I originally stumbled on this company's phone number two years ago after striking out with several of the bigger-named HVAC services... My furnace was out and they were not able to send someone for days. So luckily I called Sherman's Heating & Air Conditioning, and Mr. Sherman spent a lot of time giving me very detailed and helpful suggestions so that I was able to fix the problem myself. Great diagnostician, perfect solution. I wrote myself a note to call them if we had HVAC problems again. Well last night it dropped into the single digits, and the furnace blew out. And this morning I again got a phone consult which solved the problem. Think of the savings! When I offered to send Mr. Sherman a check in the mail for his time, he said, "No, this is just what we do as a part of good customer service." Wow. Good old-fashioned helpfulness and honesty. Thank you, Sherman's Heating & Air Conditioning!

I can't say enough good things about this company. When I have had HVAC issues, they are always available to help promptly and solve my issues at a very fair price. What's better, before they come out, they will try to help me walk through problems and potential fixes over the phone before having to come out, saving me time and money. They're the ones to call if you need help or have questions about your system.

Called Sherman on a Sunday evening because our heater wasn't turning on. He showed up in a half hour and found the issue and resolved it. Very nice guy, honest, and his prices are lower than anyone.

My wife and I had an air conditioner that had stopped working. We called Sherman to come out and determine it could be repaired or if a replacement was needed. The air conditioner is kept in the back yard in a small fenced in area. The unit and the trash can are both located in the fenced in area. This information was made clear when the service tech was there to inspect the unit. Following an inspection of the unit, it was determined a replacement was necessary.

The new unit (American Standard unit replaced an older Carrier unit) is quite larger than the old unit. The service tech, instead of taking out the old pad and making room for the new pad, placed the new pad partially on the old pad and out onto the stone patio area where the trash can was to be located. The service tech installed the new unit in a place that makes it impossible for the trash can to fit back in its place in the fenced in area.

I have called Sherman's to see if they could come out and move the unit. They are saying I'll have to pay another $500 to have the unit moved back to the original location of the older unit (which is less than 2 feet from its current location).

I will say, if you're looking for expedited service, they made their first visit and installed the unit all within about a 24 hour time span. But if you're looking for a company that's going to respect you as a customer and not cut corners in their work, I'd look elsewhere.

08/06/2013:Yet again, I find myself for the 4th year running have some mid-summer AC issues... Sherman comes out, same day, and quickly resolved my issue for about 1/2 the price of some others I called who could not get out to my house for several days. I simply cannot stress enough how great Sherman AC is for those within his service area. Once we decide to install a new AC, I will definitely make Sherman my first (and most likely only) call.

05/15/2012 update: Turned on AC due to humidity in the air this morning, set thermostat to 76. Came home, house was sitting at 80 degrees, with the outside temp 78. Ugh... the inside fan is turning, but my outside unit was not. I did not have time to mess around with this, so I called Sherman AC as usual to try and set up a time for tomorrow or the day following. This is at 6:15PM... he said he'd be over in 40 minutes. He showed up promptly, and came to my outside unit, walked me through the troubleshooting, replaced a fuse, added some other starting component to try and prevent fuse issues and explained how I could do this myself in the future and what steps to take if the outdoor fan stopped working again. Filled up my AC with some more coolant (an annual or bi-annual occurrence for my older unit), and walked away with an incredibly reason bill. Cannot believe this level of A+ 5 star service still exists.

07/22/2011 initial review: Sherman is the only AC repair I'll ever use again -- I called last year in mid-August right after a heat spell -- he spent about 40 minutes with me going over my system, tell me how to improve effeciency, and how to troubleshoot in the future (in a way, taking away his business, if I don't have to call anyone?!) -- but that's the way Bob is -- he just wants to help you, and isn't trying to rip anyone off. Anyways, in 2010 on August, called at 2pm, after I had two other appointments with companies (they couldn't come until later in the week), called Bob at 2pm, and he was at my door in less than 30 minutes. 40 minutes later, a working AC, and a cheap price, cannot be beat.

So today, now in 2011, in mid-July, again during a heat spell, my AC isn't able to keep up, so instead of waiting for it to freeze up and completely not work, I called him at 5:00p on Friday, and again, 30 minutes later, he's at my door, and walking out 30 minutes later with a working AC. He cannot be beat. If he services your area, I HIGHLY recommend.

Trustworthy, honesty, integrity, and great savings!

We had him repair our home heating system in Alexandria. He offered to fix the problem by phone at no charge and kept costs low when we determined a new part was needed. He arrived on the job within 15 minutes and had the whole problem fixed in 2 hours. So many competitors would have tried to sell us on a new system or missed the fix - not this one.

Very happy with this service. The repairman arrived within the window they'd told me, diagnosed the problem and replaced a part within 20 minutes and for an extremely reasonable price. And when I initially called, they made suggestions for things I could possibly do to determine if the A/C actually needed service. I wouldn't use anybody else.
