I had placed a negative review I deleted it it was not Tommy Garner's fault but their answering service giving the wrong phone number. Tommy Garner is a professional small locally owned business with a friendly staff and Superior technician. I would highly recommend their service.

Our AC unit died after hours on the hottest day of the year so far (go figure...) and our house was rapidly heating up. I have a home warranty but I needed a response NOW, not within 24 hours when the heat index is pushing 110. I spoke to Tommy Garner's answering service and within 10 minutes, got a call back from someone. Within another 10 minutes, Colton was ringing my doorbell. As soon as he took off the back panel of our outside unit, he already had it diagnosed and was removing the faulty part. He had our AC running within 20 minutes of his arrival. He was really knowledgable, chatted with us the whole time, and even kept his distance due to COVID. I paid less for this after-hours emergency service than I would have if I had called my warranty company. I went to bed hot but woke up cold! Thank y'all so much for your prompt, professional service.

This company charges for the technician's start time based on where he/she begins the drive towards your location. If the tech starts in Virginia Beach, either because he/she is there on another call or getting parts, once they begin the drive to you, the clock is ticking and the customer pays for this cost at over $90.00/hour. Per the office staff, if the technician is stuck in traffic on the way and there is an accident, the customer pays for this time as well. It is NOT absorbed by Tommy Garner, but by the customer at over $90.00/hour. My technician arrived 45 minutes after the start of the 8:00am appointment and after 20 minutes of diagnosing my problem, he told me I was into my second hour. He explained that it took him 45 minutes to get to my house (I was the first call of the day and I live in Newport News, where their shop is located!)

The technician was amazing at his job, I have absolutely no complaints about his work and if the time practice was different, I would love to use him again.

I just don't think it is fair to put the burden on the customer that the technician is stuck in traffic or any other situation beyond the customer's control. The office staff told me it wasn't fair to the technician that they have to cover the cost of travel, I told her it wasn't fair to the customer. I feel Tommy Garner should absorb this cost as a cost of doing business.

My 24 year old HVAC failed late on a Friday afternoon during a very cold week in February. Being a senior citizen with health issues, a warm home is an urgent necessity. Fortunately, my young neighbor, Colton, has worked for Tommy Garner Air Conditioning & Heating for several years so I called and he immediately came to my home and diagnosed a cracked heat exchanger which meant carbon monoxide was a concern. He shut the system down completely and contacted Zack Garner who provided a price quote and a new HVAC system was ordered—all on a late freezing Friday evening —including the offer of Garner’s providing space heaters for my comfort. The installers, Austin and Nolan, were professionals who wore masks and shoe coverings .They worked diligently for seven hours to provide me with a warm home again. I am most thankful for the excellent services provided and quick turnaround of this process. This is the third HVAC system for my 50+ year old home and after several weeks of operating, I know it is the best and most efficient. Previous HVAC companies have had to make return trips due to neglected details. Garner’s crew attended to every detail! My sincere appreciation and gratitude to the conscientious crew who worked diligently to restore comfort in these difficult pandemic times.

The technician, David, was able to arrive very quickly and help with the heating system when it kept cutting on and off. It was fixed and has been running well. I was given information about what was happening, how it was being fixed, and what to do if there are any other issues. The pricing was a bit steep, but they appear to offer a discount to established customers.

Jamie and another gentleman arrived on time and ready to solve the problem. Our AC was not achieving the temperature that we set it at. Tommy Garner was referred to us by our home warranty company (American Home Shield) and they usually refer a different company and we have had this AC issue with them for the past 5 years so I was glad to have a different company come out. We have had to recharge our AC every summer for the past 5 years with the other company and we kept telling them that there has to be a leak somewhere because our line from the unit freezes over and we have to shut the unit down until it defrosts. We explained this to Jamie and he asked if the unit we have in the attic also is freezing over. My husband had just been up there the day before and did notice that it had indeed frozen over. He said that once the line outside is frozen then the one in the house would be too because the leak comes from inside first. He said that the unit would need to be recharged and that he would also add a sealant to the system that should take care of the leak if it's a small one. I was so glad to hear something other than "your unit needs to be recharged". Now hopefully the sealant took care of the issue and we won't have to "recharge" every summer. Jamie was knowledgeable and explained everything. Hopefully if we have additional AC issues/concerns they will send Tommy Garner back out and hopefully we will get Jamie again.

I called to get our AC unit replaced it broke during the summer . They came and looked at it got me a quote very quickly and did the work within two weeks. They were very professional in person. When I called the office all the staff were friendly and professional! I would highly recommend!
