A-1 installed a heat pump and a heat pump water heater in 1 day in my 1920's Berkeley, CA house even though they had scheduled the work for 2 days. They arrived on time with 3 men in 3 vans. They were an experienced crew and just knocked the work out. I'm a retired California building contractor (CA license #564114 expired, Phelps Construction Company) so I did some minor preliminary work before A-1 arrived to help them out. Matt the estimator was responsive and really worked with me.

I'm very satisfied with their work so far even though we have not needed the heat pump yet.

A-1 was the cheapest of the reputable contractors I contacted. A-1 beat Hassler who had the next lowest bid by over $5000. I don't see anything listed in the Hassler contract that was worth an extra $5K. A-1 got the bid to me in 1 day. Hassler took 19 days!

Our central air stopped working and A1 sent Briant out the next day to fix it. He is a very nice man and he diagnosed the problem. He had the part with him to fix it. We are so glad we chose A1 to install our furnace and air conditioning. It was several years ago but was still under warranty so no charge. Thank you A1. You guys are great!

My heating and air cond. were installed 17 years ago, and has been serviced by A-1. This company is absolutely the best at everything. Their service is excellent, the technicians are polite and are thorough in explaining what was done. I think a company like this is amazing in every aspect of its business.

Erik Gomez came on time and was very professional and courteous. I told him of a similar issue in the past when a bird (crow) dropped a piece of bone in the vent pipe leading to the heater blower and it jammed the motor. He immediately inspected the motor and found that that is the case again. After he removed the object, the system came back normally. I'm very satisfied with Erik and A-1. Keep up the good work!

I hired A-1 Guaranteed Heating & Air to install an air conditioner for me last summer. I'm very satisfied with the job they did. One of the programs they offer their clients is to go on a monthly "subscription" plan with them and you get your air conditioner as well as heater serviced twice a year. There are additional benefits with this program as well. I just had my second service and continue to be very impressed with this company from the people working in the office to their technicians. Brian was the technician and he did an excellent job. I would definitely recommend this company.

We had an old forced-air gas furnace that we knew we'd need to retire soon, and got 3 estimates for replacing it with a heat pump. The pricing varied a lot, and if you do this, make sure you get a number of estimates, and definitely include A-1. I chose them in part because I saw them at a City of Berkeley home electrification expo in 2019: they seemed very knowledgable and experienced; and also because of recommendations on NextDoor. Kirk was our sales person and was extremely knowledgeable and low-pressure. I went back and forth with him about whether we needed to replace our ductwork (other bidders suggested it; A-1 did not), and he was very patient with my questions. They do a pretty comprehensive assessment of the house in terms of existing insulation, windows, square footage, etc., in order to properly size the system. The install was great- very professional and friendly crew (incl. COVID protocols, etc.). I asked them at the last minute to install some earthquake straps to secure the outside compressor/evaporator unit, which they gladly and ably did. They were able to use existing electrical conduits, minimizing impact to the exterior of our home. Soon it was supplying us heat, but we didn't get any AC. So they sent out a tech immediately to carefully troubleshoot and at the end of the day, they resolved the issue. Permitting was super easy too- the city knows them well and it was very smooth. A-1 were super organized with scheduling and paperwork. We're very pleased with the final product- we have an inline filter which is a lot easier to replace than in the ceiling-mounted intake; and it's a lot quieter inside. My only nit was our pull-down ladder got damaged during the install- it was pretty old- and they offered to work with us to replace it. Overall communication has been great.

It's a family-run business, and they certainly deserve the high ratings they have. We will definitely put them on the short list for a next job if we have one.

I had scheduled a tune up of our furnace on Nov. 19 and the technician was suppose to arrive between 11 and 1. At a little before 11, I receive a call from Brian and he says he will be doing the service and that he is 10 minutes out. Promptly at 11 he arrives, which I truly appreciate as no one likes waiting. I'll keep it short, but Brian did a thorough inspection of the unit, found what issues were there and then went over them in detail with me regarding the unit. What I liked is that he didn't try to sell me anything, but told me what to be aware of and, in the future, they can repair/replace what was needed. He also wore booties when he went inside our home, which shows me what a professional he was. When the time comes, we'll be sure to call them again.

My wife and I wanted to replace our natural gas furnace with a Fujitsu mini-split heatpump HVAC system. We looked up and contacted a number of HVAC companies to discuss the work and get quotes. After meeting with six companies that we'd contacted, we chose A-1 Guaranteed Heating & Air for several reasons. The sales representative Kirk responded promptly to our inquiry, was knowledgeable about the system we were interested in, was courteous and professional, and the price A-1 quoted was reasonable. They were able to schedule the work in a reasonable amount of time. First Nick measured all the rooms in the house and properly size the system. Then a few weeks later, the work foreman Roger and his crew, who again were all very knowledgeable and professional, removed the old heater, and installed new system in a single day. The system works great to both heat and cool the house, is virtually silent, and will reduce our annual natural gas use by about 50%. We're very happy with the work that A-1 did for us, and with our new HVAC system.
