Had some of the materials I needed.
I had Vinje's design my HVAC duct system for my two story, 2400 sqft home. They have some good units available but the upcharge is something each individual person needs to decide for themselves. The upcharge on goodman and rhudd 14 seer units were not worth it for me and their daikin unit would not work for the size of my property. Their calculations provided a final design but left much to be desired. I liked the pricing on their stock sheet metal items, dampers, wyes, ducts, boot boxes, but I opted to purchase flex ducts that are sold in even dimensions at Lowes. Their sheet metal custom work is expensive but definitely quality. Unfortunately I picked up half my order and realized the custom return duct didn't fit(cost me 280 dollars), they also charged me a custom transition charge(140 dollars) which I assumed would be part of the return ducting but the pricing was separate and I approved of it by reducing a few other items. Since the return duct is messed up, the transition is as well. I called about possible resolution possibilities and Vinje's is willing to provide a 50% discount. Unfortunately, I cannot trust them to complete it correctly again as the dimensions I provided seemed to be enough for them the first time, but if I am providing the dimensions again and it still doesn't work then it is on me. There were things that were missed by Vinje's via email the first time from my dimensions I provided or confused them. Overall, I do not recommend ordering custom sheet metal from them unless they can provide a better guarantee(no returns for custom sheet metal) or if you are just ordering a box. All their heat pumps are somewhat overpriced compared to online dealers, but that is because they are locally available to provide support so it makes sense. Use them for duct calculations designs but don't expect too much detail unless you ask all the questions. I will still utilize them in the future and have a lot of appreciation for these people, but there
Needed a custom chimney cap built, plus misc wood stove parts. The cap was delivered ahead of schedule, and was made to our specification - it fit perfectly. Will recommend them without reservations to my friends!
Vinje's is fantastic. Highly recommend. I ended up in a DIY situation with a heat pump missing from a prior install and had inherited nearly $700/mo winter electric bills. Not having cash for $14k replacement, with their help, I managed to get a full replacement with an updated new air handler & heat pump for about $6k (all in, new thermostat, refrigerant, etc). Literally the screw holes on the tin matched on the new unit (drop in replacement, zero tin work). I'm still very low on funds, but appreciate what Vinje's has done for me every damn day, and more importantly, my son and wife are comfortable, and money saved is better put towards his college fund. Because of good people like this, others end up stronger and healthier, the way it ought to be for everyone. Thank you Vinje & Sons. 🙏😎
fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly. very lucky to have a resource like the vinje crew in portland!
Really great service- highly recommend. They took the time to design custom ductwork for my DIY heat pump install. They also sell everything you need for a DIY ductless heat pump install.
Great prices, selection, and service. They have everything you need and more.
Great HVAC place for the DIY. Super helpful and had the part I needed on a Saturday. Will do business with them again.
Bought a furnace a few years ago. Today I bought A.C. (7/8/21). Manager, Craig, helped me both times. Everyone in the shop was and is super helpful. They walk you through every step of the way. You will forget about something inevitably. But don't worry they have your back like they did today. Best DIY guys around. Next time your ac or furnace goes out, don't call the repair people. Call Vinje, and let them help you fix it yourself. FYI, damn good prices as well. Home depot can't compare.
These guys are pros . This visit I only needed a sheet of 22 ga . They rolled it up so it would fit in my small truck . I have never left there without what I needed .
They have a lot of stuff if you're not a contractor
AC Compressor/Fan Dual Start Capacitor Failed during hot weather. Spent hours calling around town looking for one and nobody wanted to sell to someone that was not an HVAC Contractor. Kept asking who sold to non-HVAC Contractor and someone finally referred me to Vinje & Son. Called, a live person answered the phone (Craig), and they had exactly what I needed and were willing to put in on hold while I charged over there (pun intended). The new capacitor was slightly larger, so they even cut a sheet metal strap for fastening. Excellent customer service. Thank you as you made me look like a hero for getting the AC going again. Will definitely use again. Much appreciated!
Called, because my heater stopped working during the February cold snap. Craig very patiently and expertly helped me diagnose the problem.
They had the register box size I needed. Helpful and to the point. I am a homeowner and they had no problem with my inexperienced questions.
This is the best business around!!! Always friendly and helpful. They keep their word and provide professional input around HVAC needs. Knowledgeable, and technical support is outstanding. I called today and talked to Craig about a furnace issue , and he did a remarkable job. Heat now works inside, and it’s snowing outside!
This place is great! We had an unexpected need for some rigid ductwork and they had what we needed in stock at a good price. Friendly and helpful staff, would recommend.
Vinje & Son is awesome. I cant imagine where a person could go to find hard to find HVAC items without them.
Well, I came in with a simple request. I asked if they could make a workbench cover out of stainless steel, measuring 8' x 2' with a full length (1") lip in the front. They said they could. They cut it, bent it and put it out back for me to load. I drove back to NW Vancouver and placed it on my bench. They cut it crooked and not square. The finished top was 24" wide at one end and 22-1/2" on the other end. In addition, the narrower end was not square with the front lip. I called & they said they could make me a new one at no cost, but I would have to return the bad one. I did & we made the exchange. The thing that really irks me is that I offered them an extra $20 to make it while I waited, (the first time I was there). The offer was made so I wouldn't have to drive home, then back, then home again. In the end... that's exactly what I had to do, due to their sloppy work. No $20 refund was offered when I returned to pickup the second top.
We were looking to add AC to our house and going with Vinje & Son saved us half of what we would have normally paid for full service AC install. They're a DIY shop and they'll provide you plenty of information to get your system up and running but you will be doing a lot of the install work yourself. Final connections for the copper lines are done by a licensed tech and Vinje's will give you a referral. So long as you good with this arrangement there is a lot of money to be saved by the home owner for the same or better quality of equipment that you can get from another HVAC company. Happy customer, comfortable recommending them to others, will use them again.
I purchased 4 air scrubbers to get rid of the smoke in our houses after the fires. They worked wonders and Craig was a huge support. My son had already installed a scrubber in his house.
