I ordered checks from the Bradford Exchange, a Chicago area based company, online. All the examples online showed an account number that ended in 1001. So when I received my checks all of them had 1001 on the end of my account number. which was the number I decided to start my check numbers.
I contacted customer service ASAP. In which I was informed I ordered them that way. and they would reprint them at the same price as the special offer price. The Customer Service Representative said " As it was My Fault they Got Printed Wrong."
That's when I contacted the BBB of the Chicago area.
They represented me in a claim against the company in which I got my money back. If I ever have an issue to where I needed help again I would contact them again. This was the first time I had ever filed a complaint through the BBB. And they did a fantastic job representing me, the consumer.

I recently contacted the Better Business Bureau regarding an HVAC Business (Four Seasons Heating and Cooling) that knowingly overcharged me by hundreds of dollars. This company also falsified documents regarding the service I received. When I explained all this to the BBB, I received a response say it was not going to get involved in my situation. The BBB says its vision is to create an ethical marketplace and to call out substandard business behavior... however the organization has failed to do so in my case, and thus, is allowing the degradation of an ethical marketplace. We expect organizations like the BBB to hold companies accountable for their actions, but when it fails to do that, who holds the BBB accountable?

A department store, online service refused to honor their advertisement of free installation AFTER I confirmed the ad with at least two customer reps and purchased the item. This led to multiple attempts to resolve the matter with the company and days of unsuccessful communication. I contacted BBB and they acted as a mediator between the company and myself and resolved the matter very quickly. I was very appreciative to BBB. Without them, I would have been forced to hire a lawyer as I could not install the item myself. I do apologize that I did not name the company because the company usually have good products and service. I do not want to mislead anyone to assume that this company deserves a black flag. I guess they just had a double moon moment because I surely felt I was living in the Tri-light zone.

I entered a complaint against an online company (autoauctions.io philadelphia pa) which is fraudulent, made false claims and repeatedly charged my credit card. BBB confused the complaint with another company. I can't seem to be able to get the complaint corrected. The business name on the complaint was charged or auto filled- I don't know how the other business name got there. I made correspondence and the person acknowledged that they understood but the name on the complaint never got fixed. The complaint got transferred to DC without the business name being updated, then DC office transferred it back to Chicago. The complaint can't be corrected.

I cannot say enough praise for BBB. This is the most helpful, efficient and customer centric organization there is for the situation when you have a dispute with a business that you are not able to resolve on your own.
In the past 5-6 years I asked BBB to interfere maybe 3 or 4 times. Every single time I tried to resolve an issue on my own only to hear back from the business that they cannot do anything to help me for such and such reason.
Then I would file a complaint with BBB and it's like a magic trick!
In a week that business in question would all of a sudden offer your money back, business credit, much more favorable rates for their future services, etc. It's simply incredible how BBB is able to achieve these results in such a short time.
Thank you to everyone at BBB for your help and incredible results you are able to produce. You have saved me personally a lot of money and a lot of frustration when dealing with some less than responsible businesses!
I am really grateful for everything you have done for me personally.
I have recommended BBB to all my friends and I hear only very positive feedback from them as well.

UPDATE: No update. BBB Chicago is a joke. UPDATE: Two months later, I put my complaint number on here... NO REPLY. Can I take my one star away?
They couldn't help me because "they don't set contractor prices".. HUH? I wasn't disputing the price I was disputing the work being completed, having to pay someone else to finish the job AND why the contractor wouldn't provide me with any receipts. What a worthless waste of time. OH and the contractor has an A + rating. Good grief. RESPONSE: Here is my complaint number 12369121 This is the last email I sent to you which never received a response: "I understand that this complaint was closed. It was stated that it was due to a pricing issue and that the business can charge what it wants to. I agree with that. However, I don’t have the information to determine if I was even charged correctly. The owner made several appointments to meet me with that info and failed to show. He also didn’t finish the job. I find this very troubling. I guess I just chalk this up to live and learn. I have learned that there is nowhere to go to get help with this matter. I guess they get their A+ rating."

We had a customer go to BBB to decide if they should do business with us or not and cancelled their order because we had an F rating. I called BBB to see why the F and they had no documented complaints to support that rating and told me they would remove it. They removed the 'deceptive sales practices' from there but it's been 10 months and we continue to have an F rating with the BBB when there is absolutely NO COMPLAINTS to support it. I've emailed and was supposed to hear back within 24 hours & did not. I left a voice mail and have not heard back. Who do I complain about the BBB to?

On behalf of the Rule family, this company did an AMAZING job on our roof. They were nice, quick, and convenient. They do great work. We are 100% satisfied with their work and we couldn't have found anyone better to get the job done. Our roof looks better than ever. We are grateful!!!

After 12 service calls over 2 months and getting nowhere's with the repair of my non-working refrigerator I finally contacted the BBB and got an immediate resolution within 24 hours from Sears. I can only say that I was continuously told by each and every Sears representative I was able to speak to that I had no choice but to continue through this iterative process, which as mentioned above was on going over 2 months, until they were able to repair my non-working refrigerator until I got the BBB involved. Say what you want but the proof is in the pudding for me. My mom had a similar experience with a non-working washing machine and she too was finally made whole again after contacting the BBB.

The Better Business Bureau in Chicago resolved my complaint with United Airlines within 24 hours. I had previously tried to resolve for over 20 days and no resolution or replies to my emails or telephone calls however once the BBB submitted a complaint on behalf of myself the issue was resolved in 24 hours. The BBB in Chicago exceeded my expectations. It is refreshing to work with a company like the Better Business Bureau in Chicago.
