If you’re shopping around looking for a professional heating and cooling company. S T O P !!
You should use Richard’s Heating & Cooling. Without a doubt!

I’ve been using them for years. Always been satisfied.

Just had a new Air handler and Condensor installed. Installed perfectly. Friendly crew. Explained everything with great detail. When they were done, I received a phone call that it was complete and everything was cleaned up. I watched the job on my home camera. They even let my dog out for a few minutes. I COULDN’N BE HAPPIER.

Call them for your next heating and cooling needs. You’ll be glad you did.

Richard’s Cooling and Heating are the best on Long Island and is one of the very few that I trust doing work for me. Honesty and sincerity is their secret with me. I’ve been dealing with them for more than 10 years .. and never had a problem - always go out of their way to help out

I was having issues with my boiler as it was producing hot water, but no heat. I called an acquaintance who works in HVAC to come take a look at the problem as I thought I could trust him over some company that I wasn't familiar with. He told me he'd probably be out to take a look at it the following afternoon and would get back with me to let me know for sure. I never heard back from him; he even drives past my house every day. After growing frustrated, I searched online for reputable companies. I'm a single mom who could very easily be viewed as someone who could be taken advantage of. After seeing five stars across the board, I decided to take my chances. I made the call about 5 after 9am and the very friendly voice on the other end (wish I could recall his name to give credit where credit is due) told me that someone would be out by noon that same day and that someone would be calling me to confirm. At 9:14, I received a call from Will that he was on his way. The whole process took a bit over an hour from my first call. As it turned out, it was just a loose connection in my thermostat. Will made sure the heat was flowing from my radiators, double checked the boiler and was very polite, accomodating, honest and professional. I was so impressed with the friendliness, punctuality and service I'd received from this company that I felt very confident in scheduling a routine tune up and cleaning which will take place next week. I'm very satisfied and very happy that I didn't receive the callback from my "acquaintance" and that I found Richard's Heating and Cooling. Thanks Will!

I can't say enough nice things about this company. 14 years ago they installed a peerless boiler with a Reillo burner and my oil consumption cut in half. In addition to the tax break I received, it literally paid itself off within 2 years. And it still saves me hundreds of dollars a year. I have them tune it up every year or 2 since, and no problems. It heats my house and has the technology to give me running hot water without an additional water heater. No contract and no need to go with a contract from a overpriced oil company that rips you off and doesn't deliver the same service. Friendly staff from the phone to the door. Thanks Richard.

I had an emergency - the copper tubing from my oil filter to my oil burner sprung a leak. Not only that, but the shut off valve from the oil tank went bad. On top of all of that, the oil burner had been shutting off after about 1/2 hour - 45 minutes, which is what started this mess.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

I had tried to clean the oil filter, thinking it might be the cause of the shutoff problem. I didn't have a new one, so I took the old one apart and cleaned it all off. I put it back together, but it leaked a bit. While doing so, I turned the oil tank shut off valve too far, breaking the valve stem. Not knowing that, I turned the valve to "off" and loosened the filter - WHAM! Oil everywhere! I lifted the filter to try and get a good angle, managed to get it on correctly, and thought "that's done!"

That's when I saw the pinhole leak in the copper tubing. Whoever put the system together had bent the tubing up at a right angle to the boiler, causing a crimp. You can't really crimp copper. Lifting the filter had caused that crimp to spring a pinhole leak, which was now spurting oil over the floor. Panicking, I had my friend put his finger over it while I ran to Home Depot, where I was basically told I was screwed.

I called Richards. Richard advised me to crimp the tubing to slow the leak, which eventually I managed to do. The next morning, Ryan came by and replaced the tubing, put in a new filter and points, and tried to put in a new shut off valve. Unfortunately, the guy who originally put it together cross-threaded the connection, so he had to put the new valve just before the filter (he couldn't just replace the old valve, as I had over 100 gallons in the tank.)

Ryan warned me that the reset module (Honeywell Protecto Relay) seemed to be cutting out. He was right.

This morning, the burner wouldn't start at all. I called Richard, and knowing my financial situation and the fact that I'm pretty handy, he said I could get a new one at Home Depot and replace it myself. I did, but the one I got turned out to be defective (Note: NEVER get anything from Home Depot if the tape is broken!) Got another one, burner started right up. But:

The female part of the compression valve by the broken shut off valve was leaking, very slowly. It was cross threaded, remember? So just replacing the female connection wasn't an option. Back comes Ryan, and things are looking dim.

From the depths of his tool box, he pulls out an old, much used valve. Since it was a bit worn, the threads were able to "jump over" the cross threaded male part of the defective shut off valve, and from there he got a nice tight fitting. All done, no leaks, the system works perfectly.

Could a national chain have done this? Could a company that didn't care about its customers?

Nope. They would have said "we'll have to do xxx, plus yyy, $1000 please."

Richards was not only fair in price, but they were caring and worked hard to solve a problem that was not of their making. Do I recommend them? If you need help from people who know what they're doing, the only answer can be a very loud "YES"!
