We talked with another contractor before talking to Shane and buying a new furnace and AC unit from Shane. The other contractor did an inspection and collected a lot of data, that was supposed to result in a computerized recommendation for what we needed in our house. The data was inconclusive in that it did not seem to fit the computer program. There was no computerized recommendation. That contractor then recommended a two-stage furnace and the same AC unit that Shane recommended. Shane does not stock or sell the two-stage furnace because he does not think they are necessary in our central NY climate. He also said, contrary to what the other contractor said, that the two-stage units are noisy compared to single stage. We did some on line research and found that a common complaint about the recommended two-stage furnace was that it was very loud; one person said it sounded like a jet engine. Shane had done his homework about our house on line from public sources. He was prepared to recommend the single stage furnace that he did suggest to us based on his research and experience. The other contractor could have done a second inspection after installation and we could have gotten a second rebate from NYSERDA. In either case we could get a rebate from National Grid. The bottom line was that our final cost with Shane was less than with the other contractor, even if we got the same, less expensive, single stage furnace from the other contractor. The second rebate sounded good, but high mark ups and installation costs by the other contractor more than offset the second rebate. The installation crew, led by Shane’s son, was excellent. They were neat and clean. They were not put off upon learning that we had discussed with Shane that the AC unit would be installed far away from our furnace, that a hole had to be cut in the ceiling, that they had to figure out from the outside where to drill the exit hole and that substantially more material would have to be run to the location that we wanted. The installation time was probably triple what it would have been for a location most convenient to them. The connecting piece from the furnace/AC unit to the duct work was cut on site and fits perfectly. Later we began to hear a popping sound every time the AC unit shut off. Someone came back and put a cleat on the cold air duct that solved the problem. The AC unit is powerful enough to suck the duct in when the AC unit runs, after which the duct popped back to its original position. There was no charge for the extra installation work or the return to attach the cleat. After installation I registered on line for the furnace warranty with Rheem. I could not get the AC unit registered. I called Gail, Shane’s wife. She took over. She correctly anticipated that someone else made a mistake in registering their AC unit, using our serial number instead of their own. Gail got our warranty certificate and mailed it to us. We are very pleased with Shane and Sons (and spouse!). We highly recommend them.

Shane and Sons are the best HVAC professionals I've ever dealt with, including both business and personal interactions.

It's not uncommon to see Shane himself come out for the calls! He's super friendly, professional and won't nickel and dime you.

If you have an HVAC need, I cannot recommend Shane and Sons enough. Highly recommended.

Shane is amazing. I asked to have an estimate done for a new furnace as the other company that came by to diagnose our broken furnace told me the part needed to repair the furnace would cost $300 and probably can't be ordered as the unit we have is very old. At this point it would probably make more sense to just get a new one. The other company told us a new furnace would be $4500 which I thought was very expensive so I decided to shop around. Not only did Shane show up after working a long day, he was able to fix our furnace when the other company said they were not able to do so. My family and I were without heat for several days at this point and Shane was a life saver. Always call Shane and sons first, you won't regret it.

Three years ago we moved into a house that had been empty for 6 years. The heater and central air were still working, so we decided to continue using them as long as possible. Finally the heater quit on us and I called Shane & Sons over. I was not surprised when they informed me that a new heater had to be installed. They offered me an acceptable option and a fair price. A week later they were back to do the installation. They arrived on time, were courteous and clean, and finished the job without any hassles or complications. Even though it is May, I am happy to have heat again. Thank you Shane & Sons!!!

Last week, our furnace was acting up. For a few days in a row, it just wasn't able to kick in and heat our home for the first half of the day. So I finally called Shane and Sons, who's services we've been using for the past few years. Gail was able to work us into their busy schedule, and Dave arrived within the hour. By the time he was done with his clean and check, we had heat again! My husband said he even checked our new thermostat. Their service in the past was great, but this time they were a blessing. Jeremy from Shane & Sons installed my new Rheem downdraft gas furnace yesterday and did an outstanding, professional job! The old unit that was removed had been installed by sloppy contractors and the difference with the new unit installation is amazing. Jeremy installed a wooden subfloor and covered it with galvanized steel and placed the furnace on it, installed a new furnace vent & filter enclosure, and the entire thing looks beautiful. I even took pictures of it, and if anyone had told me I'd be excited about a new furnace, I would have told them they were nuts, but this is such a change from that old furnace install, it's amazing! These guys are totally professional and you'd be hard pressed to find a better HVAC contractor. Shane the owner, is one the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he explains everything, there's no pressure and will take all the time you need. I'll recommend them to everyone!
