If you're on the fence about geothermal, I'd recommend going for it. If you care about the Earth and/or care about your wallet, this system is for you. If you are patient, as the process takes months from start to finish, this is for you. If you appreciate top notch customer service and a company at the top of its game, call Dandelion. I know the cost seems daunting, I get it, but the cost of financing my geothermal is $80 less a month than last year's propane budget and, while propane will certainly rise in cost over the following years, my loan payment never will. I mean, why would anyone NOT get this system installed? Seriously? Thank you Dandelion!

PS- You ever stand near your central air unit, while it labors away midsummer, and feel the heat radiating from it? Well, Dandelion uses that energy to preheat the water entering your hot water tank! Pretty dang cool (pun intended).

Update: 3/28/2021 Make sure you insulate your ductwork when they recommend it. I didn’t, as I’d forgotten, and the delta between a room upstairs and one downstairs was 8 degrees during heating season. A half a day spent insulating the ducts brought the delta to <1 degree. Make sure you listen to what they tell you!

We had been interested in installing geothermal but a previous quote was way too expensive and involved coordinating too many separate contractors. Dandelion managed the entire process, and at a lesser cost. The entire installation didn't go completely smoothly, and there are a lot of steps, but they were there at every step and made sure everything was done correctly. The house has been warmer and more consistent in the winter. The AC in the summer was super cold and worked much better than the old traditional condenser unit. Very happy to not be burning oil anymore.

Overall I am very satisfied with Dandelion and with my heat pump. If you are in need of a new HVAC system you need to consider geothermal. The system works great and I don’t have to deal with oil companies anymore. Dandelion was honest about the costs and the disruptions involved (such as to your lawn). Also the customer service post installation has been good.

I gave a 4/5 because my installation was not a typical installation and was done by a contractor instead of Dandelion and because of that there were some installation issues (such as cosmetic damage). To Dandelion’s credit they paid for the resolution of those issues.

Beware the sales pitch and false promises. Their FAQs on timeline for the overall process are wrong. I talked to them about getting a new geothermal system installed and I asked specifically for a timeline before I signed anything and confirmed that there was no fee to use a credit card as payment (so I can get the cashback rewards, which is around $500). I was told that it would take 6-8 months (back in April) and there was no fee, so I agreed to pay for the system in cash vs. a loan. I sign a bunch of paperwork and send in my initial payment of $3000 to get the process started within 24 hours of that call. I then get assigned an account manager who immediately tells me that it will actually take around 13 months, which means I now need to pay for this system and another winter of oil expense I wasn't expecting (projecting around $4000). I explain how that timeline is not was I was originally told and they just said sorry, but that's the timeline. 1 month later, they tell me that they are adding a processing fee to all credit card payments, so now I'm out another $500 because they didn't even bother to grandfather in existing contracts. So far I am 2 months into the process and all I have gotten is emails stating basically "too bad, so sad", an initial inspection where I was told my house was the easiest he has ever inspected and I should have a shortened timeline due to how straightforward it is, and a final design 2 months later telling me everything the inspector already knew and told me. Took them 2 months to tell me that they are drilling right where the salesman said they would and are putting the air pump exactly where my current heat pump is with no changes to my ductwork...2 months. I am only giving 2 stars because the inspector was on time and professional, but might have to drop the star if the rest of the process is this bad.

Edit: was told more lies and am now in a 6 month waiting period for them to do the interior install (a 2 day job according to their website) and the trenching crew that came dropped a boulder on a $300 tree snapping it in half. Currently trying to contact someone at Dandelion for compensation, but they ignore all my calls.

Edit #2: finally got compensation for the tree and had the interior install. Left lots of damage, grease on the carpets, and trash all over my house and yard. Told me I can't prove the damage was done by them so they won't pay for it. Nothing about this company is improving my opinion of them.

We recently decided to talk to Dandelion about geothermal, but since we did not have ductwork we first asked if ductless was an option, first we were told not at this time, that it was a pilot, and then shortly thereafter it was a yes. I proceeded to take pictures of the property, do the sales call etc. The sales person was extremely nice and knowledgeable, we received the contract but waiting a few weeks since we had other events happening. I reach out to the salesperson to ask a few questions before I sign only to be told that the ductless option was no longer offered because it took too long to install and was complex. Even if I signed, the contract would have been terminated. Dandelion is definitely missing a huge chunk of the market with not offering ductless. I believe their mission is definitely spot on and geothermal is an option, but only if you have the ductwork. They need to better scale their business, unfortunately I cannot proceed and will have to find alternatives.

Google Forbes and Dandelion or Newsday and Dandelion and check out their article before contracting with them.
Its been a nightmare, they made mistakes in regards to the overall design of my system, which required them to add additional dutcwork leading the loss of half of a closet, a basement full of ductwork which looks like it belongs in an office building. The system is poorly sized, loud, the force of the air is strong and is not saving me any money.
I wanted to love them, they look flashy with their apps and design team, but don't know what they are doing. They are too big, too fast. the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing
You are better off with a local company that doesn't contract out and has the experience. Its ok that they don't have a flashy website.

BUYER BE WARE: I signed a contract in March of this year. Plan was to have installation July/Aug. First sign of trouble was that they didn't have the staff to do the initial site survey - they had to hire someone!! Next: Design was suppose to be delivered within 4 weeks - which then changed to 8 weeks - which became close to 12 weeks. Had to submit changes to the design (asked to speak to the person working on my design and was denied - had to submit changes in writing). Waited over 4 weeks and never got the changes back. Permits came in and I was told it would be up to THREE MONTHS to have the drilling start!! That would put us at Dec - still not updated design!
Received an email last week that they are no longer doing ductless and BTW - we are cancelling your contract! So after investing over 8 months with these knuckleheads, they decided it was too hard/expensive to do the work THAT THEY CONTRACTED TO DO - boo hoo!!
Don't trust a word they they tell you. They cannot be trusted to keep their commitments.

Everything about my experience with Dandelion was great. After having my geothermal system for just over one year, I can say that their predictions as to the amount of electricity and fuel oil I would save were very accurate. They helped arrange the financing for the system and were very helpful when it came time to file my taxes and claim my tax credit. The system itself was practically a plug and play replacement for my existing air handler and keeps our house very comfortable, both warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Their install and support crews have been courteous, professional and efficient. I recommend Dandelion to anyone considering a geothermal system.

Used dandelion to update the oil furnace and hot water heater in my 1950's house to geothermal. With their new drill rig, they were able to access my rocky backyard and do the install. Great to not have an oil tank and oil bills anymore, and now I have a modern system that maintains my home at a much more uniform temp than the old furnace did. Electric bill up only incrementally over before. The drilling etc was obviously not quick but the changeover from the old system to the new took about 48 hours.

Beware of Dandelion Energy (especially in WNY)!! They lied and misrepresented themselves nonstop from the beginning. They continually led us on for 8 months, lying about just about every aspect of the project while alternating between refusing to even respond in a timely manner, to making up excuses and stalling. Then out of nowhere cancelled our contract citing geology issues and business changes. Absolutely the worst, least professional experience I've ever had with ANY company, and completely shameful given the price of what they're supposed to be selling/providing. I can't stress enough how awful of a company this is and how inept and dishonest their employees are on every level. Even their good reviews often cite an awful process, delays, cost increases over their own quotes, etc etc etc.

Do yourself a favor and shop around for an experienced local geothermal installer, not these bait and switch scammers.
