They stand behind their work. We have been Intrepid customers for three now. Great customer service and they show up when they say they will. The annual service contract is a great deal — the techs are super thorough about maintenance and cleaning during the spring and fall tune ups.
I switched my 20yr Trane system to a Rheem system per the advice of the owner, Marty Jones, in 2016. Six years later, the Rheem model nos. RP1430AJINA stopped working due to the thermal expansion valve (TXV) wire becoming detached in the heat pump unit. Marty stated the Rheem system is still under warranty for parts, and I could call the Rheem manufacture for assistance. In summary, I was able to get the TXV wire repaired and settle a mutual agreement with Shumate HVAC company's owner, Mr. Marty Jones.
We own and operate Spenga North Raleigh which is a fitness studio in North Raleigh. The AC units were not working properly causing a lot of moisture in the studio. Shumate (Intrepid) came right out, identified the problem and had it fixed in just a couple of hours. The tech was so very informative, professional and friendly. Shumate (Intrepid) went above and beyond today. That doesn't happen very often. Thanks to all the employees at Shumate (Intrepid) for decreasing my stress and getting the units fixed.
I can’t recommend this company enough! My elderly parents had air conditioning trouble and they squeezed us in the same day even though they were very busy. Todd is the technician that came out and did an amazing job - very professional and thorough!

Shumate/Intrepid did a fantastic job for us. We called them out to take a look at our AC, which was not cooling well, and they gave us great advice. Basically saved us thousands of dollars. If you are looking for an HVAC company that will give you honest advice and look out for your best interest, Shumate/Intrepid is your choice. Highly recommended.

Very professional and knowledgeable. Marty was happy to answer every question we had, even the dumb ones. They had us on the schedule in less than a week, and the installation took less than a day to swap out our old system with a new unit. They even took care of our HVAC rebate for us. We are very happy with the results, and we would definitely recommend Shumate to others.

Great customer service, quick to respond and did a great job on getting us up and running in this heat. The service guys made sure to cover our carpet to make sure nothing happened when they were coming in and out. They also kept me updated with the work as it was going on if there was something they felt I needed to know. Would recommend
I was told I had a problem with my AC and I called shumate for a 2nd opinion. They could easily have seconded the 1st opinion and made a lot of money. But they didn't. They told the truth. I will NEVER go anywhere else!

I have used shumate before over the years...but this experience has left a terrible imprint with me. Our Technician Todd was very helpful and did all that he could. Long story short...my air wasnt getting cool. The tech came out unplugged my unit and recognized that the coils were frozen in the attic. He Left because their was nothing he could do with it frozen. We were charged $109 for that. He made an appointment for the am so it could be "properly" diagnosed. Which cost me another $75. All i needed was a new filter. Really?? 200 for a filter. And coils to manually thaw out overnight(a night with no air)!! When i called the owner to let him know my concerns...he could care less. He basically said its my decision if i took my business elsewhere and if his tech drives into my drive way and never gets out...there is still a $109 charge. This dude was rude and disrespectful. Ill take my chances with a a referral next time. Even if my equipment is under warranty...theres no savings. The parts arent that expensive...so im paying 3x the amount for the labor. Trust me...go elsewhere!! My technician tried to fight on my behalf...but it was out of his hands!! #unhappycustomer #rudeowner #moneyhungry
During a recent ice storm our HVAC system stopped working properly - we had heat in the house, but the outside compressor would not turn on. I called Shumate at 9:30 in the morning and they had a service technician at the house a little after noon. The tech was very knowledgeable and checked the entire system quickly, explaining everything as he went; he didn't try to sell me any services or parts that I didn't need. The repair required a part which had to be ordered, and the same tech returned at my convenience to install the part. The work was done quickly, and the quality was outstanding. I highly recommend Shumate, and will use them for all of my heating and air conditioning work in the future.
I would have given 4 stars, except that the service was scheduled for 10 am, and no one called, until after I called the office @ 10:45, to tell me that the tech had been delayed. The service tech arrived 4 hours later. He was competent and fixed my problem. The price for service would have been a bit above average without the $25.00 first time discount, but all in all worth it as long as they back up their work. If so, I'd be inclined to use Shumate again.
I recently had a new Goodman heat pump, air handler and all new ductwork installed in my home. I knew it wouldn't be cheap, but I am also in a high-end sales industry and I am a very savvy shopper so I did my research and shopped around. After checking around and getting quotes from 3 other companies, Shumate's price was not only fair, but they also gave me more information about my financing and rebate options. I appreciated that they helped me stick to my budget and didn't try to force me into a more expensive unit (like most of the other companies did). They were professional, honest and on time, clean and very courteous. As a single woman, I am very cautious when inviting strangers into my home. But Marty, and the crew that installed my new equipment made me feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend Shumate to anyone looking to make updates or repairs to their HVAC system. I couldn't be happier! UPDATE!!...Fast-forward 2 years later... I have been so pleased with the Goodman system, I kept postponing my recommended annual tuneup of the AC unit because it was running so beautifully! I knew I should have had them out to do a check up, but it kept getting pushed down on my list of things to do. Just last week I finally had them out to get everything cleaned and checked and they did such a fantastic job with the service, I could immediately tell a difference in the performance of the system. Everyone I have encountered from the company, from Leslie in the office to Barry our service technician has been a pleasure to do business with.Like I said 2 years ago, if you are looking to do business with a local company, Shumate is the most honest and reliable group of folks you could ask for! I would recommend them to anyone!
Shumate replaced the gas pack for our downstairs unit and the a/c for our upstairs unit. Each interaction we had with Shumate was positive, from scheduling the initial estimate to completion of the installation. During the estimate, Marty (the estimator) did not try to upsell anything that we did not need. For example, each of the other bids from Shumate's competitors included thermostats as part of a package deal. I'm perfectly happy with the programmable thermostats I currently have and didn't want to change them out. Shumate only replaced what wasn't working in order to minimize my costs. We have a toddler and an infant that were still sleeping when Shumate arrived in the morning to install our HVAC units. My wife requested that the technicians delay as much as possible the work that was required in the attic so that the children wouldn't be jarred awake with noise. The techs were courteous in responding that they would complete as much as possible outside the home before having to access the attic and did not wake the children at all. In addition, we have baby gates installed on our stairs to minimize the possibility of stair case accidents. The technicians always opened and closed the gates behind them during the frequent times they had to either climb or descend the stairs. While I assume this was an annoyance for them, they did not display any annoyance and remained courteous and professional at all times. We're very happy with the entire experience with Shumate and would highly recommend them without any reservation.
