upstairs unit (which was working perfectly fine).

Needless to say, I immediately called another company for a 2nd opinion. They came out right away and took a look at the system. They were able to get it working instantly. Said the motor was working fine and wasn't broken at all. In fact they said my system looked great. A week later and everything is still running smoothly.

I will never use Yellow Dot again in the future.

One of the worst experiences with a company I've ever had. Yellow Dot installed my HVAC unit 5 years ago and for 4 years in a row my a/c unit has stopped working. Today I had a technician come to the house to try and figure out why it again stopped blowing cold air. He identified a small part that needed replacing and charged nearly $400 for the diagnostic. Then determined there was a freon leak that he could not find but wanted to charge either $600 more for not finding the leak or over a $1000 more for some advanced diagnostic process that took 2 days. Luckily, when he was cleaning up his tools he stumbled on a pin hole sized leak in a copper tube which he advised would be $1700 to weld for a grand total of $2700. I'll repeat that... $2700 for diagnostic work and patching a pin sized hole. I called another company while he was on site and was quoted over $2000 less for full diagnostic with repairs. I refused additional service and he attempted to charge me over $900 just for labor but no repair (2 hours max). He also attempted to get me to replace my compressor for another $400. It was not broken and he could not explain why he recommended replacing it. I asked to speak with a manager and got their GM, Brian on the phone. Brian in an attempt to defend his 200% markup above competitors began by disparaging the work another company would do not even knowing who I reached out to. He then proceeded to explain how insulting it would be to do the work for less and that he was tired of customers not wanting to pay for work and that I would be placed on a do not call list for future service. I've been a loyal customer for 5 years. He further went on to explain that "like minded" companies charge these prices because they answer the phone on weekends. This was not a weekend and I called last week so there was no rush on service. To add insult to injury, Brian ordered his technician to remove the capacitor that was already installed (which was the only repair actually made - imagine changing the batteries in a remote and that's the level of repair conducted) and then to charge me for all labor and 2 lbs of freon. Still $600+ with absolutely no repairs. Before the afternoon was finished I had the #1 rated HVAC service company in the area come out, repair and replace everything Yellow Dot quoted including the parts removed for $1700 less than Yellow Dot. This company's tactics by the GM and tech were to try and take advantage of people who may not understand the work they are doing and try to scare them into believing anyone else that does the work is unqualified. They attempted to charge for multiple unnecessary repairs and multiple diagnostic procedures on one service call. All of Brian's remarks were perfectly scripted as if he had said them a hundred times before. Brian was rude, unprofessional and clearly more concerned with his own feelings that the situation with his customer. Please be aware that more reputable, local companies that appreciate their customers are out there. Yellow Dot may complete the work and you may get a decent technician, but you are not a valued customer unless you are willing to let them take advantage of you.
