Boris and his team installed a central air conditioning system in our 100+ year old condo. They were knowledgeable, professional, patient and always willing to answer questions. They cleaned up carefully after each day's work. It was a pleasure to have them working in our apartment!
I've had Boris help with a number of issues with our heating/cooling system over the years, and he has always been prompt and efficient, and gotten the job done for a reasonable price. A lot of what he's done is routine maintenance, but he also fixed issues with our exhaust and intake systems to stop them from freezing during the winter. We had dealt with this problem for years, and other HVAC specialists had failed to solve the problem, but Boris got it on the first try! In another instance, I had to reroute the condensation water from 3 furnaces through the inside of a 3-flat. Boris came over and assessed the situation, and actually recommended that I could save money and time if I hired a plumber to take care of the pipework, while he just took care of the stuff that related specifically to the furnaces. Best of all, he even recommended a plumber who did that part of the work for a great deal; we probably saved several hundred dollars thanks to Boris' honesty and know-how!

I have an older house from 1906 that we had mini splits installed on the first floor but wanted AC in the second floor and attic. They ran the ductwork on/in floor of the attic and through the ceiling of the second floor. I had a couple other quotes and the way they did the ductwork was better than all of the other quotes I had; it’s why I chose them. There price was also very competitive. They installed a Bosch high efficiency heat pump inverter. That’s how I found them, through the Bosch website for certified installers in my area. The system cools the attic and the 2nd floor; it cut my electric cooling costs about 25% over the 2-3 window units I used before. The project was on the timeline they laid out, took about 4 days start to finish. We had some hiccups after the install but they made good on the work they did and made sure the job was finished properly. Overall they did a great job, I will definitely use them again for my HVAC needs.
Next Step is courteous, knowledgeable, professional and trustworthy. We have used Boris and his team multiple times. The first time, they were able to troubleshoot our heating system after multiple other companies gave up and said we needed to install a new one. They saved us over $10k. They understand HVAC systems and are thorough and practical in their solutions. The second time, they installed a new AC unit. Boris explained benefits of each price point. We selected mid-tier which was installed within a few days. Highly recommended
Short review: I cannot recommend Boris and Next Step enough. They are professional, responsive, personable, flexible, knowledgable . . . basically any positive adjective you can ascribe to an HVAC company fits with these guys. They're just incredible and if you have HVAC issues or needs, call them and hire them asap. You will not regret it. Longer review with details: My wife and I recently purchased an older home in Riverside, IL which had a whole host of HVAC issues, primary among them: -The boiler in the house was 60+ years old and needed to be replaced. -There was incomplete heating upstairs. -No AC at all. We have three young children and were still living in Chicago, which made it difficult to schedule a walkthrough/estimate with most HVAC providers; not so with Next Step. Boris immediately responded and agreed to one of the limited availabilities we provided. He arrived promptly, did a thorough review of the house, explained how everything in our house was working or not working, and most importantly he made sure he understood all of our concerns completely (there were a lot of them). Within 2 days we had an estimate from him for adding Spacepak cooling throughout the whole house, installing a new boiler and removing the old one, and heating the entire upstairs. We were planning to move within a month, and he assured us he could get the work done within 10 days or less if we were able to let his team start in a week. While we were sold on Next Step, we still hadn't managed to get any additional estimates from other companies because they were not as responsive or available as Boris and Next Step. We told him we needed to hold off to get some more estimates, and he was completely understanding and encouraging of this, even though waiting for these estimates pushed us past his offered start time for the work. Ultimately, all other companies provided similar or more expensive quotes, and several could not do the variety of things Boris and Next Step could do
Installed central air and did a great job. Was very thoughtful throughout the process and cleaned up after each day to leave a tidy work sight. Has even come to check how things were working after the project was finished. Highly recommend!
Wouldn't recommend
We recently moved to Rogers Park and are lucky to have such company serving this and the surrounding areas. They have helped me install a water heater, HVAC/AC repair and periodic maintenance. Boris is extremely responsive and always reserves a day during the week for emergencies. In summary, they are very honest, responsive, professional and friendly. I highly recommend them--Last but not least, their fees are reasonable and fair!
Professional, polite and practical! They assessed my AC Unit was working to specifications and gave me a few things to look out for going forward. Excellent pricing compared to some of the 'big guys' in the space. I will ONLY use these guys for all HVAC going forward. A+++++
Excellent experience with Boris and his crew installing SpacePak in my 100+ year old home. From the beginning, they were very responsive and knowledgeable. Once selected, Boris was in constant communication with me about scheduling and what to expect. The work was done on time and at a competitive price. I also appreciated how much work the crew put into keeping the house clean throughout. After installation, Boris diagnosed a small issue that would not have manifested itself for at least a few years and spent some extra time here making sure it was addressed. Very impressive and highly recommended.
Next Step hvac is the best! Boris answered my texts/calls promptly, was honest, quickly fit me into his schedule, and immediately understood my home’s complicated hvac set up. I’ve used other companies before finding Next Step, so I’m able to compare, but now I am happy to say I’ve found the best in North Shore: 5 stars for Next Step.
Boris came in the middle of the night and fixed our heater in the freezing cold. It’s now working better than ever! We called many companies and he was the only prompt response we had. Additionally, he had great rates for emergency services!

Ivan and Boris at Next Step are the most honest and trustworthy heating and cooling guys I have ever hired. They have done wonderful work with both our A/C and heat systems.
Where others only wanted the easy parts of the job, Boris and Next Step wer happy to get creative and help us reduce the footprint of our prior boiler by moving and relocating pipes. Not only did he do what he said, he also removed other pipes and re-organized so the Boiler "looked Good" in our basement at no extra cost. They were on time, clean, quiet, and most importantly, they clearly enjoy what they do and take a sense of pride in what they deliver. We have already recommended Next Step to others, and recommend them to you. Thank you Next Step!

Ivan and his crew did a spectacular job with our hot water boiler and radiator system. This is no easy task. As an architect I work with a lot of HVAC contractors and Ivan is a step above.

We had an amazing experience! Boris and his team installed a new AC system for us. Our SpacePak and condenser needed to be replaced. I called after seeing excellent reviews on our Nextdoor site. Boris arrived the same day and we immediately were impressed. He is certified to install a number of different systems and knew exactly what would be best for our home. His quote was extremely fair and he rearranged his schedule to accommodate ours. His team is excellent and they worked beautifully together to get the install accomplished in a day. Boris and his team went above and beyond and did more than he actually quoted. I will never call anyone but Boris going forward. He is a gem. Period.
