If your work requires Russ, go elsewhere. A year later and still trying to get him to install the whole house humidifier.
Try to avoid talking to the office manager… she’s not very kind.

This is an absolutely wonderful company to work with. I had an unexpected flood that happened to ruin my furnace. I called Russ and he was there within 2 hours. He also recommended a clean up service who also came right over. Dependable, affordable and just plain nice people to work with. What more could you ask for?

We have had excellent service done today at our residence after our furnace went out the day before Thanksgiving. We called and had Russ (owner) stop in that day to diagnose the situation and give us a price to replace our furnace. Today the day after the holiday his son and grandson were here first thing and installed our new system. Very nice family run business that we highly recommend.

Call Preece Heating & Cooling for any heating and cooling needs. These guys rock. Woke up this morning to my house being 55 degrees. Called them at 8:15 am and they left my house at 9:30 am with the funance back up and running at a very very reasonable price (for an emergency call on a Sunday).

- A great company to work with. Good crew. Good guys. Preece H&C installed duct work and a forced air HVAC system in our existing farm house (which previously had under-floor radiant heating, which did not work well at all - not installed by Preece). They completed the work in 4-5 working days! A few small/minor things were missed, but they promptly took care it. The cost of the project was reasonable (it was a big job). They know what they are doing.

Very professional representative. Fair and explained repair without trying funny business about replacing the entire heating unit. Please start with Preece. They are way better than the other guys.

Short Version: They lied about my a/c system being bad and needing to replace the entire thing.

Edit: 5 years later and my old system is still going strong with minimal usual maintenance.

Long Version:

My air conditioner was not working this summer. The outside unit was not turning on. During the previous winter I had had a problem with the heat, and a repairman from a different company came and installed a new thermostat. I was fairly certain he had installed it wrong and that was the reason my air conditioner wasn't working, because it was working fine the previous summer.

I called Preece Heating & Cooling because I didn't want the same dolt working on my system, and they came up first in an internet search. They were quick to send someone out. However, the quality of their service ended there.

The man did something to the unit outside to manually turn it on. It made a loud grating sound while running. He then spent twenty minutes telling me they hated to have to tell first time customers this, but that the unit was bad and needed replaced. He said it had no refrigerant and the bearings(?) inside the unit were shot. He said $2000 to replace the unit or $1100 to charge it and fix it, but that there was most likely a leak and it would need replaced anyways.

He then came into the basement to look at the heater, and without even taking off a panel told me the inside part of the a/c could have the leak and should be replaced as well, for another $600.

I naively agreed to have the system replaced, and he said their first available time would be the following Wednesday. He charged me $75 and left.

I assumed they would call to confirm the installation and tell me approximately what time they would be coming. Wednesday arrived with no contact from Preece and I went to work. I received a call soon after that they were at my house, and would someone be there for the installation? No, I was not going to sit around all day waiting without even knowing for sure that you were coming.

A friend at work, after hearing this story, gave me the number of another repairman to call. He came, fixed the wiring from the thermostat (which I suspected was the problem all along), and fired up the air conditioner.

Lo and behold, the system was fully charged, there was no leak, and the outside unit did not make any noise while running.

Had they called to confirm an installation time with me, Preece would have gotten away with scamming me out of $2600 to replace a perfectly good a/c system. As it is I am enraged that I paid $75 for them to come and lie to my face.

I have very mixed reviews with this company. Mike, the person who performed work at my home in January, was outstanding. He is knowledgeable, professional, straight-forward, fair, etc. Today I interacted with Russ on a new problem with my furnace (over the phone) and he was rude, had contradictory information than his colleague, and almost dared me to find another HVAC person to help me. Unbelievable - I will not use nor recommend this company again.
