I found Penning Plumbing to be a company I could count on to solve the issue I was dealing with in a courteous, prompt and professional manner. After a thorough inspection of the plumbing problem the plumber explained how to resolve the issue and was out the next day to drill out my basement wall and replace a section of sewer pipe. All in all I found it to be a quality experience.

Availability, yes. 5 stars. Price 0 stars.....I think their pricing is unbelievably out of control and they take advantage of desperate people. I have a system in my rental unit that is a German boiler system, which was about 10K to install originally by Penning Plumbing. In the past 3 years, I have had to invest $4,500 in repairs to keep it in working order and it's only 10 years old. The repair guy today was there for less than 2 hrs and replaced a part that was failing. $1200. That's unconscionable!!

Another story....I had a hot water heater replaced by Penning as well 3 years ago, and the tech thought he could use the old copper flex gas line so no worries. I even told the tech, if I need to replace that line with black pipe, I'll go to Ace Hardware and get the parts and do it myself likely before you return with the new water heater. He thought the existing flex pipe should be fine. That was incorrect, so for $50 in parts (only 6 feet needed of 1/2 inch black pipe gas line) I was charged $600, $100 per foot to "install" black pipe gas line" that I was told I didn't need.

Not happy with their pricing and feeling abused and taken advantage of, but I'm stuck with them because it seems that no one else knows how to deal with this German boiler system in my rental unit.

There you go! My experience, my truth. No lies.

Had a tech come out to look at our gas fireplace. He said he wasn’t the one who typically works on fireplaces but he was in contact with the guy that does. Long story short, he guessed it was the thermopile, and it didn’t fix it. Had a guy out from another company, he said the thermopile was not working and replaced it, after replacing it the fireplace lit right up. I mean it took him 5 minutes. So I called penning and said that the thermopile they put in was faulty. They refuse to give me a refund even on the part. I get that I have to pay the service fee and all that but if you installed a faulty product you should at the very least reimburse me for it. Just unprofessional all around.

We were very pleased with the service which Jeff S. gave us with the installation of our new water heater. He explained the situation clearly and was very prompt in the completion of the job. And beside that he is a very nice guy, very personable.

The BEST customer service ever. We really enjoyed working with Penning and especially Jeff! We will definitely be working with them in the future!! Thanks for warming up our house before the cold comes!

Worst service ever! They came out and spent about 10 minuets looking at the work I was requesting, took a couple of pictures, charged me $70.00 and left. I never got a follow up call or estimate. Nothing!
I was totally ripped off by them. After 6 weeks I did the work myself.

Shame on me for not reading these reviews BEFORE I called Penning. I had just finished fixing a running toilet and a leaky faucet hose myself when two other toilets started running and sink drain got clogged. I figured a plumber could get it done faster than me, and I was willing to pay about $300 to have it all done for me instead of running back and forth to Home Depot and DIYing it. How much would you pay to snake a drain and adjust two toilet tank floats? Over $1800 if you call Penning. Even at the lowest, base rate (ie, they call it the "Bandaid Fix" and there is no warranty for their work) it would have been almost $800. I asked him to leave, but had to pay the $59 service fee. There was no explanation of why the charge was so high, except he did say he would replace the whole tank mechanics. Why??? That's not what was needed, not what I asked for. Total ripoff, and as a single woman I was highly suspicious about how I had just been treated. Now that I've read the other reviews, I see it happens to everyone, so take that into consideration before choosing Penning.

Darrel Y. worked professionally and diligently over two days to get both gas furnace and boiler back up and running after a power surge. In the coldest days of the season, he got one furnace going so we did not have to vacate the house. Then he returned and fixed the boiler. Residential boiler expertise is highly valued and Penning has it - not all heating companies do. The price was as quoted, he had pinpointed both failures accurately. He was cheerful, expert and competent and got us through a difficult event. We recommend Penning PH&C and Darrel highly.

I have been a Penning Plumbing Customer since I purchased my house in 1993. Penning has always been professional, they are licensed and bonded, employees are highly knowledgeable and their work / skill is excellent. They are a little more pricey than others, however the quality of their work is normally well worth the cost. The financial team is very helpful in working with customers in finding payment options that can work within the customer's means (like a Wells-Fargo Home Improvement Credit line with low to 0% financing).
The only thing that stopped a 5-star was that in 2017, after a plastic pipe burst inside of a wall on the 2nd floor, I contracted a huge and expensive project to replace the all existing god-awful plastic pipes with real copper pipes. The reason for this last job of Feb 2019 was because a two foot section of plastic pipe from the kitchen sink water line to the dishwasher apparently was not replaced in 2017...and, of course, it was the garbage plastic pipe that failed, which has now been replaced with copper as should have been done in 2017.
