** BEWARE ** ~ Penguin Air came to our home to evaluate our AC which was not operational. They did come the same day for about 15 minutes and said they would need to come back. Yes, you heard me right. We had the pleasure of sleeping all night in a house with no AC. They were back first thing the next morning and did diagnostic testing for about an hour or so. The technician made recommendations but said I would need to discuss it with Kristen in the office. They left yet again - who does that? Upon their 3rd and final visit, their recommendations had changed. Why, I am not sure? Honestly, in hine sight.... I should've gone with my gut and called for a second opinion so that is my fault in this fiasco. But when you are melting from extreme heat....you really just want AC and I had already come this far, right? We paid in excess of $500 to have the repairs they recommended performed. The AC was operational and was blowing cold air but I noticed that it seemed to be struggling ~ not operating as it should IMO. So I called the office - no answer so I left a message. Later the same day, I tried calling again - no answer again....I did not leave a message. Then I thought, how about trying to call from another number. It worked like a charm, Kristen answered on the second ring. How about that?? When I told her that our system seemed to be struggling, she said that she would have the owner call me. I asked her how long she thought that might be (as we were going into a long holiday weekend) she replied, "Well, I am not going to drop what I am doing at the moment. I will have him call you later". OK...that was the first time anyone in a customer service industry had ever given such a response. You guessed it - now I am furious. To my surprise, the owner.... Randy, did call later that day shortly after 5 pm to tell me that he had discussed the diagnostics and repairs with the technician and that there was nothing else they could do. He asked me to call back if the system went out again. I guess so, I'm thinking to myself wouldn't that be great to get another service call fee.
Now here I am, 3 very short months later and my system has gone out again. UUUGGGHHHHH! Today it will be 97 degrees.
The moral of my long but accurate depiction of the story here is ~ DO NOT CALL Penguin Air. IMO they are a low budget operation and are not just lacking in the customer service department (thanks Kristen) but also lack the necessary skills to repair the unit properly and quite frankly do not care as they move on to the next unsuspecting individual. But rest assured, you can always call back and pay additional fees to have them return and put an incompetent band aid on the problem. NOT!
