Our unit went out late in the afternoon on a Sunday. We decided to look for someone local to West Sac, and called Harris Air early Monday morning. Trent from Harris Air was here within just a few hours. Trent was great at explaining what happened and had the unit up and running in no time. We were also pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the repair was. We will definitely continue to use Harris Air for any future maintenance needs we have for my heating and air. We highly recommend this company.
My AC gave up (blowing warm air) during one of the hottest stretches in CA history along with the craziest wildfire season. Temperatures were floating around 105-110 F and there was smoke/ashes everywhere. I have 3 small children and knew that I needed to get the AC fixed as soon as possible.
I called my friend’s cousin, a HVAC pro, to come out for a diagnostic. The bad news - a blown compressor. The good news - might be covered under warranty. Short story - I purchased a home four years ago and a new AC unit was installed a few months before I moved in. However, the listing agent didn’t have the proof of install. Instead, she referred to Harris Air Mechanical. I spoke to the owner, Robert, which assured me that he’ll get the part warrantied through the local distributor. The labor would have to be covered by me though. I agreed.
I don’t want to break down the bill, but the total was $1200, which included roughly 8.5 lbs of 410A refrigerant. It took Robert roughly 1.5 hours to get the compressor replaced and AC refrigerant charged up. My AC worked fine… Then exactly 1 week later I got the mysterious compressor knocking noise. I texted Robert and he had his guys out in two days to get the issue resolved (I hope). I guess I won’t know because the compressor knocking noise only happened once for a short period of time.
Here is my overall impression:
Robert was fast with communication and he was quick to come out to diagnose and fix the AC compressor issue. He and his guys were professional and no way tried to up-sell like other HVAC companies. What I liked the most is that he offered a 1 year parts and labor warranty on the work that he does. That’s reassuring!
In terms of value - I think Harris Air pricing is right in the middle. I got other quotes on Yelp, and a few other companies came lower while others were higher. I honestly think $1200 for less than 2 hours of work is high but the honesty and fast communication made up for it.
The only thing troubled me for a second was that his workers sent me a bill for $115 after coming back to check on the compressor noise. They stated the charge was to install a Common wire from my Nest Thermostat to my furnace, and to install a delay timer on the outdoor unit. I spoke to Robert on the phone and expressed my thoughts on how I thought this was covered under the original install because no one told me there was going to be a charge. I had to agree to the terms of service on the original install and this time there was no estimate/invoice to agree to. In summary, I told him that if I would’ve known there was going to be a charge then I would’ve just done it myself. He was quick to understand so we settled on paying only $20 for the timer part. Now that’s what you call customer service!
Will I use Harris Air Mechanical again? Definitely! Will I recommend to family & friends? Of course. I was told this is a small business consisting of only three techs. Don’t let that scare you!
We knew our unit was undersized for the unit so when we had extreme heat in Sacramento we called them and they responded quickly with fair pricing. Curious, and cleaned their mess. Unit works great.
We got bids from 3 different contractors and Harris Air was the lowest. They installed a new outdoor AC unit and new furnace in our attic. So it was an all-day job. Robert did a great job, and we are very happy with the new system. We're happy we went with Harris Air.
The crew was very personable and professional. We are very happy with the new system they installed. With the amount of work involved in removing the old ducts and rooftop unit, and then installing the new ducts, and rooftop unit, we were pleased it took them only two days. They cleared away and cleaned, so all we had to do was enjoy the new system.
Harris Heating and Air was responsive, helpful and trustworthy. Explained what was going on, gave me tip and instructions on how to prevent same issues. I did not feel ripped off, I felt value in the service.
Robert from Harris Air was great to do business with. We were planning on buying a traditional AC unit and HVAC system but Robert mentioned a heat pump might be a better option for us. We are very grateful for this recommendation since it is the best fit for our needs. Robert provided a very competitive price quote and phenomenal service.. overall a great value. Robert was able to perform the job in the exact time frame that he promised us. Our new HVAC unit is a huge upgrade and we are very thankful for having picked such an excellent company to work with on this project.
The quote from Harris air was significantly lower than two bids from other companies. He came and completed the project very efficiently. His workers were polite, professional, and cleaned up well after finishing. Highly recommended!
Robert and Trent were right on time, did great work, they were cheerful and quick, and the price was affordable; they charged what they quoted. Nice, knowledgeable, professional. We will definitely call them again!
The repairman showed up a little early. He was very nice. He found the trouble with my AC unit was just a burnt wire. He fixed it and left in under 40 minutes. I was very impressed and would recommend Harris Air to all my friends and family.
