Long story short, I highly recommend Shafer Services for your plumbing needs both big and small. This review relates to a big one. This Spring, some leaks were detected under our 60-year-old home that required a full replacement of the drainage system under the house. This was a massive project that called for the installation of a two-way cleanout drain, excavation of under-house tunnels totaling 46 ft, the removal and replacement of the existing cast iron pipe system with PVC and refilling the under-house cavities with the previously excavated materials. I was dreading the project, beside having gotten a jaw-dropping estimate and extremely invasive scope of work from the first leak detection company sent by our home insurer, a neighbor had had a similar project in mid-stream which had come to a standstill two months before with a mound of dirt and concrete pipes sitting on the front lawn with very little activity each day. When I called Shafer Services, which has been my plumbing and HVAC company for over 10 years, John came out to evaluate the situation, run some tests, and start setting up a game plan, the first of which was to get another leak detection test to confirm the earlier results. While I thought this might be a duplication of effort and expense, the first company's report contained an obvious error and was somewhat incomplete because two-way cleanup drains were not required 60 years ago, and the pressure tests and video required for an accurate evaluation could not be accomplished. Shafer sent out T.C. Carey who did an excellent job in pinpointing all our leaks and confirming that the best option was to replace the drains. John followed up, developed a work plan that was much less invasive and resulted in a better price than the first company. The work began as scheduled and was completed 3 weeks and 1 day after its beginning during some of the hottest days we've had this summer. 7/5/23: our tech, JP, arrived early, immed diagnosed the reason for leak, fixed it quickly, and suggested preventive actions. As always, ☆☆☆☆☆ for Shafer and the co's professional team members. (earlier review) Our tech Michael called ahead, was on time, immed IDed the issue, explained the procedure and why necessary, completed the task and offered tips a/c-heat operation when weather changes. Michael is highly knowledgeable, professional, courteous. We've been Shafer customers for almost 20 years and that will not change!
Ishmael is a true professional. I had purchased a new commode, water line, and all necessary supplies to replace the existing commode. Ishmael quickly diagnosed the issue, and recommended not replacing the existing one, returning to home improvement saving me money. He briefed me of 3 options to correct the broken drain. I believe he completed the entire service call in less than 3 hours. He is a master plumber. I was so impressed, I knew immediately that Shafer Services would be my go-to provider in the future. I will ask for Ishmael.
I'm giving the company this rating because of their pricing, not the work product. What I was quoted to put in a kitchen faucet was much higher than 2 other quotes. It was a simple job that took the plumbing company we hired less than 30 minutes. I have used Shafer in the past, which is why I contacted them but won't in the future.
My tech was knowledgeable, friendly and communicated clearly.

I called Shafer because I originally scheduled with another AC with an usual name starting with a G. That company cancelled on me once after waiting a week for that appt. Then they stated the next appt would have to be 30 days out because of emergencies...Wow, 30 days of emergencies. So I called Schafer they said they can be there in 2 days...DEAL. Dustin was polite, respectful and did a great job. I know who I will be calling from now on for my AC issues.

This is the second time I’ve used Shafer for major services and installation. They have been quick to respond, timely with scheduling, reasonable and sensitive with payment options, consistent with follow ups and do clean work. Andy, our technician, is always welcome here.
My compressor went out and they came out and replaced my entire AC the day after I contacted them. Service was fast and professional. Now my system is not cooling my home very well and I called to have a tech come out and check but supposedly I only had a complimentary maintenance plan when I purchased this system with a 10 year warranty. And they claimed they tried to contact me but I have every email and can track every call. No one contacted me. This system cost me $15,000
Really enjoyed the service provided by the Shafer team. They showed up on time, explained what they were going to do and got straight to work. They engaged us in certain parts of the project by asking us questions (if we approved or not), getting our sign-off instead of assuming or making decisions to do certain things on their own. We were pleased with the results and would definitely work with them again in the future if needed.
Shafer responded to my request to check non cooling HVAC system immediately/same day and within a few short hours. Given how swamped they and all AC companies must have been in 100+ degree days, I was very grateful. Abraham, the technician who came out, worked promptly and efficiently as he checked out all possible problem areas until he determined the correct fix. My deep appreciation to Abraham for his hard, hard, very hot work and for doing it all with a smile, too!
We were customers of Braune AC Service for years. This is the first time we had to call Shafer Services Plus due to our AC system being OUT! The paper we had said call 24/7. I called Sunday evening, but, could only leave a message. The prompt on their phone said they would call when in the office the next day. I heard nothing and called them back Monday about 8:30am. We were told they would send a repair person on Tuesday between 8am and 10am and we were the first person on the schedule. Benjamin, our repairman, called after 9am to tell us he was on his way. I guess we were not the first on his schedule. Benjamin was very knowledgeable and kind. The problem was diagnosed and promptly fixed. I know that the change between Braune AC Services and Shafer Services Plus is difficult on us. I don't know if Braune AC Services could have come Monday to repair our problem...I want to think so. I know that Benjamin said he is working many hours and I appreciate his dedication to the customers. I wish Shafer Services was local...dealing with someone in San Antonio is different. We are happy our AC system is fixed...100 degree weather is upon us! Thank you!
Chase Anderson and his crew did a fantastic job on complicated plumbing that needed repair under our house. They worked overtime to get the job done and tested their work several times to make sure all leaks were taken care of. I highly recommend Shafer Services!
Performed A/C check and maintenance. Abraham was very professional and did a great job. John also came to do our plumbing check and water heater flush. He was super nice and did a great job. We have used Shafer for home maintenance for about 12 years and very pleased with their service.
The serviceman, JP Beron, was very courteous and professional and took care of my stopped up drain line in short order. He had an assistant with him and I enjoyed visiting with them as they completed the job. I will definitely keep Shafer Services' number!
