Black lion installed central AC for us in 2021, we had constant issues and both 2022 summer and now 2023 summer, the system just fails to cool. They have not sent anyone for regular service as well. What a waste… :(
Was upsold on a bryant/carrier heat pump and furnace 2018. Since then, had several floods in my utility room. First due to poor electrical; techs installed an outlet for pump tied to a gfi amp that could not carry load. Subsequent fix by qualified electrician. Now I have floods because gravity drain from fins goes straight to the floor on cooling. Suspect because there was no catch pan installed. Figure the "furnace filter" might have obviated that (act as diffuser), but installers did NOT use horizontal furnace filter, installed plumbing over its access, relying on previously installed side electrostatic filter (that they disabled; though I ask them not to do that as I have allergies). Notified Black Lion on previous service; no action taken by management.
Had new high efficiency furnace installed and company installed the exhaust and intake pipes incorrectly. The exhaust pipe was dripping water into the attic as well as blowing the exhaust steam into the attic space. After a section of the ceiling collapsed I called Black Lion and a technician came out to evaluate the situation and stated the exhaust and intake pipes were installed incorrectly, the exhaust pipe was venting into the attic rather than outside the home. The technician fixed the issue on the time of evaluation. However, there was extensive mold damage to the attic space and eventual water damage that caused a section of the ceiling to collapse (repair is estimated to be $8,400). In working with Black Lion to have a resolution to the mold damage to the attic and ceiling they have denied any wrong doing with the installation due to roofers installing a new roof and claiming that the roofers must have done something to alter the functioning of the furnace installation. No one has touched the furnace since it was installed by Black Lion. They have chosen to not take responsibility for the incorrect installation.
Joey and Cole did awesome job installing new water heater and new furnace! They came on time, did careful measurement, and finished the job quickly. They provided me concrete and helpful suggestions when I wanted to add new vent in the bedroom. They also helped me install Nest Thermostats while I was out for food. The only thing is they really shouldn't skip lunch for their hard work :) Jamie also deserves an applause. He provided lots of advice when he came to get an estimate and he explained in very much details about different systems. ---- It's been two years since my first review. I still strongly recommend to use their services. Mac came to do the maintenance today and went beyond and taught me so much about how air flow works in our house and what our furnace is capable of. Wish I could give 6 stars. Also shout out to Jamie who's always helpful and responsive.
Thank you Black Lion for providing great service to our almost 50 year old furnace. Mac, the technician, quickly identified and solved the problem. We were at our wits end trying to find someone who would service such an old furnace and he went above and beyond. Hope to purchase the new furnace from you soon!
If I were rating just the technician he would get 5 stars. He was professional, courteous and efficient. As far a Black Lion as an organization, unless I have to for warranty purposes, I will not use them again - zero stars I called on a Thursday morning after our 6 year old furnace (installed by Black Lion) would not work. Was told that Monday noon (4+ days) was the soonest they would come. (Night time temperatures were in the 30’s) I explained we had no furnace heat and asked if something could be done sooner. I was told sorry that was the earliest. I then verified that since I had purchased the furnace from Black Lion parts and labor were covered under warranty at no cost. I was told yes. This tracked with what we were told when they originally installed the furnace in November 2016. A day later on Friday, I received a call from Black Lion verifying the Monday appointment. Again I asked if both parts and labor were covered as Black Lion had installed the furnace and was told yes. In the end I was charged $195 for diagnostic fee, $255 for an hour of labor. No charge for the broken inducer. It took the technician less than 10 minutes to open the furnace, read the error code and determine the inducer was ceased. The technician completed the inducer installation in less than 30 minutes. He also pointed out that the exhaust piping in the furnace was incorrectly installed (by Black Lion) so he fixed that at no additional charge. In the end I paid $490+ for labor that took less than 30 minutes which I had been told at the time of purchase and when I called was covered under warranty.
Oustanding, I repeat, OUTSTANDING service. We needed a C vent to get fixed since it had a hole. It is connected to our furnace and water tank. Quick back story......in describing what we needed to other heating companies, many said they didn't know how to do it. Then......we had this other one company come out, offer an outrageous solution for something else we did not need. Finally, per the suggestion of Arrow Insulation (another FANTASTIC company), we called Black Lion per their suggestion. Luckily they came as quick as the next day. Brad our technician was awesome, kind, professional, knowledgeable, helpful attitude, taught us a lot, went above and beyond in inspecting the whole situation and met our needs. Fantastic company. Super reliable. Highly recommend. Terrific and caring service for fair prices. Will use them again in the future! Thank you Black Lion! We couldn't ask for a more perfect service today. You guys are the best!
installed a new 50a circuit for an EVSE unit. Timely scheduling, response, appointment on-time, pricing, quality of work, work efficiency. In and out in minimal time. No changes to estimate/cost. Best combination of cost, quality, reliability, workmanship, and safety/compliance. Personal opinion based on this experience.
This was a repair call for a new gas furnace and heat pump retrofitted installation within the first month of installation by Black Lion. The gas furnace was issuing error alerts through the online monitoring system. Turns out the furnace sagged a bit after installation, so that one of the right-angle ductworks started accumulating condensation water which the pump could not evacuate. In turn the fan system detected an obstruction in the way (the standing water), so it triggered the alert. The root cause is a mistake in installation and lack of thorough testing by the Black Lion installation team. But the Black Lion service team correctly identified and resolved the error entirely under warranty. The resolution was simply to lift up the furnace back in the proper alignment with additional support straps. The second issue is that the new system was prioritizing the gas furnace over the heat pump, even when both the exterior temperature was suitable for heat pump operation and there was not a significant temperature gap to catch up. As a result, the daily running cost monitor was showing a 5x gas cost over the electrical cost when not user-overridden to force the heat pump to operate solo. I.e., the system was not running efficiently. The root cause is faulty programing logic by Bryant. The issue was compounded by the lack of testing by the installation team. The repair technician from Black Lion was able to mitigate the issue through clever tweaking of the temperature block thresholds to force the system to operate the heat pump exclusively when within ideal outside temperature range.
I have been a customer for 9 years. Replaced the furnace 2 times now. First Bryant replacement due to fatigue of old one. 2nd replacement due to faulty Bryant unit according to Black Lion. Also added AC unit. Then replace AC unit with heating pump AC combo. Spent over $50k with $36k over the last 2years. Annual servicing. This past year has been awful service and again faulty equipment. Lack of care or response by Black Lion. Never replaced filters or dropped off spare filters that I paid. I have been completely ripped off. Sent emails to Bryant and looking for a new HVAC company to fix out system. Barely heated the house before Christmas when it was cold. Never have written a review this poor in my life but felt the need to make others aware. Follow up! A Bryant recommend residential HVAC contractor came out and inspected my furnace and Heat pump/Air conditioner. They immediately determined the installation was not to specifications and incomplete. Top of the line 3stage most efficient furnace for large home with top of the line heat pump AC. Filter box was too small and furnace mounted on the floor instead of on top of a box spacer. Thus too little or no proper air returns with a small filter box and a too thin/small filter. Furnace was sped up to push as hard as it could due to constriction causing lots of wear and tear and energy consumption. A twisting condenser piping for water is problematic. But the topper is that the gas was turned off thus only the heat pump running. Starting at 40degree weather and below little to no heat produced in the house. Huge issue in our weather. Finally they never calibrated the gas output which would cause the furnace to overheat at the setting found. Might explain not turning on the gas. Beware! I’m on an annual service agreement and was a great trusting customer. Learned my lesson and it’ll cost me big to repair and fix the installation to correct specifications. Never received a call back from Black Lion and t
I took the day off for my anual heat pump service that was scheduled by Samantha since early June for today (7/25/22). Not only was Black Lion a no show, no return calls or apology. It obvious by the lack of professionalism and communication, Black Lion doesn't value return business. Since early August I have left multiple emails and voicemails for Sara Miller and Benjamin Ward that have never been answered. Update: 1/20/2023, still no return call or apologies. I don't recommend doing business with Blak Lion.
Update 2: 3 -> 1 It's been about a year and they still haven't managed to get the heat pump / AC working properly. In addition to their incompetence, their services is horrible. They rarely answer the phone, the don't return calls or service requests from their web site and in general give the impression that they are annoyed by their customers and that one should be grateful for them even giving the time of day. Had one no show (of course without any call from them or even an apology) and one 9:00AM scheduled visit show up at 4:00PM (again, no call or apology). It was a mistake using their services. Update: 5->3 stars because of their service. Had a problem during the winter (Furnace won't come on) and they weren't able to schedule anyone for over a week. Now, our new AC isn't colling down the house well. I waited for a month for a technician and because the valve and unit were frozen, they have to wait for it to thaw. They scheduled a revisit in a week (i.e. be without AC for a week during a heatwave) after the unit thaws. They are all nice and I believe they are doing their best, but the results are unsatisfactory. New AC isn't working and service takes forever. I bought a heatpump from blacklion and had it installed yesterday. Installation got postponed a few times, but I believe this is because of the supply chain problems and not their fault. Their sales person was professional, gave me a few options and worked with me to overcome delivery problems. Their offer was competitive (got 2 other quotes) Their installers were on time, professional and very courteous. They were very transparent with what they are going to do and what to expect from the heatpump (vs. a furnace). Took care of things like caulking around the holes the made for the pipes or securing pipes well to the ceiling. Walked me through the various configuration options on the thermostat. I am waiting for the permits and inspection, so can't comment on that aspect, but I'm very happy with all the
I scheduled my entire holiday travel plans around my appointment that I had to make 5 weeks ago. Day of appointment they missed the original window given to me so I called them (they never called me day before to confirm the appointment was still on, per my original request). When i called today to ask if i was still on the schedule they said my window was 12-2, so I rescheduled the rest of my day & gave them benefit of the doubt. When i scheduled i had a 10-12 noon window; I put it in my calendar immediately. It's 5pm day of appt and no technician ever showed up. When someone has to deal with a 5 week lead time & has to call the company day of appointment to confirm if they're still coming, but they still don't show, then consider these RED FLAGS! I think they only want to install new units, not maintain them. If they call me back, reschedule, and show up I'll gladly update this review. Otherwise I have to find another company. Anyone know of a good HVAC tech company?
When I decided I wanted to get a mini split system for my townhome, I got three quotes. Reps from 3 different companies came to my house. Of the 3, Jamie from Black Lion was by FAR the most appealing. He was warm and knowledgeable and not pushy at all. The other reps kept trying to upsell me and were disparaging of other companies which was a huge turnoff for me. Jamie was able to beat the other quotes with even better equipment and an install the next day! The crew that came over for the install was incredible. I didn't catch all of their names but Kevin and Renzo were both really sweet and friendly. They did the work faster than expected which was great (I thought they might need to come back a second day) and I could tell the work was done really well. I am so so so pleased with the work and with Black Lion in general. Jamie is incredibly responsive to messages and I have recommended him and Black Lion to several friends already. The company was understaffed for a long time, hence the previous comments about difficulty with communication. This is NOT something I experienced. In fact, I asked Jamie about it and he was totally open about it being something they had discussed as a team and were working to improve. I am so glad I chose Black Lion for this service and I will definitely continue to sing their praises!
Had good experience with them in the past, but I’ve been struggling to get a response from them for a week now. They installed a new furnace last year which is not coming on this year. Getting colder fast. Will update my review when I hear back from them. Wish me luck.
I would give rating zero if google allows. Stay away from this dishonest and scamming business. They did no permit work and failed to provide even a permit application number after follow up for 7+ months after our ac installation even we have paid in full including permit cost. It is called scandal when a company charged customers for a service but they don’t deliver and not even responsive or simply provide a permit application number after multiple follow ups from customers for That long period, including their owners and governors. The installation is not subject to code and not meeting permit requirement. I have followed up with the city and they don’t receive any permit application for my AC installation from black lion and black lion is just constantly lying and keep fooling customers by saying follow up with their permit department. Not sure why this type of business and operation exists. To be fair, I have used black lion 8 years ago for ac installation and back then it was great. This type of business should be out of business to not hurt any customers safety and trust, most importantly, too scamming customers by charging customer for service they don’t deliver and constantly lying and pushing blames without providing a simple solution.
Outstanding service! Black Lion does what they say they will do, which may be rare these days! In Dec 2021, Black Lion installed a new HVAC system for us. Unfortunately, the new system did not warm our house adequately. When it was cold outside, our indoor temps did not get above the lower- or mid-60s. Black Lion was extremely diligent about sending service techs out to analyze the situation and even sending manufacturer's reps out to provide their expertise. By summer 2022, Black Lion determined that the manufacturer had over-promised and under-delivered on this new unit -- a problem that's not unusual. What Black Lion did next was unusual, in my book: They volunteered to replace the entire system with a better one, at no cost. They did not scrimp in any way, replacing everything including the thermostat. Throughout this process, their communications were professional, their service techs were diligent, and now we have a new HVAC system that works the way it should. Kudos to Black Lion and sales mgr Jamie Khorrami for providing superb service and delivering what you'd expect when you buy a new HVAC system.
Black Lion used to provide high quality levels of service. Sadly, not anymore. Had my recent annual service, and the tech did not put my ac unit back together properly and left it no longer working. Despite calling them for a month, they would not even return my calls. I ended up fixing it myself. When I finally spoke to someone in the office, they could not have cared less. The tech also missed a blown fuse on one of my heat exchangers. Doesn’t get more basic than that, considering how much they charge for a simple, regular servicing.
Black Lion has the most professional staff of any business I have dealt with in the past. I could not have hoped for better care than they provided!! Great Company!!!
I got this company through Home depot. They replaced the heating system and and installed a new heat pump/ac system. The first time they came out they left massive gaps in the system so we were mainly heating and cooling the garage. They came back again and found the wires were not installed right and very messy. The heat pump was on back order and when they came back a year after installing the heating system they did not try to level the system. I had to hold their hand on how to level it. I had to loan them my tools because they did not have a level. I called back and ask for some sort of compensation for all of the issues and they refused. Do NOT use this company. They will only leave you with a bunch of problems.
