Swan Associates

Not a customer per se, but experienced a poor employee of Swan Associates in Newington that left me with a bad impression. I observed a black man who was standing on a Town of Newington sidewalk, trying to enjoy some combustible tobacco, when this rather nosey and irate woman driving an entry model Subaru pulled into an employee parking spot at Swan Associates, and exited her vehicle coughing—the typical fake cough given to rather obscenely communicate to the smoker. He said nothing to her as she continued to force herself to cough—most likely causing more damage to her lungs and vocal chords than any risk of 2nd hand smoke from his cigarette 20 to 60 feet from her, being carried away by the wind in the direction opposite of her. This kind of vigilante policing, driven by the unfounded assumption that his right in a public place is inferior to hers, is exactly the kind of thing we need less of these days. Unfortunately for the company, I was on the phone with my wife who’s VP of procurement for a hospital system that had used Swan as a vendor for a long time. An over-reaching employee like that is often indicative of a larger organizational issue. I was appalled by her behavior; but commend the tobacco using man for playing it so cool—as this vigilante Subaru lady was clearly unaware of what he’s responsible for in the fortune 50 building next door.
