Same Day AC Service

Tech arrived and I told him my problem; ac not cooling, probably missing freon. Yeah tested and told me level of freon is fine, but there would be an obstruction in the line and the coil probably has to be replaced (500 -800), then he went on to tell me my unit would be old anyway and the repair is not a real fix, but I should replace the unit instead (about 7000).
My duct work would be to small for the unit and that might be the reason I have airflow problems, which I don't, because the unit is "old" and worked just fine since I bought the house 2 years ago. Charged drive to house and 1 hour of labor and left without actually working on the unit except opening it and telling me it would be costly.
Called a friend of my "other-mother," my mother in law seems to know everyone useful, and he came over to the house next evening.
He showed me that the freon level was too low and how it should be, for the next time someone wants to screw me over. 40 in the purple gauge for r410a btw.
I paid 120 for everything and will call him from now on.
He told me there is a suspected leak in the coil and he will test it with tracer liquid next time. If leak is in the lines we xan change them, if leak is in the coil we can try to inject a liquid (150) to seal it 50/50 chance, or change the coil. TBC
