Thanksgiving morning, 2021: Woke up to find I had NO HEAT. Checked obvious possible problems; circuit breaker on, thermostat calling for heat (and showing 55°), and fan runs okay. Furnace (~10 yrs old) had been working reliably, with no known indication of problems. Schaal had installed Furnace, so I went to them first. On their website, I was presented with a self-scheduling feature, similar to what you frequently see, so I used it. I chose first datetime available, which was Saturday morning (8 to 11am), but when I tried to confirm it, the time was not available. Figured someone else beat me to it, so chose next available (~11 to 1pm), so I confirmed it and it worked. So, 48+ hours without heat would be a real problem in sub-zero weather (pipes), but I was planning to be with my daughter's family for the holiday, so I could work with that. During the next 24 hours, I received 3 text reminders from Schaal about my Saturday appointment. On Friday morning, I returned home to take care of some things, and found a message on my home phone, from a woman at Schaal, saying they were NOT doing Saturday appointments, but if I called back, they would try to work me in on Friday. So I called Schaal back, but the best they could do was put me on a 24- to 48-hour wait list, and call me 20 to 30 minutes before they will arrive. This meant I'd need to be stuck in my cold (and getting colder, now 45°) house, waiting for the phone to ring. Further discussion yielded a concession that they could give me enough notice to get from my daughter's warmer house to meet the Schaal person at my house (but I would still be tied down to staying available during the entire 48-hr period). I asked what happened to my scheduled appointment on Saturday, and was told that the system "wasn't working". (From my perspective, the system seemed to be working, but the people weren't). So, I started shopping for a better way. First, I tried Golden Rule (they say they have more trucks, but I just need one). They said they were looking at Monday for an appointment, and would try see if they could do better. Then tried Service Excellence, and got a similar response. Then, found a company (Modern Heating and AC) on my list that had a Rating of 5.0 out of 5 Stars (on 300+ ratings)! Having worked in service management for many years, I know how difficult it must be to maintain a perfect rating among all customers (unless the ratings are rigged). So I called Modern, and talked to a woman with an accent that I had some difficulty understanding, but I didn't give up, and she clearly was trying to be helpful to me and my situation. She said someone would call me back as soon as possible. At that point, I frankly wasn't real optimistic about what Modern would do, but WITHIN MINUTES, I got a call from Jordan! He said he could make an appointment to see me at 2pm the same day (Friday), but he wanted to be clear about what it was going to cost. He went over it several times to make sure that I clearly understood the cost. It seemed a little high to me, but acceptable. About 1 pm, Jordan knocked on my door, and I quickly briefed him on the problem, as he started to work on opening up the covers on the Furnace. You can tell a lot about what a service person knows by watching the way he/she goes about opening up the equipment they're working on, and this guy was very professional! Within minutes, he announced the induction motor was siezed up. He found the regular parts wholesaler was closed, but had an alternate source that was open until 2pm. He could get to the other side of town in time, and quickly returned with the new motor, installed it, cleaned up some other parts to be sure they wouldn't be likely to fail soon. Put it all back together, and the furnace immediately came to life. Everything Jordan did, from start to finish, was professional. He gets 5 stars. The only reason I didn't give Modern the 5th star was the cost.

I have used Modern Mechanical at least 4 times on my own personal house and my rental house - all have been great experiences. I appreciate that they help save me money by letting let me know when parts are still under warranty. I was first introduced to Modern Mechanical as a recommendation for maintenance on a commercial property. After their first visit they became our go to source for all maintenance, repairs and replacements. Due to their honestly, fair prices and top notch service I also decided to start using them for my personal home. They have been incredible and I even had them out to do a full inspection/service at a home we ended up purchasing as part of the inspection process.
With the extreme low temperatures this winter it was great having nothing to worry about thanks to their maintenance plan knowing our unit was in top working order. And in the event if something were to ever go wrong, I know they would have us taken care of.
I've recommended them to friends and family alike and all who have contacted them have had the same great service we have always experienced.

Tim was very professional and was honest with me about our furnace system and validated another company's assessment that the heat exchanger would need replaced which would ultimately mean the furnace itself being replaced. He wasn't pushy about it and took the time to understand our circumstance. he took an abundance of time to explain everything to me and go over every option that might help us. It did not feel like a pushy sales proposition. Assuming we can get good financing we do intend to have them replace our furnace and AC unit.

Modern Mechanical is fantastic! Our ac failed and we worked through insurance to get it replaced and Jake was on top of things from day one. We called and they were out the next day and were able to get us on their schedule within a week after getting the OK from insurance. Please use them if you have any HVAC issues, you will not be disappointed. Their service is top notch. I will recommend them to everyone!

These guys are HONEST! Being a property manager I've used almost every hvac company in the area. The big guys just want to sell you a new system with "free" insert item name here. Modern is in line with or less than the get free stuff guys with better equipment.
