Just wanna say, because of T-Stats Supply my company has grow in business by 35%, we don't look at them just as a supplier but also a partner, if you should need any parts or HVAC equipment please ask for Mike, great guy and very professional manager....
I'm a homeowner who believes strongly in the right to repair. We recently had our condenser fan motor go out on our air conditioning unit. I diagnosed the source of the fan's malfunction by using a voltmeter to rule out the capacitor and relay being faulty. Now confident that it was indeed the motor that failed, I removed the motor from the mount and fan blade assembly and began searching local businesses for a replacement. This is when I learned of the widespread unwillingness of parts suppliers/wholesalers to sell direct to homeowners. I was told unless I worked for a registered licensed company they would not sell me any HVAC components or parts. Now, while I certainly don't think the average homeowner should be out there recharging their systems with refrigerant or replacing the compressor itself, the fan motor is totally a DIY situation. There's no liability law that says a supplier will be penalized or fined for selling a motor to a homeowner. But there is an almost universal policy to only sell to contractors and resellers, which I find infuriating. T-Stats fortunately does not have this policy but they didn't have the part in stock. So in light of this I decided to call a contractor. The contractor claimed that they would first have to re-verify that the motor was indeed the problem (even though I had already verified that I was getting correct 230 volts output from the relay and capacitor) and stated quite clearly that I would be charged for labor for the diagnosis and the trip to the parts supplier once they verified the fan motor was faulty plus there would be a markup on the cost of the part and then ultimately the labor to install it. I was unwilling to be bent over a barrel in this manner. So, I called back T-Stats, the only supplier willing to sell direct to a homeowner, and they ordered me the part, which will be here in two days. Their customer service was impeccable (Mike especially) the friendliness was unexpected, and while I sincerely hope I don't have to call them again anytime soon, if/when the need arises they will be the first call I make.
