They are not upfront about pricing. Plan to spend roughly $150 per hour for service calls. Otherwise I'm sure they are fine. They are responsive if you have issues with your bill though
We have used E.J. White for decades but no more. My husband first noticed quality problems about five years ago. Then they installed the plumbing for a new basement bathroom and a new septic pit and replaced a malfunctioning shower button on our Delta faucet upstairs. We weren't happy because the poured cement was rough, unlike the rest of the basement floor, and they didn't shim the basement toilet (so you sit slanted on it). They also had changed the A/C drain so it went uphill--causing a mess. So, my husband had to redo it. In October 2022, the Delta faucet was leaking, so my husband changed the tub hardware to a new finish. The next day, my daughter took a shower. The Delta faucet still leaked and water began pouring down into the basement. I assumed my husband did something wrong, so I called E.J. White. They scheduled me about a week out. When my husband got home, he told me he hadn't finished putting the drain back together--and he fixed the water flowing into the basement. However, he could not figure out why the faucet was still leaking, and the drain was slow--so we kept the appointment. On Friday night (they were scheduled Monday morning), the septic ejector pump stopped working. Upon arrival Monday, the plumber asked me what was wrong, so I told him I first needed him to look at the septic pump, but I also explained about the slow drain and leaking faucet. I told him my husband fixed the leak into the basement. When he got to the septic pit, his first words were, "Who installed that?!?" When I told him his company had, he said, "Well, why did we do it wrong?" He then asked me what one of the pipes was for. I stated I did not know and repeated they installed it. I told him it should be under warranty. Later, he came upstairs and said the septic pump had gotten caught. He stated he turned the pump in the pit as best he could so it hopefully won't do that again. (Looking online, septic ejector pumps should last about 30 years and problems are usually due to "plumbers cutting corners" when they install them.) He glanced at the drain pipes and confirmed my husband fixed the leak. He then looked at the leaking Delta faucet. He took it apart and could not find anything wrong with it, except he said it needed a ring gasket. There was no ring gasket in the kit we used. He took a gasket from his truck, installed it and...it still leaked. He discovered it was the shower button leaking--the one E.J. White previously installed and one my husband didn't touch changing the faucet. He stated he had to order a new shower button and told me to make another appt. in a week. Our outdoor faucet broke, so I made the appt. for that, too. The next week he came with a trainee, whom he told to fix the outdoor faucet. The trainee couldn't figure it out. The plumber helped him then told me it needed a part he didn't have on his truck. He said I could reschedule or replace it all that day since he had a full kit but not the parts. He then changed out the shower button and began working on the drain by pouring an extra strong drain cleaner down it. He said the septic probably needed pumping. I told him we did it two years ago. He said to do it again. The septic pumpers said it wasn't close to full. The drain is still slow. E.J. White then billed us $800 to fix a septic pit that failed because they installed it wrong, fix a leaking shower button that they also had installed, to dump drain cleaner down my septic, install a gasket that was probably unnecessary, and use a full kit to make an outdoor faucet repair that only needed a few parts. Needless to say, when I got the bill, I was floored--especially after paying $200 on their advice to pump my septic tank. I didn't pay the bill immediately, hoping that they would either realize they made a mistake and reduce the bill or call me--something they have done before. Nope. They just sent me to collections. They are no longer the knowledgeable, friendly company they used to be.
Prompt, knowledgeable, professional and polite. I have lived in a historic house with plenty of challenges for more than 30 years. This company is my go-to for major complicated plumbing fixes, and they recently corrected a “simple” job that an independent contractor botched. EJ White is a bit pricier than independent handyman services, but it’s worth it to have the work done right the first time. They are working with me just now on a payment plan for a project they recently completed. Highly recommended.
Advantage plumbing stripped the heating element on my water heater and to replace my water heater and remove it was nearly $2000.00. Bought electric water heater at Menards and had EJ White install and remove the old water heater at 1/4 of the cost. Chase the installer was professional, did the job very fast with no mess. I would highly recommend EJ White to do your work. You will be very satisfied. Tim
Technician can out and didn't even look at the water heater on the 1st visit. My neighbor who originally installed the water heater tried to make the repairs and couldn't figure out what was wrong. My neighbor and the technician talked and the tech said it sounded like the thermostat was bad. The technician called the water heater company and was on the phone for over an hour. The technician finally got the part #'s and told me once I ordered the parts he would be back to install. Second trip the technician drained the water heater and installed the thermostat. The water heater still did not stay lit. The technician stated I needed a pilot assembly. Ordered the pilot assembly and was sent the wrong part so the 3rd trip was a waste. Ordered the correct pilot assembly and then contacted the technician and the office and was told someone would be out to install the pilot assembly. Left several messages with the technician and the office.and never heard back from EJ White. EJ white sent me a timely of $371 bill fir their services. Thanks to youtube my neighbor was relentless in getting the water heater repaired. Come to find out it was not the thermostat or pilot assembly but a piece that fell out inside the water heater that provide air to circulate so the flame could stay lit. I was out over $600 for parts, overnight shipping and the reapir fee. Total rip off!
Edward J White was fantastic to work with. Being a remote property manager I depend and trust on my local vendors for their opinion. They were able to repair an A/C unit and have it running within a day of it being out. Three other local HVAC groups wanted to install a new A/C and furnace system instead of inspect further than they wanted. Highly recommend Edward J. White HVAC and look forward to continue keeping them as my Niles, MI area contact.
After running continuously for over 100 hours during last week's record-breaking frigid weather, the circulator pump on our residential boiler malfunctioned leaving us without heat. Chris prioritized our service request and within hours HVAC Technician Steve had replaced the noisy, antiquated pump with a modern, quiet unit. Steve should be commended for his professionalism, neatness and courteous demeanor. He is the most qualified technician we have ever worked with during our 46 years of home ownership. We not only have a warm home again but also a warm feeling in our hearts about the excellent customer service your company provided. E.J. White has earned our trust and we will definitely be contacting you for all of our future plumbing and heating needs! Thank you!!
I was having a plumbing emergency and called this company. They did not have any plumbers available for an emergency call but gave me the number for Niezgodski Plumbing. Niezgodski was able to send someone out to fix the problem. Kudos to Edward White Inc for putting a person's needs first and giving me numbers to two other companies. They saved my day.
I had a small leak on one of my pipes and they were there the same morning I called and had it fixed within the hour. Parts and labor were $110 which I thought was very reasonable for a service call.
