Excellent installation and equipment for a good price. I received quotes from 3 vendors for approximately the same set of products, a hybrid heat-pump/propane-furnace system by Carrier, as well as a propane hot water heater by another vendor. One quote was ridiculously sticker-shock high (large state-wide vendor), another company (local) was a decent quote, but could not do the hot water heater installation. OnTime could handle the entire job, and had the best quote, perhaps in part due to timing; by dumb luck (and procrastination) I caught them between seasons, mid-October, when there was some idle time for the installation team. I was willing to start installation the next day, and I also asked for a further discount when the salesman asked what would it take to sign today.
The installation team was terrific, and I hope OnTime treats these guys like royalty. All three were well trained and knowledgeable about all aspects of the job ... any of them could step in and do any of the tasks required … and they enjoyed working together and for their company. I’m an engineer, so I like to watch how they do things, and they were polite and “tolerated” me well; it was a really enjoyable experience watching and learning from them over the two days it took to install everything. They were engineering on the fly, making decision after decision about how to tailor the installation for our particular house … I’m very happy with the way they did things. And, even though I’m a DIY sort of guy, having now seen all that went into it, there is no way that I would have tackled it myself.
I’ve got a lot of respect for management, as well. They were willing to work with me when I had some special requests for a larger, more sophisticated heat pump (to help with my goal of moving toward “propane independence”), as well as a hot water heater that used outside air (instead of basement air) for combustion. The owner was candid enough to share some concerns about reliability of the heat pump model I wanted (Greenspeed), based on prior experience with similar models, but was respectful enough to go along with my request (so far I’m very happy with it, keeping my fingers crossed!). And, they had to call “all over the place” to find the special type of hot water heater that I wanted … they found one, but had to drive almost to Delaware to pick it up … no extra charge.
Management likes to stay “hands on” with the gear they sell. The installation team had found a low pressure situation (with our old outdoor propane regulator, not part of their installation). The owner and the installation manager came to our house to adjust the furnace (I took responsibility for adjusting the regulator), and make sure things were right. They came out themselves, rather than sending a technician, because they like to stay in touch with new models as they come along, and make sure the installation went well. To me, this speaks volumes about management care and integrity.
It took about two months to get through the permit/inspection process (my only complaint), but everything passed just fine.
AND, I'm very happy with the heat pump ... it's mid-December, we’ve stayed warm, and we've used virtually NO propane ... I've got the thermostat/controller set for heat-pump-only, but the system does use a little propane to perform a defrost cycle when the outdoor unit ices up ... the most expensive day so far has been around $7 in electricity and $1 for gas (the controller shows past 2 days of energy expense) ... the daily average for December has been around half that! We’d been spending around $3000(!) per year on propane with our old furnace … I’m very happy to see these new numbers!!!
Integrity starts at the top. I have been a customer of On Time Heating and Air for almost ten years. Anthony, the owner, has integrity in spades. He has taken great care of our family for our HVAC needs over the years, so much so that I felt compelled to leave this five star review. Thank you, On Time!
On Time Heat and Air answered my first phone call right away and was able to send someone over in two hours and well within the estimated time. The problem was diagnosed in less than an hour an and my heater was back up and running as soon as the replacement part was in. Both Josh’s were friendly and got the job done. I would use them again in the future.
OnTime serviced my air conditioner in Spring 2014, and it was an ideal experience. Not only did it turn out my unit was in fine shape, needing no repairs, the service man was super knowledgable and willing to share what he was doing and why. He was prompt and courteous, and didn't push me to buy anything over and above the basic, $89 service. They service all makes and models of AC (mine is a Trane), and they sell Carrier units when replacement is needed. A smart, friendly, local business that puts service and long-term customer relationships over making a quick buck. That's my kind of business.
When something happens in our homes it is sudden and that emergency becomes someone else's urgency. On Time, their team, and specifically, Josh Hoyer, met our urgency. They were there as soon as possible, took it seriously, were calm, knowledgeable, professional, thorough, and courteous. The job with the (serious) leak was taken care of completely and efficiently. Josh even offered several things to do before they got there to continue to be able to use the water. Couldn't recommend this company and its team enough when these emergencies inevitably happen.
