Thompson Heating and Air Conditioning is amazing. Thanks to Eric who works there for helping with my large exhaust fan for my kitchen. The box that was built is perfect and it looks great. I appreciate the service that was provided and the quality in workmanship.

Had Thompson solve a number of last minute swamp cooler situations and keep my homeowners cool. Great custom metal work at very reasonable prices. I will call upon them again. As with all good Air conditioning: Don't wait until it's hot - call early and stay cool. Thanks Thompson.

Excellent, caring, professionals who spent the day replacing a 31 yo unit with a more efficient one. Explained everything. Took care of everything without any problems. Wonderful people to work with. I have used them for 31 years and highly recommend them.

all of the team members were professional, efficient, and followed thru as promised. they also let me know when something wasn't possible. They gave me all of the possibilities of how to address the problem. They called ahead, and arrived in the narrow time frame laid out, which is very helpful. My family and I have been doing business with them for over 15 yrs.

I called on a Wednesday at 8:00 am and was put on the schedule for the following Friday between 12-4. I was happy I only had to wait two days since my AC was not working and it was in the 80’s every day. On Friday no one showed up so I called. They had no record of my appointment. They never came. I checked my call log to make sure it wasn’t my mistake. My call log showed their phone number and the date and time. It was not my mistake. The lady that handles phone calls is rude and was unapologetic. This company is completely unprofessional. Schedule with a different company or schedule with two companies so if Thompson’s doesn’t show up then you have a back up.

One of the A/C units at my house in Placitas, originally installed as new construction by Thompson Heating and Air, (recommended by my contractor who I trust), quit during the heat of summer, about two or three months ago. Not knowing anyone in the business at the time, I decided to call the folks that installed it. That was Thompson.
They sent a technician and trainee within a week. First, they turned it on and it worked! Great. Maybe a dirty contact, or whatever. It was 12 years old.
The Tech suggested, and I agreed, to inspect both the outside and inside components, which very much needed cleaning. I helped where I could, but stayed out of the way. They did a good job on the outside unit, finding a condenser that "might not be storing the appropriate voltage" to start up the unit's cooling fan. Minor expense. Good call.
They then sat me down for the full report. According to them, my 12-year old Rheem unit had a Freon 22 leak. After 12 years of operation, it was 7 Pounds low. It had been leaking about 1/2 a pound per year. Maybe damage when installed?
So, it was working again, putting out cold air, the Tech told me that to service it with "old" Freon 22, it would cost me $120 per pound, or $840 for the servicing.
However, they then told me that Freon 22 was being replaced by Freon R410A, and that I needed a new unit, costing, they estimated, $7000.
So, I blinked. They told me that Freon 22 was priced very high because there wasn't much of it left, so supply and demand.........
I believed them and authorized them to service the unit, and that I'd think about a replacement unit.
So, I did a little searching on the internet, and found two local fully licensed and well reviewed HVAC contractors who quoted me $40 for the R-22 per pound, and a conversion price of $500 to the R-410. They told me that it was totally compatible with older units such as mine, and I didn't have to buy a new unit.
To add insult to injury, The original Tech told me that even though they wouldn't work on my old A/C unit they'd put dye into the system to see where the leak was, and return two weeks later to figure out where the Freon 22 was coming out.
Three weeks later, nobody had come out, and I got an invoice for their original visit, asking me to pay the bill, which I had already done. If memory serves, it was around $1200. So I drove from Placitas to their business in Albuquerque for a face to face.
First I asked them if I really had to pay the bill again, after the tech accepted payment on his I-pad at my house after the service call. They checked their computer and determined that I had paid. A little oversight no doubt. No harm, no foul.
Next I inquired where the Tech was that was supposed to check the unit to determine where the leak was. They said, oops, sorry. A little oversight. No harm, no fowl. They'd have a technician out the next day. Sure enough, he showed, peered into the "in house" unit and determined, from merely removing the front cover, that the condenser was leaking. Well, you can't see it by removing the cover. It's way back within the unit, so it was simply B. S. He told us that Thompson would never repair a condenser, and that my unit was too old to be supported by spare parts, so I needed a new one. Fork over $7000. Come to find out, parts are readily available for this unit.
Final Answer: These people lied, overcharged, mis-represented the Freon situation (Over the counter price of Freon 22 is about $20 a pound. Servicing runs about $40 per pound. I felt like the house wife who went to Midas for an oil change, or a lump of hamburger floating in a pool of piranhas.
I've read Thompson's responses to negative feedback. The company culture is low integrity, poor character, and really stains the industry.
    P. S. I'm building a new house. Thompson won't be bothered with a bid request.
