I have hired American Energy several times: In emergency situations, repairs, freon recharge, trouble shooting the hubby's repair 🙂, and a complete replacement of the duct work in my crawl space. Each time they have been professional, courteous and fast. I highly recommend them.
Woke up freezing. Very responsive, fit us in within a few hours and resolved the problem quickly. Phone service was professional and efficient. Couldn't recommend them more!

Can't say enough good things about this company and it's owners, Michael and Kathleen. We originally asked Michael out for basic maintenance and help with some issues we were having in our new, old home. We received a reasonable quote and when Michael arrived to do the work, told us that upon further thought he had decided some of the proposed changes wouldn't be beneficial; definitely appreciated the honesty and savings! When the blower on our system decided to kick this summer, there was no question who to call. Michael came out as soon as possible and gave us what we feel was an honest opinion on the situation and several options for repair and replacement. We never felt pressured to make a decision one way or the other, and had many lengthy conversations with Michael and Kathleen, even after hours, about said options. They even brought us a portable A/C unit to use while we were taking time to make our decision - something we would never expect from a large company. Ultimately we decided to update our system and their team did a wonderful job; they were timely, respectful, friendly and clean. At this point we're dedicated customers. They're a true local company that really wants to help people and are delightful not only to work with but to talk to.
They did a great job replacing my AC for my upstairs unit. The process was super easy and Michael was very helpful from start to finish. Definitely recommend them!
Michael was knowledgeable, friendly, and fast. Fixed our three problems in good time. My 15 year old system will be good for some more work.
They bought out a local “mom and pop” company, Hilton HVAC, and returned my call and introduced themselves. I thought I’d give them a shot w/maintenance, and see how they handle something as simple as clearing out my drainage line. Told them not to proceed with anything without permission. Of course they did. I got a call where they claimed I missed “numerous calls” (I had one missed call after I looked back) so they “went ahead”. They charged around $120 just to clear the line, which was exactly $101 more than the last three times the company they acquired charged. This “flat rate” ripoff stuff may be normal with the bigger companies, but I don’t use them for a reason, and I’ll never use this company again.
Very professional, and prompt. Our AC unit is 13 years old, and I was expecting them to say it needed replacing right away. They repaired it and said this may buy you a couple of years before it needs replacing. Very pleased!

Thankful for American Energy and Heating being so responsive when my HVAC system was failing. I trust them because when I had issues with the system last year they suggested a low cost repair first before the more costly alternative of replacing my system. They could have made more money but instead did the right thing by attempting a low cost repair first. They were very helpful with selecting a new system. I got multiple quotes from other companies and American Heating and Energy was very competitive as far as their pricing and did a great job installing a high efficiency system in my home. The new system cools my home more quickly and runs far less than my older system. Thanks to American Heating and Energy for their professionalism and responsiveness!!!
After looking over the current 22 reviews (at this typing) for American Energy Heating & Air, it amazes me how a company that was receiving highly rated reviews can go from sugar to s#!t with my experience. This company was the pick of the litter, from our home warranty company. Initially, they were very responsive to set up the appointment. The tech came out and "diagnosed" the problem with our A/C unit. He advised me that he would have to contact the home warranty company to get authorization to order the part(s). This occurred on a Wednesday, the following Monday we began calling "Kathleen" and left her VM after VM, with no return call (at the typing of this review), to get a status. I reached back out to the home warranty company, who advised that they didn't see a diagnostic status on our work request and that should have been updated within 48 hours of the tech being onsite. The home warranty company began calling American Energy Heating & Air and they never received an answer. We finally had to escalate this issue and switch service providers, who resolved the problem. Upon resolution, the home warranty company reached out to me to close out the request and advised that they STILL had not heard from anyone with American Energy Heating & Air. Based on my experience, the 22 reviews I looked at are bogus.
Prompt and excellent service! I am pleased to support this family-owned and operated business in the Decatur area. In addition to being personable and professional, they DO NOT charge extra for week-end service! That is amazing! Thanks so much, Mike & Kathleen!
I decided to try American Energy due to the excellent reviews they have received on Nextdoor. I was very satisfied with my service, my technician, and the maintenance options they offer. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you give this company a try.
Just got a complete system. Shopped around first. You guys, this company gave me a great quote and replaced my system just 2 days later! And my oldest now thinks it’s ... wait for it ... too cold! Lolol I’d recommend these folks to anyone.
American Energy Heating & Air and I have been doing business for over 13 years. Kathleen, Mike and the team are always honest with the repairs that are needed. They are always very responsive in scheduling and getting repairs done. Mike has always been very helpful with repairing our old system, until it could be repaired no longer. He was very helpful in getting us the correct new unit for home at a reasonable price. His team was very efficient with the installation process and I look forward to American Energy doing the yearly maintenance on it. American Energy is the example of good business and many service companies could learn from them.
Wow finally a great company for our systems! We called Kathleen when the A/C went out in our guitar shop. They came right out and instead of hard selling us on a new system they gave us the facts and options. They got our shop cool and we will definitely use them to replace our old system when our budget is better. They are the most honest dependable companies I've ever dealt with! A++++++++++
Overall, I was very impressed with American Energy Heating and Air. As everyone knows, dealing with heating and a/c issues can be time critical. My mother lives with us and our upstairs was without air conditioning. That quickly became a serious situation as the heat up there became suffocating. American Energy came quickly, diagnosed the problem, and fixed us up in a jiffy. Fair price as well! This was our 3rd time using and we’ve always been super happy! Strongly recommend!!
Very pleased with the heater and air condition installation. I had a guy do a spring tune and he said the installation work was excellent.
