The BBB helped me resolve an issue regarding a defective product ordered from an online retailer. I had originally tried to resolve the issue with the company, to no avail. Within 24 hours of my complaint being filed with the Better Business Bureau, the company agreed to replace the defective items (which was all I was asking for in the first place). Now, everyone's happy. And, I was able to complete the entire complaint / issue resolvment process using my smartphone -- how great is that!! I'm one happy customer and a believer in using the Better Business Bureau.

My daughter ran into trouble with a company from the area - she bought concert tickets from a re-sale site - but was charged an outrageous amount of fees that were more than the tickets! The company told her she would not be able to get a refund under any circumstances, so I filed a BBB complaint (Not sure kids today are BBB savvy!) and it got the company to respond - at first they would not cave, but after another "conversation" via the BBB site, we got it settled. It takes the hassle out of having to speak directly with obstinate and arrogant people throughout a situation like this - and companies are sensitive to the fact that their antics can be collectively viewed on a single site! Thanks BBB!

We had a huge issue with US Cellular. They messed up our account and sent us to collections by mistake. I contacted them several times but they kept telling me once an account goes to collections there is nothing they can do. I contacted the BBB and within a few days they helped me resolve the issue by making US Cellular accept responsibility and contact the collections agency to remove our name.

I cannot thank BBB enough for the work they do!

I had 3 separate issues where Sears had not 1. Provided a service 2. Failed to deliver a chair previously paid for 3. Destroyed an oven paid for without offering to replace it. BBB was able to get these 3 issues solved in quick order. While BBB was superb, it points out why I will never buy from Sears again, and would encourage others to do the same.

I have been a customer of Kmart for several years. Back in August, I made an online purchase from them. On delivery, I discovered the item was not satisfactory. I wrote a letter to Kmart expressing my dissatisfaction and asked for a reimbursement for charges incurred to return the order. They surprised me when they denied my request. After about 2 months and several emails back and forth, I filed a complaint with the BBB. In just two days, Kmart agreed to reimburse me for the shipping charges. I do not think I could have gotten that type of response without the help of the BBB. I am very grateful for the time and effort the BBB put into my case.

My agent refused to contact me for months regardless of my phone calls.
Now my case is closed, and I can't reopen it because "I didn't contact my representative".
If you get Maury Umanzor or any of his associates as your representative, don't expect anything to get done. His incompetence and sheer inability to do his job will just waste your time. Not only will he never return your calls, but expect only automated responses from his emails (if he even emails you). Hire an attorney. It got me further in 15 minutes than this fool got me in months. If you need to find an attorney try the IL BAR association.

Anyone that works in this Bureau should be ashamed of themselves for ever thinking they help anybody but the corporations they "regulate".

When dealing with large utility companies in trying to resolve an issue that is clearly their fault you almost feel powerless since they're inflexible and they treat you like you are at fault and therefore you must pay for their mistakes. The BBB levels the playing field and makes them take notice that you have an advocate on your side that will make them listen and try to resolve issues in a fair manner. In my recent experience the BBB helped me resolve an over billing issue with the electric company that was caused by the meter reader not properly reading the meter. After the electric company telling me that my usage for one month of 3800 kwh was "in line" where my normal average usage was 750 kwh forced me to contact the BBB to help resolve this issue. Thank you BBB for your help.

Hired contractor partially based on the A+ rating. Filed bbb complaint based on poor work , missed appointments, no contact , wrong products ,not price.Bbb posted my review and after several more bad reviews lowered the company's rating to c+ with a warning to consumers of the pattern of complaints. At this time the company was not acredited ,which apparently means they hadn't paid their fee. Amazingly the company again became accredited ( they paid up ) and their rating suddenly shot back up to A+ and mine and other bad reviews were removed from their site. Bbb is of no use to the consumer and should themselves be investigated.
