I have three a/c units 3.5, 2.5 and 2.0ton. The 3.5 and 2.5 units were 20 year old units. The 2.0 was installed about 6 years ago. I called Douglas Mechanical and purchased their maintenance plan to come and look at all three units. Chris showed up prompt and on time. He went through every unit with great detail. When he was done after inspecting all units we sat down and he explained that the 3.5 unit could probably make it through another summer. The problem was that because it was 20 years old, it was not functioning at it max capacity and straining the 2.5 unit that was 20 years old as well but had a new fan motor replaced. He showed me in great detail my options. He was extremely knowledgeable and by no means made me feel that I needed to purchase a new unit. I did however decide to purchase and replace my 20 year old 3.5 ton unit. They scheduled the installation team the following day. The install team was on time and did and incredible job. They did however accidentally hit a line on my 2.5 ton unit while up in the attic. The install team did not have the actual hose to repair but they did acknowledge that it needed to be replaced. After speaking with Sean at the home office he was able to find a technician to come out and repair the 2.5 ton on the same day. Aaron was the technician that showed up. He arrived at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Had a great attitude even though it was almost 5 on a Friday. Aaron was great. Not only did he fix the issue with the 2.5 ton he reviewed the new 3.5 ton unit that was installed earlier that afternoon. I can not tell you how pleased I am with this company. There are alot of companies that would not even had said anything about damaged line on the 2.5. I think this speaks to the integrity of Douglas Mechanical. I will be buying a new 2.5 unit next year from them. I will also recommend them to any of my family or friends that are in need of a new unit or simply a service update.
I had a great experience with Douglas Mechanical. I called and spoke with Adriana who helped me setup an appointment. There was an appointment for the next day but I wasn’t available so we set it up for the day after. My thermostat was old and needed to be replaced. I decided to upgrade to a smarter digital thermostat as opposed to the old slider style as it’s easier to adjust set the exact temperature you want. Thank you for a painless install.
The tech Kyle was very professional and knowledgeable regarding our AC issue. The dispatcher was honest, courteous and advised me of how long it may take for the tech to arrive since they had so many calls. But it wasn’t much longer for Kyle to arrive and he fixed the issue got it working properly and also gave us information and tips on what we need to do next .
Update 6.8.2023 After talking with the owner, and a few months have past; I'm increasing this rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Some days are challenging running a business while other days can be an easy cool breeze. The company did fix all the issues in the end. The experience I had was a unique situation, and we all have to show some grace to others as no one is perfect. This veriable speed Unit has been working great! I love how it can keep a constant temperature throughout our home, and proactively reduce the humidity by slowing down the unit(decreasing capacity).
*Original Post* New XV18 Installed. Salesman- Very Knowledgeable. Installation Crew - Horrible and sub contracted. First Checkup - Did not catch anything. Second Checkup - Caught everything I told them about, plus more. First repairs of brand new system - Great Tech. Second repairs of brand new system - not everything caught and wasting more of my time.
For a top of the line Trane XV18 system, and the $24,000++ price tag, I would have thought this would have been a stress free installation with the best crew being sent out. Welp, that did not happen...
The sales rep was very knowledgeable and explained everything. I let others talk to prove to me they know what they are talking about as I'm an engineer and enjoy knowing how everything works.
The Sub Contractor crew that was sent out was horrible. I was having to be the on site manager and catching all their blatant mistakes. I feel concerned about other customers that should not have to know how something works, and are being taken advantage of.
List of items: 1. Standing on Compressor Unit. 2. Dirty gauge connections being screwed on to a brand new machine. 3. Return Duct work not sealed at all and sucking attic air. 4. Horrible copper braising. 5. Condensate drain and overflow sensors installed incorrectly. 6. No electrical bushing on air handler. 7. Outside copper line cover not installed properly. 8. Brand new coper line set damaged. 9. Knocked family picture off the wall. 10. Continuing to remind the company about a vent still needed. 11. Did not place the system in charge mode. This Veriable speed system is not like the old fashioned type, you have to follow the procedures for setting this machine up. 12. Management never reached out to me after letting the sales rep know of all these issues.
In the end, all was taken care of with a total of 6 visits from start to finish. Would not recommend if you live outside the city as I do, because they sent out a horrible sub contracted installation crew.
This company was chosen by my home warranty (1st American). It's took them 3 visits to determine the problem. Once they did, they ask me to make a payment upfront to continue with the repairs, which I did. After that, I did not hear from them for 14 days. I called their office several times, and they keep telling me they will have a manager call me with updates, THEY NEVER CALLED. Not even a 30-second follow call. Zero Communication after I paid. Meanwhile, I called another AC repair company for a second opinion. They found the real issue and fixed it for 300 dollars the same day. Douglas mechanic misdiagnosed the problem and tried to charge me 1200 dollars. Unacceptable!! Before all that, they did their best to sell me a new unit. So i'm not sure if that's how they treat all their customers or only customers that come through the warranty. I even attempted to go to their physical location to get my refund, and it was not accessible. After a few more calls, they ended up refunding me my money. A simple follow-up call or a call back to acknowledge a customer and let them know we did not forget about you go's a long way.
114 degree heat in the beautiful city of Houston and this company had a technician out within a day, Eric, my new hero. Methodically and quickly checked everything, detected and wow, resolved the problem. His explanations were thorough and honest, like talking with a family member. Maybe better. Great experience, highly recommend.
Our a/c unit failed a couple of weeks after moving in to our new townhome and was blowing only warm air on Friday evening. Douglas Mech was extremely responsive and out at our place to repair the unit the very next morning. The tech (Eric) was extremely helpful and professional, and had our unit pumping out cold air in under 30min. Great service and 10/10 would recommend these guys to anyone else
Jake was very friendly and helpful. He serviced my AC unit and made recommendations for future care. He's also great with animals. The dogs loved him. He asked if he needed to be concerned with the cat going into the attic with the ladder down. I've never had anyone ask before. It was appreciated. Thanks!
I requested service through my home warranty, as others have stated, and was assigned Douglas Mechanical.
I was told someone would be here between 8am and 2pm. I called around 12:30pm when I hadn't heard from anyone and was informed I was next on the techs list. At 3pm I still hadn't heard from anyone so I called again. Again, I was told I was next up. I asked it they could reach out to the technician for an ETA and was told my information would be passed along and the tech may or may not reach out.
At 6:19PM the tech called me to inform me that he would be here in an hour and 15 min! I spent my entire day at home waiting for the technician to come. A simple text or phone call with an ETA would have sufficed and I could have gotten other things done that needed to be done. I understand jobs running long but that's where communication comes into play. Why give a time frame at all if the time slot is not going to be adhered to?
Went through our warranty company. Benton was on time, friendly, and respectful of home. Called 30 minutes ahead to let me know he was on the way. This happened on a Friday when ac went out, here on Tuesday. Not bad turnaround for Texas heat. Can't comment on price as it was warrant company. But highly recommend their company. Thanks!
