I was in need of a complete HVAC system for a condo that I purchased. It was a pretty straight forward installation and I had many options on whether to choose a gas powered system or an electric heat pump. Pulled out the rolodex and choose all the big players and scheduled appointments. If you know the process, you understand how the salesman show up and provide their pitch for what solution is the best. Each company offered variations on the best solution, and I was not sure who really had my best interest at heart. Then I ran across some reviews for Highwood Mechanical. The reviews were all excellent and centered around the company owner/salesman/installer/foreman/secretary; Ben. I say these titles in jest because Ben is totally engaged from the first phone call all the way until the last man completes the installation. Ben showed up for the initial consultation and I could tell he knew exactly what he was talking about and what I wanted (I had been through 5 other consultations, so I was pretty knowledgeable when he arrived). More importantly though, it was obvious to me that he was reliable, respectable and honest. When you are that way, you can tell when you meet a like-minded individual. I will wrap up the review by saying he wanted my business, and I wanted him to do the job. He gave me a price that proved he wanted the job and options to support any direction I wanted to go. He also gave solutions that the other guys didn’t even mention. He gave me a date (less than a week out) for installation and called when he said he would. He led his team out for installation and there were lots of workers (brother, nephews) who were clean, respectful, and knowledgeable. They completed the job quickly and I paid with a smile on my face because I received a fair price for a task that was very important to my well-being. We purchased a home in Hamden in August 2022 knowing the AC unit was 30 years old and totally dead. After a few weeks of using window units to get us through the end of the summer we committed to installing a new system for the following year. In March we met with 3 local HVAC companies and ultimately chose Highwood Mechanical for its pricing, professionalism, and faith that a 4.9 Google rating had to be worth something. We ended up having a heat pump system installed and are very happy with the results. Ben and his team went far beyond what we expected; timely communication, follow-up emails when we needed them, cleaning the work area when finished, clarifying the rebate process, to name a few qualities, were some of what we experienced with Highwood. These are the kind of people we want on our list of trusted local business professionals, especially when it comes to potentially expensive home repairs, maintenance, etc. Thank you all for treating us and our home with respect. Ben and his crew did a great job helping us find a new solution when our oil furnace broke. We’re so happy with our new heat pump system! Ben is really knowledgeable and communicative, the job was neat, and there were no surprises. If you want to ditch fossil fuels at your house, call this company! Ben, his brother and nephew just completed an oil furnace change out and installation of a heat pump for me and I'm very pleased with the results. From providing detailed options on replacing ancient oil furnace and central air unit to job completion Ben went above and beyond. He was patient and detailed when explaining all things HVAC, especially regarding options that would meet my needs. I went with the Bosch IDS Heat Pump and Regal Oil Furnace. Installation took a day a half. Ben and crew arrived on time and we're thorough, detailed, and efficient. They even installed and programmed a new thermostat and took the time afterwards to walk me through the new equipment and provided guidance for filters and recommend maintenance. If you're in the market for an HVAC upgrade of any kind, new install, etc I highly recommend contacting Highwood Mechanical.
We hired Highwood to replace our existing duct work and install some new vents / returns in our home. They have been working very well and a previously ice cold room is now a comfy warm space. Ben and his team were courteous, punctual, and offered thoughtful answers to our many questions about keeping our home warm. We spoke with several people regarding this duct work, and the Highwood Team was the most responsive and helpful. We are glad that we chose to work with them.
Ben and his crew installed a new single head heat pump minisplit for us. It is currently handling all of our heating and cooling needs. Quote process was seamless and Ben had some good ideas for us like switching from a wall mounted unit to a floor mounted one. Install day was a breeze and it only took a few hours. We also got a few other quotes and Highwood was competitive. Would recommend and utilize Highwood again.
Highwood Mechanical was very efficient and knowledgeable in their installation and recommendations. They were a very pleasant crew to work with and treated our basement space with care given the amount of demolition that had to occur. They were very patient in accommodating my requests and concerns.
I called for an emergency furnace repair, they were more than willing to take on a new client. They were very prompt (at the house within an hour or so), talked me through the repair and were very pleasant. Pricing was very fair for an emergency repair. Local guys that take pride in the work that they do.
They did a wonderful job removing my ancient furnace, and installing a new one. Work was done in a timely manner, reasonably priced and very professional.
I needed a boiler replacement in my hundred-year-old home, and Ben talked me through my options; answered all my questions; and communication throughout was great. Him and his team worked efficiently, and left no trace except for a beautifully installed new heating system. I'm a fan!

5/5, would recommend to anyone in the area. I used their services to receive a quote and discussed choices for heat and A/C installation as the system I had was broken and old. I talked with Ben and he was extremely knowledgeable and professional. I received a quote on the work within the day and when I accepted the terms he could fit me in that week. The furnace and A/C unit was completely replaced and finished within a day. I expect to use Highwood Mechanical for any HVAC service I would ever need.
Ben and his team were great from the start—kind, responsive, professional, trust-worthy. They replaced our furnace and installed an AC, and coordinated with an electrician to convert our house from 100 to 200 amp service. Made an intimidating process a pleasant one, and were able to get the work done before my wife had a baby. Highly recommend.

Ben and his team did a fantastic job installing mini splits in our home and a concealed air handler in our attic. While a little tough to pin down (part of that was on me) Ben assured me the job would be done “before we needed it” and sure enough, he came through on his word. The entire 4 man crew was punctual, courteous, accommodating of my dog hanging around, and the workmanship was outstanding. I don’t have much experience working with contractors but based on the limited experience I have I would absolutely recommend Ben and his team. Many thanks!

I highly recommend Ben Uscilla and his crew! I was calling every contractor in a bit of panic since my furnace stopped working and Ben was the only one who said we were his neighbors and that he would not let us go without heat. He pulled out all the stops to find us a new furnace that he personally installed for us within 5 hours!!! Highly professional, incredibly efficient and a very well run business.
