Joe was great! Earlier this year, our heat went out and it was cold! Joe came right away, built a new starter and voila, the heat was on. Then, our a/c went out on a 90-degree day in late spring! In no time, Joe had a new condenser for us!! Thank you, Joe. You remain my hero!!

Joe Logan price gouged during a heat wave and charged me on average 48% more than the competition for an AC repair. He also intentionally denied me timely information about replacement cost instead of a temporary fix for an 18-year-old AC system, forcing me to make an uninformed decision on the spot on how to best proceed. The general rule of thumb in the HVAC industry for determining whether to repair or replace is multiply the repair cost by the age of the equipment and recommend replace if the value is more than 5000. I wasn’t given an estimate for the temporary fix which ended up being $429. Applying the industry rule, the recommendation should have been replacement for any repair over $277. Although Joe Logan shows up as a licensed HVAC contractor (27844) in the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board, the company associated with the license is Frog Pro Heating & Air LLC and not Joe Logan HVAC. Reviews for Frog Pro are unfavorable.

On June 15, my home climbed to 90 degrees. I realized there was ice on my AC pipe outside and called Joe Logan who sent Billy Parton on June 16. Bill determined that there was a leak and refrigerant levels were low, but he could not tell me how low, which should have been a red flag. He informed me that the R-22 refrigerant cost $200/lb and is considered “liquid gold.” With a leak that would be costly to find and the unknown variable of how much R-22 is required to get to normal levels due to the leak (apparently Bill should have been able to tell me how much R-22 would be required to top off the system based on his reading and equipment specs, which would have made it evident that the temporary fix was not worth it), I inquired about replacement cost. Bill said he could not give me an answer and called Joe. He then told me Joe will give me a call and stop by later to give me a quote and asked me if I wanted him to add the refrigerant. Without the vital information to make an informed decision and the sunk cost of the diagnostic fee, I told him to proceed thinking it would be more costly to have them return later or get another quote for R-22 elsewhere as I would have to pay another service fee if the replacement cost was unaffordable. All Joe did when he entered my home was take a measurement of the evaporator coil panel. Why was this something Bill couldn’t do and provide to Joe over the phone? Joe charged me $429, $89 for the diagnostic fee and $340 for 1.7 pounds of R-22. I later recalled that the AC was serviced when tenants occupied the property. In June 2018, the AC repair cost was $170 with R-22 at $80/lb. In May 2020, the AC repair cost was $165 with R-22 at $45/lb. I called a couple of AC companies to get quotes for diagnostic, labor and R-22; they are currently charging $75-$90 per pound for R-22. When I texted Joe the information about competitor R-22 pricing, his response was his price includes diagnosis and labor so he is in the same ballpark. However, with diagnostic, labor and materials (R-22), other companies are currently charging $263 to $322 for the same work; Joe charged 33%-63% more than the competition. An online search shows Ability Refrigerants sell R-22 for $40-$75 per pound depending on the tank size. Online research also indicates HVAC specialist can buy R-22 for a wholesale price of $20-$50 per pound.

In the midst of a heat wave, Joe Logan took advantage of somebody in distress and price gouged. He deliberately denied me timely information to make an informed decision about the best course of action. Unfortunately, BBB ratings and good reviews are not indicative of integrity.

I have known Joe more than twenty years and will vouch that he is a that he is a man of good character. He is a man of his word, does what he says, and lives an honorable life.

I've known Joe and much of his history in the HVAC industry. Not only was he raised in the business but to this day he eats, sleeps and breaths the industry. I doubt there is anyone in the Greater Miami Valley more knowledgeable than he when it comes to your heating and/or cooling needs. Not only will he give you a fair estimate, he will educate you about the system he recommends. It gives you the peace of mind you need when making that kind of major investment in your home or business. Watch out, however, as he may just become a friend in the process of helping you with your project.
